Susan Rice, White House Domestic Policy Adviser:
“The President will sign an executive order directing the Department of Justice not to renew any contracts with private prison…
Private prisons profiteer off federal prisoners and are proven to be, or found to be by the Department of Justice inspector general, less safe for correctional officers and prisoners.
President Biden is committed to reducing mass incarceration, while making our communities safer and that starts with ending the federal government’s reliance on private prisons.”

Does retirement give them the spine they need to speak up? For the most part, it seems that it’s just the ones who have announced their retirement that dare to criticize the unethical and criminal actions of the party.

Republicans may face some new challenges winning back their Senate majority with another wave of retirements.

Pennsylvania and North Carolina are already up for grabs in 2022, when Republicans need only one seat to take back their majority, and Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) — probably the most vulnerable GOP senator up for re-election — hasn’t yet decided whether to seek a third term and Sen. Rob Portman (R-OH) bowed out this week, reported Politico.

…GOP is concerned that Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) might retire after seven terms or that Sen. Roy Blunt (R-MO) might also choose to leave …

Statement by President Joseph R. Biden, Jr. on International Holocaust Remembrance Day:
    (excerpt)
“The Holocaust was no accident of history.
It occurred because too many governments cold-bloodedly adopted and implemented hate-fueled laws, policies, and practices to vilify and dehumanize entire groups of people, and too many individuals stood by silently. Silence is complicity. As my late friend and Holocaust survivor Tom Lantos so frequently reminded us: “The veneer of civilization is paper thin. We are its guardians, and we can never rest.

When hatred goes unchecked, and when the checks and balances in government and society that protect fundamental freedoms are lost, violence and mass atrocities can result. The United States will continue to champion justice for Holocaust survivors and their heirs. We are committed to helping build a world in which the lessons of the Holocaust are taught and in which all human lives are valued.”

“It took under three weeks for the Republican Party to crawl back to Donald Trump after the Capitol attack”

After terrified lawmakers panicked and were rushed to safety due to armed and violent people rushing the Capitol, they decided they weren’t going to protest the 2020 election anymore…it took less than three weeks for Republicans to go crawling back to Trump when they voted that impeachment of Trump was unconstitutional.

Some Republican members are saying that the Senate should just “move on” from this insurrection. It has been less than three weeks, Homeland Security issuing a bulletin that anti-government terrorists are ready to strike again and one Trump supporter warning “something’s coming.” The GOP was once the party of “America” and “Security,” but after a violent attack on the U.S. Capitol, they’re urging the government to “move on.”

    CONGRESSMAN MALINOWSKI:
“False GOP Attack Ad With QAnon Messaging Against Malinowski Led To Death Threats”
Rep. Tom Malinowski (D-NJ) joins Lawrence O’Donnell to discuss the death threats he received from QAnon followers after the National Republican Congressional Committee pandered to the right-wing group. He also tells Lawrence that he is leading a censure resolution against Rep. Mo Brooks (R-AL) for his role in inciting the insurrection at the Capitol.”
