    Good Morning, TODers!!! Thanks, Nerdy!

    6 MORE DAYS!!!

  2. January 14, 2021 at 10:59 am

House Republicans defended President Donald Trump from impeachment by insisting that he never encouraged his supporters to violently storm the U.S. Capitol, but court documents show those insurrectionists believed they were carrying out his orders.

  3. January 14, 2021 at 11:04 am

Congrats, swbluega! Seeing soldiers sleeping on the floor ll over the halls of Congress gives the US a very banana republic vibe. I’m glad they’re on duty but outraged at the need for it. Any members of Congress who gave recon tours to the seditionists must be investigated, charged, and expelled if found to aid and abet the coup.

Congressman Hakeem Jeffries to Joy Reid:
The second impeachment of President Trump is the “most bipartisan impeachment in U.S. history”
and lays the foundation for a bipartisan conviction in the Senate.

This shows how weak, white men are. Was Dr. King and John Lewis afraid when the marched across the bridge? Yes, but they did it anyway.
Black men and women are so much stronger than white people in every way. And it is becoming blatantly clear.

Impossible to keep up, horrific news every day, candle going all the time.. stay safe everyone.

Totally off topic, with apologies, but is anyone else here still waiting for the $600 check/deposit to arrive? I know so many who have received theirs, I’m beginning to wonder if mine has somehow gone astray, misdelivered, and/or used as For Deposit Only, by some desperate soul. I sure hoped it would reach me..

    Big hugs all around.

“Unusual Tours In Capitol Ahead Of Trump Mob Attack Prompts Investigation”
“Rep. Mikie Sherrill talks with Rachel Maddow about the investigation she and thirty other members of Congress have requested into an unusual number of tour groups being shown around the Capitol the day before Donald Trump supporters would rampage through the building, some with an apparently uncanny familiarity with the layout.”

They should change the rules to require that anyone entering the Capitol must get permission to do so after a background check.

    Speaker Pelosi Statement :
“Rule Change Mandating Fines for Refusing to Follow New Chamber Security Screening Protocols”

“On behalf of the House, I express my deepest gratitude to the U.S. Capitol Police for the valor that they showed during the deadly insurrection on the Capitol, as they protected the lives of the staff and the Congress.

“Sadly, just days later, many House Republicans have disrespected our heroes by verbally abusing them and refusing to adhere to basic precautions keeping members of our Congressional community, including the Capitol Police, safe. The House will soon move forward with a rule change imposing fines on those who refuse to abide by these protections. The fine for the first offense will be $5,000 and $10,000 for the second offense.
The fines will be deducted directly from Members’ salaries by the Chief Administrative Officer.

“It is tragic that this step is necessary, but the Chamber of the People’s House must and will be safe.”
    (speaker.gov)

With all the videos — many posted by the insurrectionists — and the first hand accounts, the Senate would be hard pressed not to convict tRump.

So of course McConnell wants to pass the buck.

I don’t mind either although I’m hearing rumblings of 100 days. I just don’t want the intensity to die down, especially for Republicans who might be considering conviction.

    “American Abyss”:
“Fascism Historian Tim Snyder on Trump’s Coup Attempt, Impeachment & What’s Next”
“As the House votes to impeach President Trump, the FBI warns there could be a repeat of the violent insurrection he encouraged on January 6, with Trump loyalists planning to hold armed protests nationwide ahead of Joe Biden’s inauguration. We speak with Timothy Snyder, a historian of fascism, who says the riot at the U.S. Capitol was “completely and utterly predictable” given President Trump’s record of stoking extremism and undermining democratic institutions. “The American republic is hanging by a thread because the president of the United States has sought to use violence to stay in power and essentially to overthrow our constitutional system,” says Snyder.”
(Snyder follows after brief news intro.)

You see a face in the news and shake off “he looks familiar.” Then the arrest is made and he’s from your area. So now the question is where do I know the face from? The grocery store? Dollar Tree? Was he one of the rabid counterprotesters at one of the BLM marches that I participated in? From where do I know the face?

    President-elect Joe Biden’s statement:
Wednesday after the House of Representatives voted to impeach President Donald Trump following the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol:

“Last week, we saw an unprecedented assault on our democracy. It was unlike anything we have witnessed in the 244-year history of our nation.

A violent attack on the United States Capitol itself. On the people’s representatives. On police officers who every day risk their lives to protect them. And on fellow citizens who serve as public servants in that Citadel of Liberty.

Windows and doors were destroyed. Offices ransacked. A Capitol Hill police officer was murdered. Another lost his life a few days later. Four other people died in the senseless mayhem of that day.

This criminal attack was planned and coordinated. It was carried out by political extremists and domestic terrorists, who were incited to this violence by President Trump.

It was an armed insurrection against the United States of America.
And those responsible must be held accountable.

Today, the members of the House of Representatives exercised the power granted to them under our Constitution and voted to impeach and hold the president accountable. It was a bipartisan vote cast by members who followed the Constitution and their conscience. The process continues to the Senate.

This nation also remains in the grip of a deadly virus and a reeling economy.
I hope that the Senate leadership will find a way to deal with their Constitutional responsibilities on impeachment while also working on the other urgent business of this nation.

From confirmations to key posts such as Secretaries for Homeland Security, State, Defense, Treasury, and Director of National Intelligence, to getting our vaccine program on track, and to getting our economy going again. Too many of our fellow Americans have suffered for too long over the past year to delay this urgent work.

I have often said that there is nothing we can’t do, if we do it together.
And it has never been more critical for us to stand together as a nation than right now.

So we must remember who we are as Americans and what we stand for and believe.
It’s time for us to be what at our best we have always been.
    The United States of America.”

    How sick is it:
“Democratic Reps. Bonnie Watson Coleman, Pramila Jayapal, and Brad Schneider have announced they tested positive for COVID-19, adding that they believed they were exposed to the virus while in protective isolation during the attack on the Capitol, where several of their Republican colleagues refused to wear masks.”
“While isolated in a room, video footage shows that at least six Republican members of Congress refused to accept face masks.”
—Multiply this by n+1 across the country….trump revenge on America (and his parents) accomplished.

  26. January 14, 2021 at 12:20 pm

“House lawmakers who don’t wear masks on the House floor will now face a $500 fine on their first offense and a $2,500 fine on their second.” (Forbes)

As second passes, Trump becomes ever more acutely aware of all he will lose at noon EST 20 Jan 2021.

He knows he will lose everything that matters to him – power, money, zero constraints.

He will NOT exit willingly; peacefully.

And, it’s not as if we haven’t been warned of the consequences of not holding him accountable – long ago.

After numerous attorneys have declined to represent President Trump in his upcoming impeachment trial — some because they believe his actions are indefensible — the president may have to settle for Republican Rep. Jim Jordan, Bloomberg reports.

I just hope schumer is as ruthless and cunning as moscow mitch was in passing the dems agenda and fucksticks like mancin don’t pull their usual stunts. Since the senate rules are formed at the beginning of the new session, he should make new rules the ensures everything from all executive and judicial appointments to bills shall pass only a simple majority, senators cannot ‘put a hold’ on anything, filibuster is abolished and all house bills are taken up for hearing and vote.
