      Good evening Todville ☺.

I am going to say a little prayer everyday for Jon Ossoff and Rev.Warnock to win their Senate seats on Jan 5th..
And, WHEN they are both sworn in, and Republicans are not in the majority, America can rest easy … for a while.

Georgia, girl we need you more than ever, to remove Moscow Mitch.
So that President Biden and VP Harris can succeed.

Goodnight everyone…please get lots of sleep and rest.

This is the reason President Obama and AG Holder selected to work on this as a priority issue after he left office.

Ohio at least had this on the ballot in a prior election cycle.

The next redistricting has somewhat restricted the power of the gop

They believe they have the votes to win in the House? How?!?!?!?!

      • 50 Dudette
        November 9, 2020 at 9:32 am

Not the House. The US House comes into play if the electoral college count is tied (like 269/269). The electors actually have to vote before that happens.

The fear isn’t that it goes to the House, but that the electoral college electors’ votes can be compromised or even changed somehow.

Electoral college electors are selected by the candidates’ or their parties before the election. Generally they cast their votes based on the popular vote or their party. But they don’t have to; they can vote their “conscience” instead. If they vote against the will of the people, it’s called “faithless voting.” Though unlikely, there could be some shenanigans with electors not voting as they’re expected to.
[Elie Mystal and Josh Marshall both have convincing Twitter threads about the unlikely event that faithless voting would steal this election.]

I think his concern might be more about what happens between when the electors vote and when the officially certified results get announced the public.

        Here’s the timeline:
        https://www.archives.gov/electoral-college/key-dates

Note what happens between Dec 8 and Jan 6. Remember who runs the Senate. Never doubt the GOP’s capacity for dirty tricks, up to and including outright crime.

The good news is that there are a bunch of smart gladiators on our side who know this stuff inside-out and are working to keep the crooks at bay.

        • November 9, 2020 at 10:38 am

Thanks for the detailed explanation and link. Sounds more complicated than it probably is, or should be. In the past, this process has been somewhat seamless. No telling what shenanigans will arise in this election process.

Emily Murphy a Trump appointee, is behind Trump controversies such as canceling the plan to build a new FBI building and causing the FBI to stay in the decrepit building up the road from Trump hotel – he feared new hotel competition. When Congress wanted to know how much Trump was making from foreign dignitaries, GSA Murphy would not hand over that information.
If she doesn’t hand over funding, keys, computers to the Biden transition officials now, when will it be?
      It usually happens right away.
In 2008 the handover happened at 1am via a phonecall on Nov 4 2008.
The GSA was signed the same night President Obama won.
In 2000 the GSA was not signed until December 14 (around the vote of the Electoral College).
Such a delay would happen if the GSA cannot “ascertain the winner”. How does Trump invalidate the election? By not conceding, etc, then holding it till after the Electoral College. Let’s see if Trump and the crazies are trying to block the transition via holding up the GSA. Don’t let them to gum it up with law suits, etc. The votes have been painstakingly counted. We won fair and square. It is over.
      –Let’s get ahead of this.
