Letetra Widman, sister of Jacob Blake, and lawyer Ben Crump, speak to Joy Reid:
Reid:
“Your comments after what happened to your brother, I think were so profound You kind of taught a class in two and a half minutes. And so I just want to commend you just for the way that you expressed the rage that a lot of people feel. I wonder what you make of the fact that Donald Trump came to Kenosha today. Your uncle Justin said it was not necessary for what he called “the orange man to talk to your family”. Do you agree or disagree?
Or do you think Donald Trump should have tried to connect with you guys?”
Widman:
“Well number one, my main interest is seeking justice for my brother. So I’m only interested in talking to people about that issue. I want to see really change and reform in the policies and if that’s not the subject matter, then I mean really is none of my concern. He is the president of this country. He’s going to handle whatever business he is going to handle in Kenosha, and if it’s not about my brother and getting justice for all of the African American people….and if it’s not about getting justice, it really isn’t any of my concern.”
Reid: “In the Joe Biden campaign booklet is they want to do something about police reform if he is elected president. Would you want to talk to Joe Biden if he came to Kenosha?”
Widman:
“I only want to talk to people that are truly interested in reform. So if Joe Biden is interested in that, then we can have a conversation. That’s not a problem. I want to do any and everything I possibly can to make sure that my brother being shot seven times in his back, then lose all of his lower functioning in vain, this has to stop.”
Reid:
“Let’s talk about the people who are directly involved in law enforcement and in what would be or should be seeking justice for your brother, for your family. David Beth, he was at that law enforcement roundtable. There’s been a lot of Black Lives Matter opposition to him. Here he is talking today with Donald Trump: “Thank you for being the president that likes law enforcement. On behalf of law enforcement, I’m telling you the group that’s here, I hope you could feel the love that they have for you and everybody how came.”
For people who don’t know who this man is, this is someone who in 2017 said, “Some people aren’t worth saving”. And after five people were arrested for shop lifting, he said that they should be locked up in warehouses. Build warehouses and lock them away for the rest of their lives! That’s who this guy is.
Do you trust law enforcement in Kenosha, as led by Sheriff Beth, to seek justice for your family?”
Widman:
“Well I can’t put a question to law enforcement as a whole, being an African American woman who has been brutalized by police myself…when they come to a situation that they should be de-escalating. Instead they turn to violence. And I’ve seen that happen in plenty of situations where they needed to, all of my life. And so there is a disconnect of trust within African American people and police because of how we are treated on a daily basis. I’m not a criminal. And I get racially profiled all the time. I’m actually anything but a criminal. I’m young, I’m educated, I’m a business owner, and I still experience that. Maybe not on the level that my brother now has. But this is something that’s been a problem in our country for a long time. And Trump nor Biden is the solution or the problem. This is a problem that has been ongoing for so many years and we all know that. But we want to try to keep pointing the finger at these couple of people, when it’s going to take our country as a whole to put a stop to this.”
Reid:
“Letetra is absolutely right. There is a long term problem. But let’s talk about the short term problem for just a moment, which is you know that Donald Trump is the president. He is setting tone. And law enforcement is very very supportive of him. Because he is very very supportive of them, no matter what happens. Here he is talking about whether or not he had a message for Jacob Blake’s family today:
“I feel terribly for anybody that goes through that. As you know it’s under investigation. It’s a big thing happening right now. I guess it’s under local investigation. I hope they come up with the right answer. It’s a complicated subject to be honest with you.” I mean he is sort of claiming he doesn’t have any power now. But he also tried to claim that he sent the National Guard to Kenosha – when he didn’t. It’s hard to tell whether or not he thinks he is powerful enough to do anything about this. But do you think that a federal intervention can actually start to change the way that police behave, or do you think that it’s got to be at a local level, just given all your experience…?”
Widman:
“It does have to start locally. But if the local police cannot handle the situation, or are not dealing with the situation appropriately then yes, then obviously someone else needs to step in.”
Reid: “Ben your thoughts on that as well?”
Crump:
“Historically Joy, it has always been the federal government to come in even during the civil right’s days with Martin Luther King and John Lewis, when the locals would not give equal justice under the law to Black people. Then the Federal Government would do it. But right now the person who we have in office, it seems that there is NOTHING that the Federal Government will hold law enforcement accountable for. They support them even when you have something as outrageous…being shot seven times in the back. And so we need the systematic reform that we talk about with the Justice In Policing Act, Joy that you know so much about. Because you’ve studied the issues. And until we get these reforms, I agree with Latetra.
Until we get these reforms we’re going to keep seeing hashtag after hashtag after hashtag.”

BREONNA
Alicia Garza, Principle to the Black to the Future Action Fund, Ash-Lee Woodard Henderson, Co-Executive Director of the Highlander Center, speak to Joy Reid.
Reid:
“I want to really quickly turn for a moment Alicia to the new developments in the Breonna Taylor case.
We did learn yesterday that according to court records, Ms. Taylor’s ex-boyfriend, his name is Jamarcus Glover, was actually offered a reduced sentence IF he would agree to implicate Breonna in his own alleged drug trafficking. He insisted that Breonna Taylor had nothing to do with it, was completely innocent.
He rejected the plea deal. The current boyfriend (sound breaks off)…Kenneth Walker…is suing the Louisiana Police Department claiming he sustained lifelong trauma and still feels harm from the Department. And Alicia he probably should fear harm, right? If you have law enforcement officials trying to force Breonna Taylor’s ex-boyfriend to implicate her, after she’s been killed in a crime. So that basically the officers would seem justified in busting down her door and SHOOTING her – it sounds like her boyfriend at the time she died should be worried. What do you make of those developments Alicia?”
Garza:
“Well frankly it breaks my heart. And one of the things that we see in this of course is that the casualty here was a Black woman, who was just beginning a new life. She was somebody who cared for her younger sister and for an infant godchild. She was somebody who was an EMT. And somebody who was an essential worker in this pandemic season. Breonna Taylor was someone who deserved to be alive right now. And as my family Ashley just said, you know these are not new tactics that we have seen from law enforcement. But unfortunately what we are seeing is a lack of leadership from the leaders in this country, who have frankly a responsibility to set the tone for what accountability needs to look like in this country. As well as what it needs to look like to make sure that there are no more Breonna Taylors. That there are no more Jacob Blakes. That there are no more Tony McDades. And the list goes on and on.”
Gaza:
“You know our country is hurting right now and we need leadership that can sow this country back together. And right now the person who is in office is doing everything he can to not only stir up fear and division between people who share a common vision for Black Lives Matter, including Breonna Taylor’s life. But he is also sending a signal that you know, there actually are some people who are above law and order.”
Gaza:
“This president has said that he is all about law and order. But what he actually means is he is law and order for some and not for others. He’s done everything he can to essentially turn Black Lives Matter into Hillary’s emails. And now, we’re in a moment where our country could be led toward healing. And he’s continuing to try to lead us backwards and dismantle every single victory that so many of us from the 1960’s on, have marched for and fought for. And so again I have to say that my heart breaks for Breonna Taylor. But this is not a new tactic from law enforcement.”
Reid: “I keep thinking I’ve lost the ability to be shocked, but this is pretty shocking.”

“It turns out there’s a strong possibility the president got suckered by a months-old internet rumor that’s been making the rounds among right-wing paranoid Facebook users,” MSNBC’s Chris Hayes said Tuesday night.
NBC News reporter Ben Collins detailed the flood of social media rumors that have drawn heavily armed groups to downtowns across the country to battle antifa attacks that never materialized. “Look, its really easy to laugh at this whole idea that, like, antifa is taking over an airline,” wearing identifying tattoos and dressed in uniform, Collins said, “but this is corrupting the intelligence pipeline to the president.”
“Trump told Ingraham (Fox) on Monday that people “in the dark shadows” were controlling Joe Biden
and that “thugs” wearing “black uniforms with gear and this and that” had flown to Washington, D.C., over the weekend to cause damage. “Lacking details, the fantastical tale took on the wild, conspiratorial tone of a subversive Reddit subchannel or a foreign government’s disinformation campaign,” David Nakamura notes at The Washington Post. Not only were the uniformed antifa “looters” now traveling from Washington “to wherever,” not to Washington, the details were secret because Trump hadn’t gotten permission from the purported first-hand witness, not because they are “under investigation.” The president’s story, in fact, closely resembles a Facebook post from an Idaho man who falsely claimed June 1 that a plane full of black-clad Seattle antifa guys had landed in Boise to attack downtown and residential areas.”

I often wonder when they (GOP) claim to be pro-life etc etc etc, somehow are not getting some kind of thrill in watching people suffer through life, be it lack of basic medical coverage for all … not doing everything possible to control a pandemic and avoiding so many deaths.
They SAY they are pro-life, but their ACTIONS indicate otherwise.
"Listen, white people: Black people will not treat you like you’ve treated us. We won’t enslave you. We won’t set up Jimmy Crow. We won’t redline or suppress your votes. We won’t shoot your kids who hold toy guns."
I’m sorry but I just can’t go along with that, it isn’t in me. I mean White people foisted up us Bill Murry and Chevy Chase and told us that they were really really funny. The next time these two make us laugh will be the first time they’ve made us laugh.

Trump sowing discord across the country….
Congressman Mark Pocan (WI) speaks with Chris Hayes.
Hayes:
“As someone who is from Kenosha and knows it well…what was your reaction to the president going there?”
Congressman Pocan:
“Well, we were very concerned because what the town needs right now are conciliatory remarks,
unifying remarks, remarks that recognize an African American man was shot seven times in the back in front of his children. And then a Trump supporting vigilante killed two protestors. And yet you don’t see any of that recognition coming from this president. What you see is him trying to use it as a political tool to talk about ‘law and order’. When in reality, in Donald Trump’s America, we have chaos and disorder because that’s exactly what Donald Trump wants. He wants people to think he’s the only one who can fix it. And in reality, what happened here is largely due to the president’s rhetoric over the last three and a half years.”
Hayes: “What do you mean by that?”
Congressman Pocan:
“The president has been baiting every racist, every vigilante, militia.
He seems to support anyone who stands for this narrow view that Donald Trump has and his supporters have, of America. The trouble is that doesn’t include African Americans, or Latinos, and women,
and you know just about anyone else that doesn’t fit this very cookie cutter definition of what the president wants to say is America, or at least his supporters in America. He’s never tried to unify the country like every other president. You know once you’re elected, as Joe Biden said, you represent everyone, even the people who don’t vote for you. And Donald Trump has never done that in the three and a half years he’s been president! He just continues to race bait and use that type of rhetoric to fan the flames of hatred.”
Congressman Pocan:
“And what we see in the gentleman who shot two people –
you know just so you know my Mother is 91. Her best friend who recently passed was the grandmother of one of those people that were shot, Anthony Huber. You know this is a small town still and when a thing happens you really realize it. Chris the fire that took down the building Danish Brotherhood (Lodge), the building next door is where my Mom and Dad had their businesses where the roof is gone and partially burned…so you know the connections to Kenosha are very close and people in Kenosha are really good-hearted people. They’re not hyper political. And for the president to come and just use a political message about ‘law and order’ when he’s the one who has created this kind of chaos and disorder, just shows how out of touch he is. He wasn’t prepared for the job when got elected. He’s still not prepared for the job – and that’s why we need a change.”
Hayes:
“I’m curious how this is all filtered through the local media there…there’s 25 buildings that have suffered some damage in Kenosha…looting…there’s Jacob Blake who is still in the hospital…there are 2 men shot and killed allegedly by that 17 year old who came from out of state to do it. There’s a lot of pain and destruction in that city in Kenosha. How has that been filtering to your constituents, to folks in Wisconsin? How are you hearing people talking about it…when you talk to people that you represent?”
Congressman Pocan:
“I think it is just a concern about this president. That he seems to love chaos.
Whether it be the chaos that he’s created around not dealing with COVID-19, and the fact that our state can’t get testing supplies and PPE in order to be where we should be, protesting. The chaos that he’s created by 100,000 small businesses who have closed down because he hasn’t handled COVID. The chaos he has created around racial tensions. I mean these are all things that he seems to thrive in. But people in Wisconsin don’t. You know we thrive in taking care of families, you know making sure you can pay your mortgage, support your family, take a family vacation. That’s what we are. We’re really common people just like most people across the country. And what Donald Trump’s about is very political. It’s this messaging. And this chaos again, that he just creates over and over. And I think people in Wisconsin are more worried about armed vigilantes and militia walking streets, than they are about his manufactured ‘people who are out to tear apart our communities’. The people who are tearing apart our communities are largely urged and encouraged by president trump. And that’s the problem.”

So glad that they are well, happy, and firing on all cylinders. Such a brilliant piece!
Keep on keeping on, John Boyega. We’re rooting for you!
This is really beautiful and moving.

This is revolting to me. Nothing to be prideful of. Pro life. My ass.
Reverend Barber: Necro politics and the politics of Death.
CHILDREN are still at the top of Trump’s killing list.
–Then maybe trans people.
–in order of vulnerability.
Good. Keep pushing hard
I’m sorry but I just can’t go along with that, it isn’t in me. I mean White people foisted up us Bill Murry and Chevy Chase and told us that they were really really funny. The next time these two make us laugh will be the first time they’ve made us laugh.
Another good day
Totally agree. He doesn’t have to fake it. He’s just being himself, and people are remembering what normal looks like, slowly but surely.
Just be Joe, Joe. The rest is up to us.
Keep smiling, everybody!

The rags across the pond and the trolls are still serving up the usual trash and lies while this so-called irrelevant couple is out here living their best lives, finding freedom indeed. What happened to Meghan should but a resounding “the end” on the princess dream that too many little (and not so little) girls have had fostered by Disney. How much better it is to be a talented, brilliant, and strong woman who has her own life; one who is loved by a man who knew that he had to “up his game” to win her and defied a nation and a centuries-old tradition to marry her and to leave it all to have the life they wanted and deserved.
Much better:)

Laurie Garrett, former senior fellow for global health and Pulitzer prize-winning journalist, and Chris Hayes discuss the latest CDC move that could undermine a COVID-19 vaccine.
“Definitely not.”
Dr. Vin Gupta speaks to Joy Reid:
On reports that the CDC is notifying states to be prepared for a vaccine by end of October, early November,
Dr. Vin Gupta says “Definitely not are we going to have a vaccine by the end of October, early November.
And making the American public think that’s a reasonable expectation is just going to loosen,
lower our guard.”
