MADISON, Wis. (AP) — A priest who livestreamed exorcisms aimed at rooting out what he, former President Donald Trump and some Trump supporters have falsely claimed was widespread voting fraud in the presidential election has left a Roman Catholic diocese in Wisconsin.

The Diocese of Madison said it and the Rev. John Zuhlsdorf reached a mutual decision on his departure. Zuhlsdorf will relocate from the diocese ”to pursue other opportunities,” the diocese said in a statement earlier this month.

“The Bishop of Madison is grateful to the Reverend Zuhlsdorf for his faithful support of the diocese’s seminarians and priests, thanks him for his many years of steadfast ministry serving the diocese, and wishes him the best in his future endeavors,” the statement said.

Zuhlsdorf did not immediately respond to a phone message and email Tuesday seeking comment.

Trump unleashed a mob to overturn a presidential election and install a russian style authoritarian.
imo, the America republicans have in mind is not equal rights, woman’s rights, it is not the 1950s but the 1850s. Whether the rank and file republicans are conscious of it or not, they are for the Confederacy not the 21st century. They want a 19th century where people of color know their place, women know their place, and white men have all the advantage = Lynch and assassinate who you want, and a truckload of russian authoritarianism to keep it rolling.

Article II, Section II of the U.S. Constitution, which allows for the “removal of office and disqualification to hold and enjoy any office honor.”

Paul tried to claim that the trial is unconstitutional because Trump is no longer in office. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) responded by pointing to Article II, Section II of the U.S. Constitution, which allows for the “removal of office and disqualification to hold and enjoy any office honor.”

“If the framers intended impeachment to merely be a vehicle to remove sitting officials from their office they would not have included that additional provision, disqualification from future office,” he said.

Jaime Harrison, new Democratic National Committee Chair,
    speaks with Maddow:
“Well, Rachel, you know President Biden’s mission is to unite this country
and to enact policy to really help address the issues that people are dealing with on a day to day basis. My job as his Chairman of the Democratic Party is to make sure that we take his successes, the promises that he has made. That we make sure that the folks down in small towns, in the cities, on dirt roads, understand those are promises that are kept. It is also my mission to make sure that Democrats build back better. And we have a strengthened party that in all 50 states in our territories and that we can give him more help in terms of the House and the Senate, in governors’ mansions and state legislatures across the country. And so I’m looking toward to doing that. And we’re already getting to work. I had calls into Ohio today and to Arkansas…Sarah Huckabee Sanders said that she’s running for governor. You talk about Republicans in disarray and a dumpster fire. That is just one hot mess. And we aren’t going to allow that to happen. We’re going to fight everywhere Rachel.
And I’m excited about that prospect.”

    • January 27, 2021 at 1:39 pm

      Maddow:
“One of the reasons I wanted to talk to you Jaime right now, is because I feel like there’s an imbalance in the national conversation because of the way President Trump’s term ended. Because of the attack on the U.S. government mounted by his supporters. I feel like the whole country is really convulsed with thinking about trumpism as a movement, thinking about Trump’s supporters and whether they fit into the Republican party. And the Republican Party is obviously having some very weird discussions and decisions about how they want to court even the most extreme supporters of the (ex) president. And so we think about the relationship between the politicians and the Republican Party and the movement of people that supports them. Almost, I think, compulsively now as a country. Because we’ve seen the danger that they may present when led in ways that the former president has led them.
On the other side of things, we very, very rarely talk about people who voted for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, people who voted for a democratic controlled Senate, people who voted for democratic controlled House. Again as a movement, as a group of people who need to be courted, who are potentially a major force in politics depending on how they are led and how they want to channel their energies. And that ultimately may determine the success of whether President Biden can get done what he wants. And later, Schumer can get done what he wants, and Speaker Pelosi can get done what they want. I feel like the Democratic Party is millions of people in the country, not just the people in Washington.
But we don’t talk about them that much. We don’t talk about them that way very much.”

    • January 27, 2021 at 1:45 pm

      Harrison:
“Well and we have to start talking about them in that way Rachel, ultimately a lot.
You’ve got a lot of folks in this country who just want to be seen, who want to be heard, and they want to be valued. They want a Government that’s going to work for them. And what I’m going to encourage folks to do, look past the D and look past the R and just ask the question:
      Who is fighting for me?
      Who’s fighting fo my family?
      Who’s fighting for my community?
And right now, you don’t see that from the others side of the aisle. There too busy fighting amongst themselves. And that’s the big problem right now. Joe Biden understands that we’re facing 4 big disasters right now in this country. Covid which many of us have been impacted by. The economy is cratering. So many folks are wondering how they’re going to make ends meet, how to put food on the table, whether or not they have a roof over their heads, the climate change that is bearing down on this country, and the racial inequities and injustices that have plagued this nation from its inception.

Those are the things that Joe Biden has said ’You know what, I’m going to move on them fully on behalf of the American people, because those are promises that are made. And it’s important for us to get and galvanize these people to understand that they have power to really move this country forward. And those folks in Washington, D.C who don’t want to do that, the Kevin McCarthys of the world who are blaming the insurrection and sedition of that mob on the American people. Those people need to be replaced.

And Rachel, I see it as my job to help motivate and move that ball forward, because there’s no place where people like Rand Paul who criticized Joe Biden for going after white supremacy (have) a place in this country right now. So people who want to be a part of this effort to Build Back Better, and to have a 50 state strategy, go to Democrats that will be a part of this army that we are building in order to really take our country back.”

U.S. government issues rare warning to Americans about potential violence by domestic extremists agitated by Biden’s election

The Department of Homeland Security issued a warning Wednesday to alert the public about a growing risk of attacks by “ideologically-motivated violent extremists” agitated about President Biden’s inauguration and “perceived grievances fueled by false narratives.”

DHS periodically issues such advisories through its National Terrorism Advisory System, but the warnings have typically been generated by elevated concerns about attacks by foreign governments or radical groups, not domestic extremists.
