I was really surprised when I first heard or read about it. That non Americans being referred to as aliens.
Trust me, when you’re used to not being seen as human, this kinda thing doesn’t surprise you at all.
When we first lived in Dallas and had to do our taxes, we had to fill out a legal alien tax form; when we got our green card, it was an alien registration card. I was appalled to be considered a legal alien and I’m a white immigrant. It makes you feel “other” in a way that nothing can cover. You never feel that you belong no matter how hard you work, or how good you are at your job. I am glad President Biden is doing this. Words matter.
