    Joy Reid:
“Medical experts warn of 2nd wave of Covid infections this fall…
but still no national strategy from the Trump White House. For months Donald Trump claimed the Coronavirus would just “disappear”. But as we near the end of Summer that has clearly really not been the case.
From Memorial Day to Labor Day, the United States saw the number of cases almost quadruple from 1.6 million to more than 6.3 million cases. And the number of Americans who have died almost doubled from just under 100,000 to more than 190,000. The latest projections are dire.
And show that the number of deaths could reach 400,00. Four hundred thousand by the end of the year!!
This comes as students get back to school, with heightened concerns that those attending in-person classes, could cause and even more catastrophic spread of the virus.”

    • September 9, 2020 at 2:32 pm

Dr. Lipi Roy, internal medical physician, speaks with Joy Reid:
Reid: “Parents are afraid. They’re sending their kids back to school. In a lot of cases it’s in-person.
How worried should people be given what we see happening, particularly on College campuses that are in some cases are sending kids home because of outbreaks?”
      Dr. Roy:
“There is concern, and frankly I think it is a legitimate concern.
We’ve already seen many many cases from schools across the country. From elementary schools right up to universities, where we’re seeing just huge outbreaks of cases amongst children and college age students. So there is concern amongst parents because there again and we’ve talked about this before, no clear plan. There’s no national strategy. All the different communities are left to their own devices to try to figure this out. Which is really so chaotic and it’s irresponsible. We need to stop playing Russian roulette with our children’s lives. We know that children get sick with this novel Coronavirus. And now that fall is here, we know that respiratory viruses including influenza are going to be peaking. So we need to actually take action here.”

    • September 9, 2020 at 2:35 pm

Reid: “And what about this idea of a vaccine?
Donald Trump is still kind of promoting that there’ll be a vaccine. There’s been some push back from drug companies that say ‘woah – we’re not going to put anything out there unless it’s been properly tested’. Is it even possible for a vaccine to have been thoroughly and properly tested to be safe by Election Day?”
      Dr. Roy:
“Random date of Election Day, yeh! Look I’m a doctor, I’m a public health advocate.
I’m a big, big advocate for prevention, preventive health. And vaccinations, immunizations fall into the category of prevention. I just got my own flu shot last week. I recommend it for all people. Here’s the thing though with Coronavirus and the vaccines, the multiple candidates that are out there. NONE of them have completed Phase 3 Trials. And remember that’s the large phase that looks at 30,000 to 40,000 people. But it’s not just the number Joy. It’s the time line. You have to look at the the effect of this new medication this vaccine, over time. Because you may not see an adverse effect at 30, 40 days. But you might in six months, in twelve months, in eighteen months. It could be a neurologic, cardiac, auto immune rheumatologic side effect. So that’s the concern Joy. And right now NONE of the vaccine candidates have completed that necessary Phase 3 which can take years, to be honest.
At least one or two years.”

  4. September 9, 2020 at 2:46 pm

Dr. Lipi Roy to Joy Reid: “We need to stop playing Russian roulette with our children’s lives.”
—imo children are easy Trump sacrifices.

I can’t begin to explain how bizarre this day is in California. This is what it looks like in SF right now, almost noon and no daylight due to the fires raging up and down the state. It’s like being is a very disturbing zombie apocalypse, out of our control and very disturbing.

  7. September 9, 2020 at 3:12 pm

Ms. E. Jean Carroll speaking about Trump’s alleged rape:
“It hurt. And it was against my will….I think I was stomping my foot…somehow I got my knee up and pushed him back and the minute he backed up I was out the door.” She told two women friends about what happened right away. Trump, as always, said he’d never met E Jean Carroll. She is sueing Trump for defamation.
Hayes: “And now the DOJ, the agency that is supposed to enforce law ensuring public safety, is preparing to defend the President in his rape accuser’s defamation suit.”

    • September 9, 2020 at 3:16 pm

A court filing at the Department said that Trump was: “Acting within the scope of his office as President of the United States when he publicly denied as ‘false’ the allegations made by plaintive”.

Harry Litman, Former Deputy Assistant Attorney General, Department of Justice, speaks with Hayes:
Hayes: “Harry what is going on here?”
“It’s sort of tough sledding legally Chris, but what you say is exactly right.
The Department of Justice says ‘He was acting in the scope of employment’. And that means the suit that’s against him personally – oh it’s really against the Department of Justice = ‘We can take it over now’.
And guess what? The punchline is the United States gets to choose who can sue it and for what. And the law says it cannot be sued for defamation. So if they can prevail on this argument the suit is over.
ON THE OTHER HAND this isn’t just one of those things that Bill Barr can just decide whatever he says. Because the Supreme Court has held that the Department is going to have to prove to the Federal Court (they’ve brought the case now from state court into federal court). But they’re going to have to prove to the Federal Court that Trump was acting in the ‘scope of employment’. They site some cases, but the cases are really not on point. There are cases in which federal employees were talking about federal matters, news, etcetera, not Trump talking about this personal accusation. And basically they’re saying “Anything the President does, that’s public business.” But it’s not. We know that already from Bill Clinton among others.”

    • September 9, 2020 at 3:18 pm

Hayes: “My sense is that in State Court they were losing. They were kind of back on their heels.
They had a bunch of judgements against them that were sort of allowing the suit to go forward. And in fact the lawyer for E. Jean Carroll county this morning said this was a kind of Hail Mary. ‘Oh we’re losing in state court. Let’s pull this maneuver, where we pull it over to the Department of Justice. And you can’t sue the U.S. for defamation. Ergo, no law suit. That’s the trick. But has the DOJ ever done this before for a president? In the spectrum of normal to abnormal where is this?”
“Well as always, we already start with the abnormal just because of Trump’s own conduct.
There’s only been a couple of suits ever alleging this kind of civil harm by a President. It starts with Clinton v Jones. What you say though is exactly right. They were at the point of DISASTER for Trump because there was going to be a deposition in state court. New York State Court. And that’s complete bedlam and peril for him. Now Bill Barr can move it to federal court but he can’t keep it there. Here’s the rub though: Probably it takes a few months for it to work its way up for the courts, not just the District Court, to say ‘This isn’t Trump acting in scope of employment. This is Trump doing something personal.’ Defaming a woman saying “She’s not my type”. That’s not what New York State law – the law has to be is this what the President is employed to do? It’s a little weird with the President. No ’s not employed to call people liars and say “She’s not my type”. This is not what the President does as part of his duties.”

    • September 9, 2020 at 3:21 pm

Hayes: “So you think on the merits he’s got a tough case.
But like everything that Trump does in the courts as far as I can tell, everything is just kicking the can. And if you kick the can long enough, as John Maynard Keynes said “In the long run we’re all dead”. If you can just live another day and get through the election…and get through next week…and get through and next month. He’s done it with Mueller and a million different contractor he’s stiffed. Who knows maybe you can wriggle out of it. So you’re saying this is essentially a delay tactic.”
“Yes, so basically what’s going to happen is it’ll go to the District Court. And Carroll will say ‘He wasn’t in the scope of employment’. And I think the District Court will rule for him. But then the next move of the Department of Justice, Court of Appeals, appeal to the Supreme Court. Now if Trump is re-elected it won’t work. But if he’s not, like so many other things, he has run out the clock. However again this is going to be in the hands not of a new Department of Justice, but of peril. He can run out the clock, but still he’ll have to face justice whether he’s President or not, because that’s what a private person – Carroll – is doing.”

I find it outrageous some of the information that people sit on that comes out when they are pimping their books. This information about Covid-19 — as deadly as it is — should have been made public back when it was first revealed. How many more people would have taken it seriously had they known that there was audio evidence that 1) tRump KNEW how serious this virus is and 2) he deliberately downplayed it?!?!?!?!

“This is deadly stuff,” the president repeated for emphasis.
At that time, Trump was telling the nation that the virus was no worse than a seasonal flu, predicting it would soon disappear and insisting that the U.S. government had it totally under control.
Trump knew the coronavirus was serious and deadly, but he did nothing to prepare the public, launch a national testing program, and take steps to keep the country safe.
Donald Trump knew how bad it could get, and he still let Americans needlessly die.”

You know, if a porn star slept with Trump and kept it a secret only to write about it in a book after he got elected President. I’d be like, whatever, she’s a porn star and she gets paid to have sex on film yada yada yada. But if I’m Bob Woodward, an ass-steamed journalist of the highest integrity and morality. I’d make it my business to run and tell the world about Trump’s moral depravity as soon as I exited the Whitehouse. I wouldn’t hold on to that information that I knew could possibly save thousands of lies. Bob Woodward, you fucking cool-hearted ass-kissing rotted piece of shit, you asshole you. Lives were lost and the only thing you cared about was getting your Viagra-abled jimmy waxed at some goddamn Washington dinner party by some young up and coming beat reporter that worships the ground you walk on.

Pretty damn stunning, isn’t it? This is what white privilege look like. HE was fine… I’m absolutely disgusted and livid about the entire world around me right now. My blood boils on a daily basis and I barely recognize myself because of my rage. This fucking SOB needs to be voted out in the worst landslide in recorded history and the hammer of justice needs to come down on every last one of these traitors and murders. I mean every damn one of them! As we see, they care nothing about their country, nothing about people or property or morals or laws or values. They care about power. That is the ONLY thing they care about. They are unfit and dangerous and I pray that we can hold it together till the end of this nightmare. Each passing day gets exponentially worse, IMO.
My friends and countrymen along the west coast, stay safe.. no one will come for you, he won’t help…. states will help but we don’t have much either. I know brave firefighters from AZ are helping out in CA…. Make a plan. Another plan. Your lives depend on it. You are all in my thoughts.

      • September 10, 2020 at 9:47 am

Thank you, df. I’m feeling the same way you do. These fires are just so horrible. I don’t know how our firefighters can go on. They are just so fucking brave and we all just have to hope with every fiber of our being for some relief. I am FULL of rage and sorrow, among the worst feelings imaginable. We MUST find a way OUT of this hell.

❤️❤️❤️ Honestly, I’m beside myself. The thought of these monster fires burning down such beautiful states… the people, the livelihoods, the animals, the memories. Gone.
It just is so hard to watch….. and add the virus and the traitors to the mix and I swear if we don’t vote and get ourselves squared away, and soon… those fires will become a metaphor for the country.

          • September 10, 2020 at 10:58 am

Precisely. I just feel on the brink of tears throughout these days, at a loss for how to cope with so much devastation everywhere. And I think what really drives me crazy is that half of Congress, most of the media and 35% of the populace believe Trump is the greatest. It’s so fucking crazymaking and SICK.

      Dumb question…

With the plot and actions by tRump and Company to slow down/disrupt the mail and doing all they can to sow chaos in the election process, many who are planning to vote absentee/by-mail have already determined that they will cast their ballots early…no last minute voting… and using drop boxes where available. That being said, I suspect that there will be large numbers of mail-in ballots received by election offices way in advance of November 3rd.

[Now the dumb question] Do they sit on the ballots until closer to election day or are the votes tabulated as they are received? The only reason I can see to delay counting is to in effect slow down the count on election night. [History, especially RECENT history, has made me more of a cynic these days.]

Not to discount the information released that indicts tRump — and all those in his administration who most likely had this information — as the murderer he is

It’s just disheartening to think about all those who let this go on for as long as it has without raising flags. That includes the scientists and doctors who seemed willing to tarnish their credibility and reputations in support of the Orange Oval Office Occupant.
