“Trump Admin Admits Embrace Of Disputed Herd Immunity Strategy: WaPo ”
“Rachel Maddow shares reporting by the Washington Post that a Trump administration official has admitted that the Trump policy for dealing with coronavirus is tantamount to herd immunity, even as experts deride it as “fringe” and “dangerous,” and the U.S. appears to be in the grips of a second wave of infections.”

      September 16th, Maddow:
Explained the math on herd immunity.
“Math on Trump Covid strategy has millions dying before it works”
“Rachel Maddow does the math on the herd immunity Covid-19 strategy that Donald Trump has chosen, with the backing of Fox News doctor Scott Atlas, as the way the U.S. will deal with the coronavirus and finds that even with rosy circumstances and granting some leaps Trump makes without the support of science, millions of people would die in the U.S. for it to work.”

    • October 14, 2020 at 11:55 am

      Under the “Herd” plan:
65% of population has to be infected = 215 million Americans.
Our fatality rate = close to 3% of positive infections.
      = 6.4 million deaths.

    um imo,
    Barrett spilled the beans.
GOP probably thinks they’re pretty slick sliding Barrett into our Supreme Court.
Despite refusing to answer yes or no to basic questions on decades old law (e.g. intimidation at the polls),
    Barrett unintentionally showed
her and GOP’s true colors by referring to LGBTQ issues as “sexual preference”.
By not using the term “sexual orientation”,
    Barrett let slip her ignorance,
    prejudice,
    or both.
“Sexual preference” suggests a choice for which you can be punished or “trained out” of.
The Christian Right would like LGBTQ folks to disappear. They cannot jail them or kill them off as in other countries. Instead they give money to aggressive regimes to do it for them. Here at home maybe start with discrimination, undo the marriage law and make it illegal, bring back DOMA.
—Barrett here reminding us that the trump architects are stacking the courts with the Christian Right.

    • October 14, 2020 at 12:41 pm

BARRETT: Referred to LGBTQ as “people with a sexual preference”.
“I certainly didn’t mean and would never mean to use a term that would cause any offense to the LGBTQ community”… Barrett largely evaded questions Tuesday on how she would rule on specific issues,
as is the general practice in Supreme Court confirmation hearings.
But her claim to have never discriminated against the LGBTQ community rang hollow after a New York Timed profile revealed she had served on the board of an Indiana private school that barred admission to students of unmarried parents when same-sex marriage was not yet legalized in the state.

    Trump ends the Census early:
Pelosi Statement on Supreme Court Ruling Ending Census Early
“Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued this statement after the Supreme Court approved the Trump Administration’s emergency request to end the 2020 Census early, which threatens to deny vulnerable communities federal funding and lead to an inaccurate apportionment that will violate the constitutional right to political representation:
“The Supreme Court’s decision to enable the President’s shameful campaign to curtail the Census is regrettable and disappointing. The President’s attack on the Census count and his refusal to provide time beyond December 31 for submission of the Census report clearly violate the Constitutional mandate enshrined by our Founders for a fair and accurate Census. Further, the President’s actions threaten to politically and financially exclude many in America’s most vulnerable communities from our democracy.’
“The Trump effort to end the Census early has been resoundingly rejected by experts, including in the Government Accountability Office, Commerce Department Inspector General and Census Scientific Advisory Committee, who all warn that the accelerated schedule will result in an inaccurate Census that will deny vulnerable communities the representation and funds they are entitled to. Specifically, the Census Bureau officials have stated that curtailing the Census is ‘ludicrous’ and will result in ‘fatal data flaws that are unacceptable for a constitutionally mandated national activity.’
“The House of Representatives will continue to fight in the Courts and in the Congress to ensure that every person has a say in our American Democracy, and to ensure a fair and accurate Census as the Constitution and our American ideals demand.”

    Speaker Pelosi:
“On Pandemic Relief Negotiations With GOP”
“House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) says Mitch McConnell’s lack of interest in coming to realistic terms on a coronavirus relief bill is “heartbreaking.” While the House wants funding to aid communities hit hardest by the pandemic, she tells Lawrence O’Donnell Republicans are more interested in tax cuts.”

  70. October 15, 2020 at 10:42 am

    SPEAKER PELOSI:
Dear Colleague on Insufficiencies of the Administration’s COVID-19 Relief Proposal
    October 13 2020:
    State and Local Government:
Appropriations Chair Nita Lowey: the Trump Administration’s latest offer “shortchanges state and local governments that provide most services Americans depend on. The coronavirus pandemic is the greatest peacetime challenge our nation has ever faced. We must meet the moment, and that will require Republicans to work in good faith on a meaningful relief package.”
    Testing:
Energy and Commerce Chair Frank Pallone: “The Administration continues to refuse to put a national testing, tracing and surveillance plan in place. [The Trump plan] would also needlessly delay funding to states by requiring states to jump through legislative hoops that are simply unnecessary. It does nothing to address the barriers and needs of communities of color that have been disproportionately impacted by COVID-19.”
    Working Families:
Ways and Means Chair Richie Neal: “This approach is a transparent attempt to score political points in the coming weeks, not a plan to ensure those who are struggling can make ends meet. Democrats expanded the Child Tax Credit and the Earned Income Tax Credit. Meanwhile, the Trump proposal fails to include either of those expansions, depriving millions of Americans of thousands of dollars in tax benefits” while continuing tax benefits for some of the wealthiest in America.
    Rental Assistance:
Financial Services Chair Maxine Waters: “Right now, an estimated 14 million families are at risk of eviction and homelessness, which is why Democrats have persistently pushed to provide robust emergency rental assistance, in addition to other life-saving provisions to prevent evictions and foreclosures. The Trump Administration’s misguided action to temporarily delay evictions is no substitute for the Heroes Act’s strong tenant protections and rental relief.”
    Workers’ Protections and Child Care:
Education and Labor Chair Bobby Scott: “Seven months into the one of worst public health crisis this country has ever experienced, infection rates are rising again, and OSHA still refuses to issue any enforceable workplace safety standards. Their measly offer to increase funding for education stabilization is not enough to help schools reopen safely. Additionally, our child care system is on the brink of collapse and their proposal would not even cover half of what is needed.”
    Small Businesses:
Small Business Chair Nydia Velázquez: “Unfortunately, the Trump Administration’s proposal fails to meet the needs of our country’s smallest businesses and employees. These businesses – our local restaurants, hotels, retailers, entertainment venues, movie theaters, and family-owned and operated bodegas – were particularly harmed by the Trump Administration’s ‘first-come-first-serve’ approach to the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP). But the Administration is now requesting that Congress consider small business relief alone and in a far more inadequate form.”
    Elections:
House Administration Chair Zoe Lofgren: “While the President peddles bogus conspiracy theories about voting by mail, his proposal provides no funding for state and local governments to conduct either safe in person or safe mail voting. The COVID pandemic, which the President downplays publicly, has put financial strain on our states and our Post Office when it comes to this election. Their proposal is a disgrace.”
    Census:
Oversight and Reform Chair Carolyn Maloney: “The Administration’s latest coronavirus proposal – coming after months of dithering since the House passed the Heroes Act to provide essential relief and protections to working families – is inexplicably short-sighted and wildly deficient. The Administration’s actions are directly jeopardizing the Constitution’s core requirements for a complete and accurate Census.”
