Dudette, what is the general feeling in your area about Andrew Yang’s insertion of himself in the GA runoff?
It seems to me that he is trying to hijack the process. Already tired of seeing his face on TV. Looks like he and others are trying to erase Black women’s role /accomplishments in turning GA blue. I do know that Asian Americans upped their game in the election, but they did it without outsiders.

        November 30, 2020 at 1:31 pm

I dunno about general feeling, but I certainly find it annoying. Local leaders (including Stacey Abrams) very specifically laid out how outsiders could help and instead, as you said, he chose to hijack the process and insert himself. That photo op of him and his family ringing a voter’s door bell the other day was total bullshit.

I thought so. I too, saw that Stacey had told others not to come and as usual, you have those like Yang making it all about him. Thanks for your reply.

… including my own dear grandfather, born in 1885 and already working in the coal mines of Pennsylvania at age 11 to “help support the family.” He was a proud member of United Mine Workers of America, which brought in sweeping changes to the work and personal lives of many and their families. Neither of his two sons had to work in the coal mines, but both went on to work in careers where they were also union members, reaping the occupational benefits of the 20th century. My grandfather suffered physical ailments due to his mining career, but I got to know and love him for my first 10 years – and still miss him. Go, Unions!

in northwest North Dakota. She is the President of Nueta Hidatsa Sahnish College, the Tribally chartered college of the Three Affiliated Tribes. Twyla’s work touches a broad swath of her home reservation, and serves a number of stakeholders, including students, Tribal members, community members, and the state and region. Focusing energy on keeping her team members healthy and high functioning in a high-stress work environment is key in meeting these demands, and can be difficult, given that the campus is located in a rural, remote area with few services supporting workplace wellness. HUNGER.
Hayes: “It Is Absolutely Dire Out There Right Now.”
    Jeff Stein, WaPo, to Hayes.
“Before the pandemic in the fall of 2019 about 4% of Americans reported going hungry…now you are looking at closer to 12%. Basically tripling. That’s a little abstract though. Another way of putting it is about 8 million Americans reporting going hungry before the pandemic, and now we’re looking at 26 million Americans reporting going hungry. And of course this is a very big country right, and there are very wealthy parts of it that have been more spared from the pandemic than others, and you’re seeing much higher numbers than that in some parts of the country. In Houston for instance, which has been dealing with an oil shock in addition to a very severe Covid outbreak, 30% of families are struggling to get enough to eat. 30% in a major American city! It’s a crisis of unbelievable proportions. And perhaps even scarier still, we’re really only at the beginnings of the winter. We haven’t even hit winter, and if the Covid crisis intensifies and the number of cases continues to increase, we are going to see around at the same time a number of economic relief programs authorized by Congress that were only set to go to the end of the year – those are going to expire – benefits for the jobless, benefits for homeowners, benefits for renters, benefits for student borrowers, all of that is going to go away…
so it’s a very scary moment and hunger is a very…matter.”

I understand that republicans are afraid of Neera Tanden based on her kick ass tweets is what I am hearing. Can anyone shed some light on this?

      • 41 globalcitizenlinda
        November 30, 2020 at 1:32 pm

        unfortunately, not just republicans.

There are people who claim to be more-pure-than-thou on the Dem camp (some progressives) who are attacking her.

When you watch closely, it is the same people who attack President Obama, MVP Harris, Secretary Clinton and now Neera Tanden. These seem to be more angry at Democrats than republicans.

As for republicans, they are scared of every strong brilliant woman and especially women of color.

I am going to bat for Ms. Neera Tanden. I am not going to standby and let them demonize or destroy her.

We all played with the boys, often beating them at any game, until puberty really set in. I love this group of younger women who benefitted from Title 9 and changing times who are out here kicking ass and taking names in the sports arena. Now, we need to make sure that they get equal pay when they are professionals.

I read a Facebook post with some screenshots of comments after this game. They were awful, ugly. 😢😢😡I agree about Title 9. Every time I see anything about Title 9 or women in sports, I think about our Pat Summit. She played a huge role in that and was ‘hell on wheels’ if anyone tried to interfere with every young girl or young woman achieving her goals and dreams.

Pelosi Statement on Biden-Harris Appointments in Key Economic Policy Posts:
“President-elect Biden and Vice President-elect Harris have assembled a brilliant,
visionary economic team, whose historic nominations represent a lifeline for millions of working families struggling during this devastating pandemic and economic crisis.

“Dr. Janet Yellen’s discipline, determination, and dazzling track record of success at the forefront of economic policy-making will be indispensable in our country’s work to not only recover from this crisis, but to Build Back Better. Her leadership at the Federal Reserve and her knowledge of the markets make her highly regarded both in the international financial community and among policymakers on both sides of the Capitol. In particular, her decades of experience in promoting a strong labor market, fighting income inequality and unleashing the full power of women in the workforce will make a difference for millions of workers, our economy and our democracy. Congratulations to her as she takes up the role of Treasury Secretary.

“Dr. Cecilia Rouse, Neera Tanden, Wally Adeyemo, Dr. Jared Bernstein, and Dr. Heather Boushey bring outstanding intellectual credentials and a profound understanding of the challenges facing working families. Along with Dr. Yellen, their leadership will be critical to delivering urgent and meaningful relief to the American people and building a fairer and more just economy that works for all.”

“Our Democratic House Majority looks forward to working with this extraordinary team.”

“House Democrats Introduce Landmark Reforms Package, the Protecting Our Democracy Act
Reforms to Prevent Presidential Abuses, Restore Checks and Balances,
Strengthen Accountability and Transparency, and Protect Elections”

    “After introducing the legislation,
Chairman Adam Schiff, Chairman Jerrold Nadler, Chairwoman Carolyn B. Maloney, Chairman John Yarmuth, Chairperson Zoe Lofgren, Chairman Eliot Engel, and Chairman Richard E. Neal said:

“Since taking office, President Trump has placed his own personal and political interests above the national interest by protecting and enriching himself, targeting his political opponents, seeking foreign interference in our elections, eroding transparency, seeking to end accountability, and otherwise abusing the power of his office.

“Our democracy is not self-effectuating – it takes work and a commitment to guard it against those who would undermine it, whether foreign or domestic. It is time for Congress to strengthen the bedrock of our democracy and ensure our laws are strong enough to withstand a lawless president. That’s why we are acting today to introduce the Protecting Our Democracy Act.

“This reforms package will prevent future presidential abuses, restore our checks and balances, strengthen accountability and transparency, and protect our elections. These reforms are necessary not only because of the abuses of this president, but because the foundation of our democracy is the rule of law and that foundation is deeply at risk. This is just the beginning because we need to obtain more information so that we can continue to refine and develop these and other reforms.

“It is our responsibility to ensure that our democracy carries on for generations to come.”

  35. November 30, 2020 at 1:54 pm

Specifically, the Protecting Our Democracy Act will:
    Prevent Presidential Abuses:
Prevent Abuse of the Pardon Power:
Ensure No President is Above the Law:
Enforce the Foreign and Domestic Emoluments Clauses of the Constitution:
Restore Our System of Checks and Balances, Strengthen Accountability, and Transparency:
    Enforce Congressional Subpoenas:
Reassert Congressional Power of the Purse:
Strengthen Congressional Oversight of Presidential Emergency Declarations:
Provide Security from Political Interference in Justice:
    Protect Inspector General Independence:
    Protect Whistleblowers:
    Provide Accountability for Acting Officials:
Strengthen Hatch Act Enforcement and Penalties:
    Protect Our Elections:
    Prevent Foreign Interference in Elections:

President-elect Biden wants to re-unite America and we want that.
    Congressman Jim Himes to Hayes:
“But it cannot possibly be lost on Trump that Joe Biden is not out for blood on these issues. I think we’re going to see more pardons, more blatantly corrupt activity in the coming weeks.”

    • November 30, 2020 at 2:35 pm

      Congressman Himes:
“The point is there’s only thing that has ever mattered to Donald Trump and that is deep, deep loyalty to him and to him only. I mean from the moment that he talked to Jim Comey and said ‘I need your loyalty’ and Jim Comey said…whatever you think of Jim Comey, Jim Comey pushed back on that. And the president said ‘No, I need your loyalty’. That is what defines this president. And it has warped our Government institutions. Bill Barr the Attorney General very early on, not a dumb man, he learned that lesson. He turned the Department of Justice into a legal defense firm for Donald Trump. People like John Ratcliffe, people like Richard Grenelle who are directors of National Intelligence, turned our Intelligence Community into a political support mechanism for the President of the United States. This of course is what the new President Joe Biden is going to have to fix when he takes office on January 20th.”

    John Brennan former CIA Director,
Joins Hayes to discuss the pardon of Michael Flynn:
“This just sends a very bad signal, not only to Americans, but also to folks around the globe, that this type of activity and behavior is taking place in our government in 2020.”

“I think there needs to be a look back on what has happened now the last several years as a result of this presidency, and the corrosive effect it has had on what I think really needs to be embedded in our Government, which is the trust that the American people can have in the people who are carrying out these very solemn and sacred responsibilities.”

I don’t know if many here are aware that Mr. Adewale “Wally” Adeyemo, who has been nominated to be the first African American Deputy Treasury Secretary, has been working as the first president of the Obama Foundation.

He has held other very high level positions in government especially under President Obama.

I also note that as an fellow immigrant from Africa, this appointment holds a special significance for our African immigrant community and the African continent.

Mr. Adeyemo is a Nigerian-born American who was raised in California.

Trump plays the “vague” card as much as possible. In doing so he hopes his decisions reach a federal court and is heard by a conservative judge he’s installed. And that’s why Mcturtle is always rushing through a judicial nominee.

Yes, under President Biden we will return to good foreign policy based on expertise and knowledge instead of propaganda and grift.

Deforestation of the Amazon rainforest in Brazil has surged to its highest level since 2008, the country’s space agency (Inpe) reports.

A total of 11,088 sq km (4,281 sq miles) of rainforest were destroyed from August 2019 to July 2020. This is a 9.5% increase from the previous year.

The Amazon is a vital carbon store that slows down the pace of global warming.

Scientists say it has suffered losses at an accelerated rate since Jair Bolsonaro took office in January 2019.

The Brazilian president has encouraged agriculture and mining activities in the world’s largest rainforest.

The Amazon is home to about three million species of plants and animals, and one million indigenous people.

Brazil had set a goal of slowing the pace of deforestation to 3,900 sq km annually by 2020.

In addition to encouraging development in the rainforest, President Bolsonaro has also cut funding to federal agencies that have the power to fine and arrest farmers and loggers breaking environmental law.

Mr Bolsonaro has previously clashed with Inpe over its deforestation data. Last year, he accused the agency of smearing Brazil’s reputation.

Seems that the only real plan that will be in place for vaccine distribution will be the one put in place by the Biden/Harris administration. Again, tRump is pitting states against each other vying for access to the drug. But this time around, his favorites won’t get preferential treatment as he will no longer be in the position to dole out his favors.

With all the opinions about who P-E Biden should select for [key] positions in his administration, and given the criticism we’re already hearing about persons he is — in some cases assumed to be — considering…

One thing you can say about every name that has been and is being put into consideration is that THEY ARE QUALIFIED for the position.
