    Good Morning Everyone! 😁
    Thank you Nerdy Wonka! 😘

Morning, Dudette! Today is likely to be a dark day with the looming confirmation of Amy Coney Barrett to SCOTUS over the objections of voters who have not forgotten Merrick Garland. Keep calling your Senators until it’s over. Make the GOP pay a price at the polls for their raw power grab!

Thank you Nerdy – Hola TOD. I too Voted – last friday and my son dropped off both our ballots in our nearest drop box. Both of us of course voted all blue/ all dem. His first presidential election :). Everyone I know have either already voted via mail or will be early voting- in line. All of them – in-laws, everyone voting straight democrats.

I hope/ believe we have a strategy in place for when trump & repubs use their newly illegally confirmed “justice” to cheat their way to winning this election. Because I do not doubt that is their whole sole goal here.

    President Obama in Miami:
“We literally left this White House a pandemic playbook that showed them how to respond before a virus reached our shores. They must be lost along with the Republican healthcare plan.”
“Joe understands how much it hurts for grandparents to not be able to see their grandkids or hug each other.
They understand that you can’t effectively economy moving again as long as people are afraid of getting a disease. He’s not going to screw up testing. He’s not going to call scientists idiots. He’s not going to host a super spreader event at the White House like the way this current president did. So Joe is going to get this pandemic under control with a plan that makes testing free and widely available, which we should have been doing
    months ago.”
“Republicans love to say right before an election that they’ll protect your preexisting conditions.
Now listen, Joe and I actually protected them 10 years ago with the Affordable Care Act, which made sure that anybody with a preexisting condition could get health insurance. It protected everybody. It protected folks who already had health insurance. It protected folks who might have to buy health insurance in the future. Hispanics saw the biggest gains in coverage of anybody, almost 93% of Hispanic kids got covered, an all time high. And yet under this administration, Hispanic kids have lost coverage. And throughout this process, when we were getting folks healthcare, Republicans fought us every step of the way. They’ve tried to repeal or undermine the Affordable Care Act, Obamacare more than 60 times.”
“We see young people like George, who introduced me, ask us, “Do we not breathe the same air? Do we not bleed the same blood? Do we not deserve safety, belonging, and matter?”
“Joe Biden has got a plan to create 10 million good jobs in the energy sector,
in the clean energy sector right here in America. And it’s part of his plan to protect Florida from climate change and secure environmental justice, and he’ll pay for it by rolling back Trump’s tax cuts for billionaires.
A nation that stands with democracy, not dictators. A nation that can inspire and mobilize others to overcome threats like climate change and terrorism and poverty and disease.”

The opioid epidemic killed over 450,000 Americans.
Purdue Pharma, makers of the highly addictive painkiller OxyContin, have been on front page headlines all over the country about the settlement with the Trump Justice Department (days before the election).
    Rachel Maddow:
“Purdue Pharma will plead guilty to criminal charges for their role in fraudulently marketing
their super-pain killer that killed so many people.
The settlement is being crowed about by the Justice Department…
Purdue Pharma only has to pay $225 million up front, which is a lot of money to people, but not to Purdue. Because Purdue is in bankruptcy and has scores of creditors, it’s highly unlikely that we’ll see anything close to the multibillion dollar kind of payment that they’ve been crowing about. In those bankruptcies, creditors get pennies on the dollar. Members of the Sackler family behind the Purdue company, the states, cities, and individual plaintiffs alleged were instrumental in the company’s crimes.
The Sackler family and Purdue Pharma executives themselves aren’t going to face any criminal charges
as humans. Nobody from the Sackler family even had to admit to any wrongdoing as part of this deal. They’ve agreed to pay a multimillion dollar civil fine, but again that’s not much, when you consider that the family has syphoned over $10 Billion out of the company in the years leading up to its convenient bankruptcy filing. However this settlement doesn’t settle or dismiss Purdue’s and the Sacklers’ many state and local lawsuits that are still pending against them, even if the Trump Justice Department decided they were going to end it. The Sacklers aren’t protected against any future state, or even federal, criminal charges. By the looks of it, this federal settlement, as much as the Trump Administration has tried to make this seem like a victory, it seems like it has only energized State Attorneys General even more, and their fight for justice against the opioid epidemic villains.”

    • October 26, 2020 at 1:09 pm

      AG Maura Healey, MA:
Has pursued her own case against Purdue Pharma and the Sacklers.
She was the first AG to sue individual members of the Sackler family and her office is set to depose them.
Maddow: “I was struck by your immediate statement in reaction to the settlement.
You said “I am not done with Purdue and the Sacklers”. What do you wish the Justice Department had done as part of this settlement? Was a settlement at this point of any kind inappropriate?”
      AG Healey:
“Well here’s what’s so devastating about this settlement.
Back in 2006, the Justice Department went after Purdue. And ultimately after hearing testimony from families devastated by this epidemic, they had to deal with Purdue and allowed Purdue to basically, get off the hook. Here we are so many years later, when the Justice Department has a second chance to do it right. But once again they let them off the hook. The way you describe this settlement, this deal, is entirely accurate: There’s no one going to jail. There’s no justice. The Sacklers face no admissions of guilt, let alone wrongdoing, or liability. They’re paying $225 million which is probably 2% of the billions and billions of dollars – I mean estimated to be between $10 billion and $13 billion dollars they took from this company! And Purdue – great you got a guilty plea…against a company that’s already in bankruptcy! So this is not accountability Rachel.”

    • October 26, 2020 at 1:11 pm

      AG Healey:
“The good news is State AG’s, we’re going to continue to press our state claims in court.
And we owe that to our families. You know I talked tonight with Emily Walden of Kentucky. I sat with a group of Massachusetts families the other day who were outraged by this deal. And I called Emily tonight because she is one of the organizers for a group (KHRC), that just in August begged the Justice Department to be heard on this. As recently as only last week they hand delivered a letter to Bill Barr’s office saying
‘Don’t do this deal’. And you know what? The Justice Department never even responded to them. As a prosecutor, that’s no way to treat a victim. And as you mention, there are more than 450,000 opioid deaths. That number grows every day Rachel. And I just can’t for the life of me understand why the Justice Department cut this deal. And I’ll tell you another thing, my prosecutors are ready to take depositions of the Sackler family, Richard, Mortimer, and Kathe next month. You would think if the Justice Department was truly interested in justice and getting to the bottom of what happened and holding them accountable, they would have sat in for those depositions. We’re going to go forward with those depositions. But you think of the shame Rachel, that our own United States Department of Justice didn’t do its job in this case,
and the shame on behalf of the families.”

    ‘Trump and Epstein were pedophiles’.
This is what sprung-ed into my mind from first flush about QAnon – but i didn’t go there.
But I believe this is the impetus and source of Q’s first messages.
Imo the conspiracy was brung into being to defend criminal acts and reverse point the fingers and try to say the evidence is opposed to truth. Imo it creates a crazy idea that turns their crimes back on you,
in order to protect their crime-ridden leaders.
btw: ‘Harvesting children’s fluids for consumption’ is not new. QAnon has modernized anti-semitic propaganda
    for 2020.

    • October 26, 2020 at 2:30 pm

Is why I so appreciate this new article:
      “The ‘Q’ movement is a pro-pedophile, pro-terrorist, anti-Semitic Nazi-adjacent Trumpian cult”
“Well, we seem to be getting closer to the national realization that this thing that calls itself “QAnon” is, at heart, just another partisan iteration of the same far-right conspiracy theories that have plagued conservatives since forever ago.”
“The most plausible explanation for the Q hokum,
in which an anonymous supposed member of the Deep State drools out accusations against anyone deemed to be enemies of Donald Trump in comically performed pseudo-riddles, remains the obvious one: It is the work of chan-style trolls, part of that internet corner’s grand tradition of crafting gaudily improbable hoaxes to distribute for no other purpose than to see who they can draw in. It may turn out to be the first domestic terrorism group founded for funsies—though at this point, those connected to the movement have focused their claims and targets enough to make it clear that stoking incidents of real-world terrorism is, in fact, the current goal.

Minnesota’s GOP’s Rightwinger for the Senate race had emergency life-saving operations.

    https://www.startribune.com/gop-senate-candidate-jason-lewis-has-emergency-surgery/572872191/

The former congressman was experiencing abdominal pain and was hurried into the emergency room Monday morning for tests. Doctors determined he had a hernia, which could be life-threatening if it’s not treated fast, the campaign said in a statement.

Lewis is challenging DFL incumbent U.S. Sen. Tina Smith. He previously represented Minnesota’s Second Congressional District.

Lewis was optimistic as he headed into surgery, the campaign said in an announcement released around 11 a.m.

“True to form, he was speculating about when he could resume campaigning, eager to continue fighting for his fellow Minnesotans,” Campaign Manager Tom Szymanski said in a statement. He posted on Twitter shortly after the announcement that “Jason Lewis is going to beat @TinaSmithMN from the hospital.”

Ronald Sanders, chairman of the Federal Salary Council (FSC), formally resigned from his position Monday, citing objections to an executive order issued by President Donald Trump last week. The order calls for the removal of firing protections usually afforded to certain federal employees.

In a letter confirming his departure, Sanders described the executive order, purportedly about holding federal employees more accountable, as a “smokescreen,” veiling Trump’s true intentions to expand control over federal workers through altered employment protections. He addressed the letter to John McEntee, director of the White House’s presidential personnel office.

“Why do some British people not like Donald Trump?” Nate White, an articulate and witty writer from England wrote the following response:

A few things spring to mind. Trump lacks certain qualities which the British traditionally esteem. For instance, he has no class, no charm, no coolness, no credibility, no compassion, no wit, no warmth, no wisdom, no subtlety, no sensitivity, no self-awareness, no humility, no honour and no grace – all qualities, funnily enough, with which his predecessor Mr. Obama was generously blessed. So for us, the stark contrast does rather throw Trump’s limitations into embarrassingly sharp relief.

Plus, we like a laugh. And while Trump may be laughable, he has never once said anything wry, witty or even faintly amusing – not once, ever. I don’t say that rhetorically, I mean it quite literally: not once, not ever. And that fact is particularly disturbing to the British sensibility – for us, to lack humour is almost inhuman. But with Trump, it’s a fact. He doesn’t even seem to understand what a joke is – his idea of a joke is a crass comment, an illiterate insult, a casual act of cruelty.

    • October 26, 2020 at 5:47 pm

And worse, he is that most unforgivable of all things to the British: a bully. That is, except when he is among bullies; then he suddenly transforms into a snivelling sidekick instead. There are unspoken rules to this stuff – the Queensberry rules of basic decency – and he breaks them all. He punches downwards – which a gentleman should, would, could never do – and every blow he aims is below the belt. He particularly likes to kick the vulnerable or voiceless – and he kicks them when they are down.

This last point is what especially confuses and dismays British people, and many other people too; his faults seem pretty bloody hard to miss. After all, it’s impossible to read a single tweet, or hear him speak a sentence or two, without staring deep into the abyss. He turns being artless into an art form; he is a Picasso of pettiness; a Shakespeare of shit. His faults are fractal: even his flaws have flaws, and so on ad infinitum. God knows there have always been stupid people in the world, and plenty of nasty people too. But rarely has stupidity been so nasty, or nastiness so stupid. He makes Nixon look trustworthy and George W look smart. In fact, if Frankenstein decided to make a monster assembled entirely from human flaws – he would make a Trump.

And a remorseful Doctor Frankenstein would clutch out big clumpfuls of hair and scream in anguish: ‘My God… what… have… I… created?’ If being a twat was a TV show, Trump would be the boxed set.
