The terrorists had insider help. How did they know where t find Pelosi’s office? Why was hers trashed and not Mitch’s? SPLC warned over a decade ago about white supremacists joining all branches of law enforcement.

      • January 7, 2021 at 3:35 pm

If I’m correct, they did not go to the Senate side of the Capitol. They focused on the House side. But that makes me wonder if the offices of any of the Republican House members were breeched.

Democratic leaders are calling for the 25th Amendment.

    SPEAKER PELOSI
    speaking now:

“Yesterday the President of the United States incited an armed insurrection against America.

The gleeful desecration of the US Capitol which is the temple of our American democracy and the violence…in Congress are horrors that will forever stain our nation’s history.

Instigated by the President of the United States…the President has committed an unspeakable assault on our nation and our people.

I join the Senate Democratic Leader in calling on the Vice President to remove this President
by immediately invoking the 25th Amendment.

If the Vice President and Cabinet do not act, Congress may be prepared to move forward with Impeachment.
That is the overwhelming sentiment of my caucus.”

    • January 7, 2021 at 2:49 pm

I hope the Democratic leadership sees this as a “time is of the essence” situation. If the 25th Amendment isn’t invoked TODAY, then Congress should IMMEDIATELY move forward with Impeachment proceedings.

      • January 7, 2021 at 3:00 pm

Speaker Pelosi: “He must be contained.”
“This man is deadly…a very dangerous man…people’s lives are at stake as well as our democracy.”
“We want every day at the Capitol to be a national security event.”

      President Elect Biden:

“Yesterday…an unprecedented assault on our democracy.
An assault literally on the Citadel of Liberty, the United States Capitol itself.
An assault on the rule of law.
An assault on the most sacred of American undertakings:
Ratifying the will of the people, choosing the leadership of the Government.
All of us here grieve the loss of life, grieve the desecration of the People’s House.
What we witnessed yesterday was not dissent.
      It was not disorder.
      It was not protest…
They weren’t protestors. Don’t dare call them protestors!
      They were a riotous mob.
      Insurrectionists. Domestic terrorists.
It’s that basic, it’s that simple.

I wish we could say we couldn’t see it coming.”

President Elect Biden announcing key members of his Justice Team:

“So as we stand here today we do so in the wake of yesterday’s events, events that could not more have vividly demonstrated some of the most important work we have to do in this nation: Committing ourselves to the rule of law in this nation, invigorating our domestic and democratic institutions, carrying out equal justice under the law in America. There is no more important place for us to do this work than the Department of Justice, which has been so politicized.

There’s no more important people to carry out this work than the people I am announcing today.
More than anything we need to restore the honor, the integrity, independence, of the Department of Justice in this nation that has been so BADLY damaged. So many former leaders of that Department in both parties have so testified and stated that.

I want to be clear to those who lead this Department who you will serve. You won’t work for me.
You are not the President or the Vice President’s lawyer. Your loyalty is not to me.
It’s to the Law, the Constitution, the People of this nation.
    To guarantee justice.”

If the 25th is invoked, can he then use his lack of mental stability as an excuse in future charges?

  43. January 7, 2021 at 5:23 pm

President Donald Trump’s allies in the business have world started to distance themselves from him after the deadly riot on Capitol Hill.

The pullback casts doubt on whether these business leaders will back him in the future – including whether he runs for president again in 2024. “He’s done,” one of Trump’s top bundlers said.

Some big money Trump donors, including Sheldon Adelson and Richard Uihlein, either declined to comment or didn’t respond to requests for comment.

Don’t Let Them Pretend This Didn’t Happen

The violence at the Capitol was incited, encouraged, and condoned by the president of the United States. Don’t forget it.

Remember what yesterday’s attempted coup at the U.S. Capitol was like. Very soon, someone might try to convince you that it was different. Maybe someone already has.

This has been a leitmotif of the Trump administration: Donald Trump does something outrageous and inappropriate, maybe even illegal. Immediately, there are horrified reactions from across the political spectrum, but pretty quickly, the anger fades. Republican officials test the political winds and decide to keep their heads down. Maybe they even say that what Trump did was just fine. Democratic officials rage but shrug and say there’s just not much they can do.

Don’t let the events of January 6 get memory-holed or excused in the same way. The health of the republic depends both on what swift consequences come—for Trump and for others—and also on how people remember the participants’ actions later on.

A lawyer who had been representing President Trump’s campaign in Pennsylvania has asked a judge to be allowed to withdraw from the case, saying that his services were used “to perpetuate a crime.”

Jerome M. Marcus, a lawyer based in Merion Station, Pa., added: “The client insists upon taking action that the lawyer considers repugnant and with which the lawyer had a fundamental disagreement.”
