The Wayne County Board of Canvassers decision to actually certify the election came after about 3 hours of voters loudly calling out the board for trying to disenfranchise Detroit voters.
There was a time that we voted on Election Day, got the results, and pretty much put it to the back of our minds. This was basically the start of the holiday season with focus on celebrating Thanksgiving and Christmas/Chanukah/Kwanzaa. The Electoral College, although we knew of it, did not seem to be a big deal; just an official confirmation of the results. For a long time, even Inauguration Day, for many,[me] was just a blip in our [my] thoughts. I think 1992 was the first time I really paid attention to the Inauguration and of course, during both of President Obama’s Inauguration Days.
Except for the 2000 election, that was how it went. That’s why it’s disconcerting to be going through all the shenanigans and chaos being caused by the childish, angry tantrum-like response to losing by the current WH Occupant and the Republicans — National and State — who are striving to appease him. Daily frivolous lawsuits and fraudulent accusations of cheating and misconduct. Attempts to discount legally cast votes. Pouting/virtual foot stomping and refusing to begin the orderly transition with the President-Elect.

The HOPE that the antics that we have seen over recent years and especially with this election will make people MORE AWARE and keep us MORE VIGILANT and LESS COMPLACENT as we move towards “BUILD[ing] BACK BETTER” and beyond.

Initially, vaccine supplies will be limited. There won’t be enough to protect everyone, but getting the shots to the people who are most at risk could change the course of the pandemic.
