Former first lady Michelle Obama hugs Amanda Gorman, who made history today as the youngest poet in recent history to read at a presidential inauguration: https://t.co/2pnC6CISOppic.twitter.com/GUr5LUkRnm
My Literature teacher’s heart was filled with joy watching and listening to her. Almost makes me wish that i was back in the classroom to discuss and analyze the poem with my students as I did with the other Inaugural poems. So many of the commentators and guests on the n shows were in awe of her and were touched as so many of us were.
Hi lm! She was so impressive. What an inspiration she’ll be to young people. You should write your commentary and publish it on medium.com. I’d love to read it.
On this historic day, I’m wearing Congresswoman Shirley Chisholm’s pearls, given to me by her goddaughter, who said that her godmother “would not want it any other way.”
From the Pledge of Allegiance being signed & spoken simultaneously to the presence of the powerful Amanda Gorman to the President himself, both people with speech disabilities, disability was represented as a part of American culture & politics during #InaugurationDay Thread 1/7 pic.twitter.com/ItP2eKNYCS
On call w/ SC reporters, @WhipClyburn says George W. Bush told him at the inauguration ceremony that he's "the savior" because they wouldn't be having a transfer of power today if Dems hadn't nominated Biden following his endorsement. #scpol
Such a cool message! Teachers deserve way more shine than they get. This First Lady will be such an enormous boost to educators across the country.
Unlike every other first lady in American history, Jill Biden has said she will keep her full-time job. “I’m going to continue to teach,” she said in an interview in August. “It’s important — I want people to value teachers.” https://t.co/VWXsCTbubt

“We will raise this wounded world into a wondrous one …There is always light, if only we’re brave enough to see it. If only we’re brave enough to be it.”
So why are you on @msnbc calling the @POTUS "Joe" and @VP "Kamala?" They are no longer candidates, nor Senate peers. Please give them the R👏🏾E👏🏾S👏🏾P👏🏾E👏🏾C👏🏾T👏🏾 of their offices. Thank you! #RespectOurPOTUSandVP

Today my parents got the first dose of the #COVID19 vaccine and President Biden & Vice President Harris took office. It has been over 4 years since I’ve felt hope like this. Today is just the beginning. #InaugurationDay
This reminds us that there has been real progress. A good thing to remember after the horror of the past few years and the first week of this new year.
Ronald Klain, Biden Chief of Staff:
“Just remember: there was nothing “inevitable” about this day —
not the election result, the successful transfer of power, the bold actions coming on day one.”
—President Biden beginning to sign executive actions (apparently 15 today).
I see some people on Twitter are thanking me for helping guide them through the last 4 years. I am humbled and deeply appreciative. I also don’t plan on going anywhere quite yet. 😀 In fact, I have what I hope will be an exciting announcement on a new initiative coming soon.
C-SPAN is rerunning the Inauguration Ceremony, which is great, because with no commentators, you can actually hear the music and hear the announcement of people’s names as they arrive.
I watched most of it on YouTube with the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies. It was interspersed with videos talking about the history of various aspects of the inauguration and the origin of some of the traditions.
President Biden:
“Recent weeks and months have taught us a painful lesson. There is truth and there are lies.
Lies told for power and for profit. And each of us has a duty and a responsibility as citizens as Americans and especially as leaders. Leaders who are pledged to honour our Constitution to protect our nation. To defend the truth and defeat the lies.”
Wallace and others discussed the Republicans who went along with the Big Lie in the House and Senate.
= zero evidence of fraud. Hawley, Cruz et al. must be held accountable for the gruesome deaths and destruction they manufactured. MassacreMitch said the lies were told were “provoked”.
(Did he mean to say incited?)
—Um McCarthy’s creepy play acting today after all the lies, and his congratulatory tweeting to trump.
I hope they release a detailed panoramic photo of everyone on the dais like they did for President Obama’s first inaug. Wish I could remember what news organization released that.
Congratulations to @JoeBiden on being sworn in as President of the United States and to @KamalaHarris on her historic inauguration. America’s leadership is vital on the issues that matter to us all, from climate change to COVID, and I look forward to working with President Biden.
To @JoeBiden and @KamalaHarris. Best wishes on this most significant day for the American people! We are together. We will be stronger to face the challenges of our time. Stronger to build our future. Stronger to protect our planet. Welcome back to the Paris Agreement!
I feel a certain numbness. From an intellectual standpoint , I know that our chains have been broken, the cage doors have swung open and the sun is shining, but I can barely believe it. We suffered so much for so long and now we have a chance. Will take awhile to deal with the PTSD, but we will all get better. The challenges and perils we still face don’t scare me because we have people in place who will do their best to help us. We will keep on doing our parts as well and maybe, just maybe, this time will be better and more sustainable.

Biden is demanding that National Labor Relations Board general counsel Peter Robb resign tonight or else he’ll be fired, according to Bloomberg. This is a big deal because Robb has been devastatingly anti-labor to the point of being corrupt, and his ouster is a clear sign that the NLRB will now shift to a pro-labor stance.
It feels good! I’m feeling pretty good too, Mr. President!

About our new president:
John Heilemann: “Not a pathological liar” and “Like a war time president.”
Heilemann found the attempted coup on January 6 more disturbing then 911 – both were acts of terror – but this was from the inside “from our countryman”.
Joe swearing in a lot of appointees in virtual ceremony stressing respect and dignity and what he expects.
He spent some time discussing systemic racism. Sums America up in one word: “possibilities”.
….That oath: “from all enemies foreign and domestic”.
Joe Biden: "If you're ever working with me and I hear you treated another colleague with disrespect, talk down to someone, I promise I will fire you on the spot. On the spot. No ifs, ands, or buts. Everybody, everybody is entitled to be treated with decency and dignity."
.@SpeakPatrice: Both images feature a Black woman who has successfully scaled seemingly insurmountable barriers to become a “first." But only one reflects the magnitude of this moment.https://t.co/dpVObeC8fY
Another milestone: the first member of the Cabinet confirmed — Avril Haines, who will be the first ever woman to serve as @ODNIgov. Strong bipartisan vote!
Such a treat! Per WH Press Briefing by Jen Psaki, Incredible rollout of work done today.
—great to hear Biden Admin. is addressing the boundaries of national monuments, eg. Bears Ears (that Doom hacked up to mine uranium).
–Yay cutting funding cut for border wall…It is so hurting people, the ecosystem, animal migration. (any removal?)
Today is too good to be marred with negative nonsense. Not today PLEASE.
Thank you Chris Wallace, enough said.
Yep. He let her know!
What an incredibly great day! Thank you Nerdy!

Just me saying! I fell in love w/ that little boo being held by Hunter. I think he’s Pres Biden’s grandchild? Tot was so well behaved. 😘💞

I am happy that he has started cleaning house and getting rid of all of these corrupt cronies of Trump!!!!!

You did not.
