      Xochtil Hinojosa, DNC Communications Director,
      speaks to Hayes:
“It is easy…if you are one of the people who has not voted yet,
I want you to take out your mobile device right now, and I want you go to https://iwillvote.com.
And I want you to make a plan to vote right this minute.
And whether that is if you hold your ballot in hand – find a way to drop it at a Drop Box.
If you decide you are going to vote in person, go ahead and figure out, can I vote early this week, or am I going to vote on Election Day?
You have options, and we want to make sure voters understand that.
If you are voting in person, bring a mask, bring a pen, bring some hand sanitizer. It is easy.
I actually voted in person in the Primary…people were keeping their distance. And it is easy to do.
So we want voters to understand that they have options but you only have one week left! This is it!!
If you don’t want 4 more years of Donald Trump then you need to go and Vote.”

    • October 28, 2020 at 11:44 am

Hayes: “Let’s say I have an absentee ballot and I haven’t sent it in yet, what should I do?”
      Hinojosa:
“I want you to got to iwillvote.com and figure out where you are turning it in.
Because you can put it in a Drop Box. You can potentially take it to your polling location, or you can go ahead and vote in person. So there are options, but you have to make that plan right this minute.
And there are different laws in various states. And you want to make sure you are following the rules in every state.”
Hayes: “You can go and vote in person even if you have an absentee ballot…?”
Hinojosa: “That’s right…but again in every state it varies….follow all the directions very carefully.”

    Stacey Abrams,
Fair Fight Action founder, fmr leader GA state legislature, speaking to Rachel Maddow:
Maddow: “You’ve been among the people who has been suggesting that right now if you don’t have your ballot in by now already, you better get it in in-person. Even if it’s going to be long lines. Because it may be at this point, too late to do it any other way. May be too late to do it by mail. I imagine giving that kind of advice has to have a lot of cross-current feelings for you.”
    Abrams:
“Well I think the most important pieces reminding people that the end goal is to be heard.
And while voting by mail was the safest most accessible option, what we have to remember is once you have that ballot, the mission is to GET IT IN. And mail would be best if people could just go to their very safe mailboxes and drop it off. But in lieu thereof, we live in 2020. In lieu thereof, getting it in the hands of those who will count it is what matters most. Going to a Drop Box, going to your County Election’s Office, bringing it with you if you haven’t filled it out and getting it canceled if you need to vote in-person. But making certain that our focus, much like those women and men in those lines that you talked about, it’s about being seen and being heard, and not letting anyone distract you from that mission.”

    • October 28, 2020 at 2:16 pm

Maddow: “Stacey are you seeing differences in Georgia specifically,
in terms of who has been able to get their ballot back? Obviously a lot of people are going to vote on Election Day. But in terms of people who have requested ballots from the state and have them, and haven’t brought them back yet. Are you seeing demographic differences or age differences in terms of whose ballots are still out there outstanding, that need to be brought in now?”
      Abrams:
“Well we know that they’re about 750,000 outstanding ballots.
We know that because, for example, the county of Gwinnett needed larger ballots because of language requirements, that there was a bit of a delay. But overall what we’ve seen as been very promising. We have seen young people returning ballots at rates we’ve never before. We’ve seen Black voters returning those ballots at rates we’ve not expected. And right now we are doing exceptionally well in mail-in balloting.
But we know that 750,000 votes is a huge number.”

    • October 28, 2020 at 2:18 pm

      Abrams:
“And so we’re hoping that people will hear us,
and understand at this point: DO NOT PUT IT IN THE MAIL.
Georgia…requires that your ballot be received by 7pm on November 3rd.
And that means take it to a Drop Box, all but 31 counties have them. And in the counties without Drop Boxes, you can take it to the Election’s Office. But make certain you get it in.”

    • October 28, 2020 at 2:20 pm

Maddow. “One of the other dynamics that to me has some emotional heft for this year’s elections,
is that unlike previous years where most of the vote has come in on Election Day, this year it does seem like most of the vote is going to be cast ahead of Election Day. Voters of all kinds and in all places collectively will vote more in advance of Election Day than on the day of. And one of the things that does, is it creates a lot of energy out there, and a lot of potential resources out there of people who have already done their personal part. People ahead of Election Day. They have already got their ballot cast and they’re sure that it’s going to be counted. And they still want to help. They still want to do more, they still are anxious about the election outcomes, and they want to contribute.
What are you telling people who feel that way right now, that have more that they want to do than just casting their own ballot? Because they’ve already got it in.”
      Abrams:
“Number one, reach out to everyone you know who has a ballot, or hasn’t decided to vote.
And make sure they go to iwillvote.com to find out how they can vote in the next six days. Number two, got to fairfight2020.com and sign up to be a volunteer. We’re going to need people, not only to service poll observers throughout this process and on Election Day, but we’re going to have to chase a lot of these ballots. Folks who do everything they’re supposed to but make one mistake – in a number of our states they have the ability to fix those mistakes. It’s called ‘curing your ballot’. So we need people to sign up to be part of chasing those ballots. And making sure that every vote that gets cast, gets counted.”

    • October 28, 2020 at 2:21 pm

      Abrams:
“And the last thing is make sure you have conversations.
I know everyone is talking about the election. It beats having conversations about how to vote…answering questions, getting past the haranguing or the lecturing to the invitation. Look if you have challenges that you want to see fixed – and Rachel you said this perfectly. We’ve got to go all the way down the ballot. The closer we are to the bottom of the ballot, the closer we are to home. And so we need to be having conversations, not just about the changes we need at the national level but the changes we need at home, and every voice has to be part of that change.”
