    Good morning TODVille.

    Beautiful letter!

  3. October 16, 2020 at 12:48 pm

    “Rudy Giuliani Is My Father.
Please, Everyone, Vote for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris.”
“I may not be able to change my father’s mind, but together, we can vote this toxic administration out of office.
Trump and his enablers have used his presidency to stoke the injustice that already permeated our society, taking it to dramatically new, Bond-villain heights. I am a filmmaker in the LGBTQ+ community who tells stories about mental health, sexuality, and other stigmatized issues, and my goal is to humanize people and foster empathy. So I hope you’ll believe me when I say that another Trump term (a term, itself, that makes me cringe) will irrevocably harm the LGBTQ+ community, among many others. His administration asked the Supreme Court to let businesses fire people for being gay or trans, pushed a regulation to let health care providers refuse services to people who are LGTBQ+, and banned trans people from serving their country in the military.”

“Women, immigrants, people with disabilities, and people of color are all also under attack by Trump’s inhumane policies—and by his judicial appointments, including, probably, Amy Coney Barrett.
Trump’s administration has torn families apart in more ways than I even imagined were possible, from ripping children from their parents at the border to mishandling the coronavirus, which has resulted in over 215,000 in the U.S. dying, many thousands of them without their loved ones near.
Faced with preventable deaths during a pandemic that Trump downplayed and ignored, rhetoric that has fed deep-seated, systemic racism, and chaos in the White House, it’s no surprise that so many Americans feel as hopeless and overwhelmed as I did growing up. But if we refuse to face our political reality, we don’t stand a chance of changing it.”

“But I know what is at stake, and Joe Biden will be everyone’s president if elected.
If you are planning to cast a symbolic vote or abstain from voting altogether, please reconsider.
It is more important than ever to avoid complacency. This election is far from over, and if 2020 has taught us anything, it’s that anything can happen.” (Caroline Giuliani)

    Senator Sheldon Whitehouse:
“When David Koch ran for vice president, he campaigned on getting rid of Medicare and Medicaid.
Imagine his fury when Obamacare passed?
His groups are spending millions right now on this nomination.
Republicans in Congress tried and failed to repeal the ACA more than 70 times.
It’s in the Republican party platform for justices to reverse the ACA decision.
Trump has over and over said this is his reason. And now, we’re in this mad rush to meet the November 10th argument deadline, and colleagues pretend this isn’t about the ACA. Right.
The travel of the ACA case leads to one senator’s doorstep.
In a Politico article yesterday, the senior senator from Texas tried to say that this rush process isn’t targeting the ACA. But look at the record.
The district judge in Texas who struck down the ACA in the case now headed for the court is a former aide to this senator, who’s become what the Texas Tribune calls the favorite for Texas Republicans seeking big judicial wins like torpedo in the ACA.
The senior senator from Texas introduced in committee the circuit court judge who wrote the decision on appeal striking down the ACA.”
“Senator Cornyn has filed brief after brief arguing for striking down the ACA.
He led the failed Senate charge to repeal the ACA in 2017.
He said, “I’ve introduced and co-sponsored 27 bills to repeal or defund Obamacare and voted to do so at every opportunity.”
And now, talking about socialized medicine, the old Republican battle cry against Medicare,
Senator Cornyn and all of our colleagues on this committee are pushing to get this nominee on by November 10th, the time needed to strike down the Affordable Care Act.
Please don’t tell us this isn’t about the Affordable Care Act.
From Cornyn judge to Cornyn judge to this nominee, hop hop hop.
When Texans lose their ACA healthcare protections, hop, hop, hop to see who’s doorstep that sits on.”

    Election theft in 2000:
“Amy Coney Barrett Knows Exactly What She Did in 2000”
“The Supreme Court nominee would be the third (!) sitting justice, alongside Brett Kavanaugh and John Roberts, who worked on the Republican side of Bush v. Gore.”
“That was the greatest and bloodiest politico-legal brawl since the 1800 presidential election.
Working on the Republican side of it was a terrific career move for ambitious conservative lawyers.
(How terrific? Two of Barrett’s prospective bench mates on the Supreme Court—Chief Justice John Roberts and Justice Brett Kavanaugh—were both members of the Bush legal team.) Are we seriously to believe that Barrett doesn’t remember what work she did during that historical moment?”

The dueling town halls on competing networks crowned an early winner, at least ratings-wise: Early Nielsen ratings estimates declare Joe Biden the victor over Donald Trump.

The ratings service says 13.9 million viewers tuned into the former VP and Democratic candidate’s town hall on ABC from 8 to 10 EDT Thursday night, moderated by George Stephanopoulos, while 10.7 million watched Savannah Guthrie referee voters’ conversations with President Trump from 8 to 9 EDT on NBC. Another 2.4 million watched Trump in simulcasts on MSNBC and CNBC, but even with those figures added in, Biden’s town hall still beat Trump’s by nearly 1 million viewers.

U.S. budget deficit breached $3.1 trillion in 2020 as coronavirus pandemic slammed economy, new government data shows

The federal government’s record-shattering deficit was the result of a huge increase in spending by Congress and the White House to try to prevent the recession from deepening. The White House said the government spent $6.55 trillion in the fiscal year that ended Sept. 30, nearly double what it brought in through tax revenue.

    Helluv-an interview that…Governor Cuomo and O’Donnell.
Felt it over again and again, the torture of leaders living through the COVID-19 devastation, the living hell in the hospitals, those who love and care for us all fending for themselves. How the Trump White House forced cities to compete internationally, with states, and with the Fed itself for essential PPE, ventilators and funding.
Trump toying with and trying to extort Governor Cuomo as he was working around the clock, reporting on air every day, fighting like hell for thousands of New York lives. While the fake president golfed, refused to announce DPA, or any kind of national strategy (still to this day), took revenge on imaginary enemies, and golfed while we died, and died, and died. No we didn’t imagine Doomsky saying it wasn’t the job of the federal government to take action month after month after month. But he did. We will always remember how he blocked state and local funding even as he dumped all of the responsibility for the tCOVID-19 response upon them.

“Thanks to a newly completed digitization effort by the U.S. National Archives and the Museum of Indian Arts
and Culture (MIAC) in Santa Fe, researchers and the public now have unprecedented access to hundreds of these critical agreements. The online collection features 374 ratified Indian treaties from the archives’ holdings. According to a blog post, these documents are housed in a specially protected area of the National Archives building and are unavailable for use in the Central Research Room due to their fragility and significance. More than 50 of the treaties are written on large sheets of parchment; several contain drawings, maps and wampum, or decorative beads used as currency in some Native American tribes.”

Yes, I now do. I read about it but it is about an hour and a half away from where I live.

In fact I am one of the people whose ballots got messed up.

They printed the wrong precincts codes on the ballot and had to redo them again.

I got my first absentee ballot and it was the one with an error. I received a second one with the correct precincts and it is the one I have used.

The segment on Sandy Hook and the interview with that Dad had me sobbing just in how, even 6 years later, he cried at how President Obama embraced his wife and let her cry on his shoulder. He then said that we need a president who has empathy and it’s dangerous to us, if he doesn’t. I voted for Hillary and last weekend I voted for Joe and Kamala. I am so proud of Democrats who have leaders with empathy. I am so glad for this place where we all loved President Obama and watched him and his administration do the right thing over and over again. We saw most of the photographs, we learned about all the great things his administration did to make life better for Americans and we watched the WH being filled with love, joy and energy. I miss Barack Obama every damn day. I loved Pete’s movie and ended up being able to watch it twice. First, with a friend (in my pod) who was not aware of all that PBO did and couldn’t stop talking throughout the movie comparing “fu*kin Trump” is how she put it with how wonderful Obama had been, so I watched the rerun at 10pm (CA time) with my husband in peace and quiet. Cried many tears.

You were not alone. It brought back a time a century ago when the US presidency had decency and meant something; a time when there was an administration who made us proud, a POTUS who was a real leader and who governed as such. Oh, yes, a time where the words “lie” and “liar” were never used in anything related to that two-term President, except, of course, by the disgrace Joe Wilson, king of Tea Party. Sweet memories!

I always ask the above questions.
The Founders were smart, but limited due to how life was back in the 1760s.
The Constitution was written to be amended, a Living document. The OG 13 Colonies didn’t have more than 14M in population combined. The 13 States were relatively equal in Population. Hence 2 Senators for each State made sense. 1 Rep for 30K made perfect sense. Had that stayed…or even when it was amended to 300K, stayed…No way in 2000 & 2016 would GW Bush & Trumpery be possible. Those on the right weaponize the Electoral College. In 1967, Hubert Humphery, a proud Minnesotan & Co; then Dems Controlled the Congress were moving to drop or change the Electoral College. Southern Dems derailed the effort. It is high time that some massive change be implemented or the GOP will continue to cheat & pack the Courts to sustain their minority rule.

WASHINGTON — The U.S. Justice Department said on Friday it has scheduled the first federal execution of a woman in almost 70 years, setting a Dec. 8 date to put to death Lisa Montgomery, convicted of a 2004 murder.

Montgomery, who was found guilty of strangling a pregnant woman in Missouri, will be executed by lethal injection at U.S. Penitentiary Terre Haute, Indiana, the department said in a statement.

The last woman to be executed by the U.S. government was Bonnie Heady, who was put to death in a gas chamber in Missouri in 1953, according to the Death Penalty Information Center.
