Vote for change. This absolutely must stop and it must stop NOW. The killing of black and brown human beings , because the men with guns are afraid, and assume, must stop. This human target practice must end now.

    Here’s another shooting that’s not being noticed…yet

    The shooting
Police were responding to a routine disturbance call Friday when they attempted to arrest Pellerin at a gas station in Lafayette. He walked away from them, and they followed him on foot for almost half a mile to another gas station. Officers even tasered Pellerin, who continued to walk away.

As a group of roughly six Lafayette police officers came up behind him, Pellerin reached for the station’s door and officer’s fired a blast of bullets. Officers said he had a knife.

THIS IS THE FIRST COMMENTS MADE BY THE MAYOR: “The officers opened fire when it became apparent the armed individual was attempting to enter a convenience store, threatening the lives of the customers and workers inside,” Guillory said in a written statement issued almost 24 hours after the killing occurred.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with our community tonight, and with the men and women in uniform who put their lives on the line every day to keep us safe,” he said then.”

LeBron is really upset. He was just showing a small glimpse of the frustration and fear that is inside us black people. We may look calm, but, we’re not. We are developing PTSD from the constant killings of our brothers and sisters.

    Good Evening TODVille.

On the recent murder of another Black man, my heart aches for him, for his dad and sister who spoke today. I applaud LeBron James because he speaks out when he sees what is immoral and wrong. I hope the police officers is arrested very soon.——

As for the upcoming elections, I let myself hope just a little. Why? Because I remain encouraged by what I see, what I read, what has been reported on the mood of the country about the direction and lack of leadership in this country. Even though the same could have been said in 2016, the wind is blowing differently, at least as reported by my senses.

This country cannot continue with this man in the WH whose lies have now become the norms for other politicians with no morals. Staying the course will certainly take us all down the drain. I will welcome anyone who is voting against him out of principles. While I know that many anti-Trump Republicans will quickly revert to criticizing a Biden/Harris administration on everything, even do a repeat of what was done to PBO by blocking all Biden
s attempts at governing, I still welcome their help in getting that Orange mistake out!

I am watching the ongoing, concurrent Convention by the Founding Principles which is a hub of all these disgruntled Republicans and must say that some of the speeches are quite good. A good alternative to watching the RNC.

    GOP LIEFEST = right now.
The Vice President of the Navajo Nation is speaking.
Why is he lying? Find out!
Trump deprived Navajo Nation of the cash allocated to them for Covid,
and a high disproportion of that group of Native Americans died because Trump would not release it to them.
The Cares Act provided $8 Billion when it should have been $20 Billion.
And after many weeks went by…only $4 Billion was released. Too late
Have reported on Navajo Nation frequently.

How often have we heard that something he, his family, or people in his administration did was a violation of the Hatch Act? Was he ever even challenged for doing it? Just validated for him that he can do whatever he wants. If challenged, the damage has been done and he would have already gotten what he wanted.

Donald Trump Jr and Eric Trump continue to run the president’s business.
    Rachel Maddow:
“Which means they are in the news today in a way that is inconvenient given the timing of this Convention-like thing tonight. The Attorney General Letitia James has now announced that she’s investigating the Trump family business for misleading financial lenders allegedly, by inflating the value of the business’ assets. This investigation into the Trump Organization has been plodding along for more than a year, since the president’s longtime Attorney Michael Cohen told Congress, that the president’s business routinely lied about the value of its assets to reduce their taxes, or to get bank loans or insurance policies. It appears though, that that investigation has come to an interesting point. Because a legal filing that became public today, shows the Attorney General asking a Judge to force the Trump Organization to turn over documents to respond to subpoenas, and she’s also asking a Judge to order the president’s son Eric to answer questions under oath about the family business. So far, we learned today Eric has refused to answer questions from the AG’s office about the investigation. Hundreds of documents have been withheld by the Trump Organization in the course of this. And that makes it awkward, that the two people in charge of the Trump family business are preparing for their primetime addresses to the nation this week at their Dad’s presidential nominating convention.”

    • August 26, 2020 at 9:40 am

Andrew Weissmann, former chief of the fraud section at the Justice Department,
fmr senior member of Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation, currently professor, NYU Law, spoke with Rachel Maddow:
“So we are used to hearing about a lot of overlapping investigations of the president and his businesses. When it comes to the NY Attorney General’s Office, we have seen the New York Attorney General’s office bring a fraud suit against Trump University, shut it down, and a $25 million settlement was paid. We’ve seen the NY AG’s office bring a fraud suit against the president’s charity, shut it down, and the president had to pay $2 million in damages there. Now the Attorney General’s office is engaged in some sort of civil suit involving the president’s business. How serious is it, and why did it come into public view the way it did today?”

    • August 26, 2020 at 9:41 am

“So this seems very serious. First though it’s important to know this is civil fraud case. It’s not a criminal fraud case. Although as the Attorney General said, it could become that. And if you look at the allegations and the filing, they could not be more serious. This is not just sort of hiding income. There are allegations that Eric Trump and the Trump Organization were responsible for not reporting a hundred million dollars in income ($100,000,000) and inflating deductions to the tune of forty-six million dollars ($46,000,000).
In properties in Westchester, in Chicago, in Los Angeles, across the country. So could not be more serious in terms of what it is that the Attorney General is looking at.”

    • August 26, 2020 at 9:43 am

“And there is also a criminal case involving the president’s business filed by the New York DA.
That’s also in process, with the federal judge ruling last week that a subpoena for the president’s financial information and tax information was basically green lit. The president has appealed back to the 2nd Circuit. Everybody expecting that the Supreme Court might ultimately be ruling on that. Might be considering whether it needs to respond to that subpoena in very short order, potentially this week during the RNC. What should we understand about that timing, and whether or not these things should be viewed as two separate problems for the president, or whether they might come together as one threat?”

    • August 26, 2020 at 9:45 am

“So I think they’re coming together. You can see it in the filing today. Eric Trump is notable in the filing today, that he refused to testify in the New York Attorney General’s suit, saying that he was very concerned about whether his testimony would be used in the New York criminal case. And the Attorney General said no we’re not coordinating with them. But clearly, by his refusing to what he said cutely, was not testify under the Constitution, that’s code for… as he clearly is worried about what it is that the New York District Attorney, the criminal side, is doing. So you have somebody who is going to be giving apparently a speech tonight at a Convention, who is refusing to testify either in the state criminal case, presumably, and also the state civil case.”

      Ms. Jackson:
“No I don’t. I know that Jacob called me earlier that morning. He and Israel (sp?) whose birthday it was on that day, were picking out toys and other things for his birthday party. Outside of that I know nothing.”
“And Ben, you know for a lot of people the whole thing seems murky.
It’s very difficult to understand how things would escalate to the point where an officer would get so close to an unarmed man and just begin shooting him. Have police explained from their point of view, what happened and why he was shot? Why Jacob Blake was shot.”

Julia Jackson, Mother of Jacob Blake,
and Attorney Benjamin Crump speak to Joy Reid:
Reid: “Can you give us any of the latest updates on Mr. Blake and how he is doing?”
Ms. Jackson: “He is currently still in surgery.”
Reid: “I mentioned towards the end here that the Justice Department has said that they’re going to get involved in the case. Have you heard from anyone at the Justice Department so far?”
    Attorney Crump:
“We have not. The Governor’s office has reached out, but we have heard nothing from the Department of Justice.”

    • August 26, 2020 at 12:12 pm

Reid: “So the Governor’s office reached out, and what did the Governor’s office say that they are willing to do for the family?”
      Attorney Crump:
“At this point they haven’t gone into that aspect. But Ms. Jackson is very grateful to the Governor’s assistance, for cutting through the red tape so she could visit her son in the hospital. Because initially, her and her pastor were turned away at the door.”
      Reid: “Were turned away?”
      Attorney Crump: “Yes.”

    • August 26, 2020 at 12:13 pm

“Can you describe how police treated family, because one of the things that that’s so jarring Ms. Jackson when you look at the video, is the fact that you can see that members of the family or the other people that were there. There were witnesses all around. You could hear people screaming really close to the police officer when the shots rang out. What did police say to your family members? What did they say to your children? Did they try to comfort them? Did they say anything to the family at that time?”
      Ms. Jackson:
“I wasn’t there obviously. So I can’t really say exactly what was said or wasn’t said.”

    • August 26, 2020 at 12:15 pm

Reid: “Did your family members indicate that the police had any explanation for what was happening? Or have you heard that they said anything to your family members?”
      Ms. Jackson: “No, oh no.”
      Attorney Crump:
“No. Not at all Joy. But what we have heard is that the person who videotaped the encounter, the police harassed that individual. And that’s a trend Joy as you know. And George Floyd, that young lady who was family was targeted as well. So what is wrong with transparency?”
Reid: “And your grandchildren were there? Am I correct?”
Ms. Jackson: “Three of them yes. Three of Jacob’s sons.”
Reid: “And how are they doing tonight?”
      Ms. Jackson:
“As to be expected tonight. And asking a lot of questions about their Dad. They want to see him. And they tell me “Grandma the police shot my Dad, why?” And I have no answers.”

    • August 26, 2020 at 12:16 pm

Reid: “How did your grandkids, if you know the answer to that, in general feel about police before this happened? What were their impressions of police?”
      Ms. Jackson:
“Well even when I was raising my children up…I was taught as a child to be officer-friendly.
So I do that with my grandchildren as well. I can’t really tell you how they feel inside at that age. They are very young. I want it to be known that I have the utmost respect for our police departments. And I don’t believe that all police officers are monsters, or anything like that. There’s a few bad apples in every walk of life who make bad decisions. And they have a horrible job and it’s scary, I get that. I just wish there was more training, more something that they would choose better like how to defuse a situation. Instead of shooting people when it’s not necessary. In some cases it may be necessary. But in this case and several others, it was not. So just for the record, I’m not trying to demonize police. I have some officers that I am very close to and have a good relationship with them.”
Attorney Crump: “And you all prayed together at the hospital.”
Ms. Jackson: “Yes, we did. We had a nice conversation. And all of the officers that assisted me and escorted me up to Jacob’s room were phenomenal.”

      • August 26, 2020 at 12:58 pm

Reid: “Do you know the details of what Jacob was trying to do when police arrived? A lot of people are wondering how this began. Do you know the details of what sort of a dispute he was trying to intervene in? And what was he doing before this shooting took place?”
        Ms. Jackson:

Have police explained from their point of view, what happened and why he was shot? Why Jacob Blake was shot.”

    • August 26, 2020 at 12:20 pm

      Attorney Crump:
“They have not Joy. And what they have said is ‘Don’t rush to judgement, we have to put it all in context’. And that is so shocking Joy, because they always use a video when there is a person of color who is accused of something nefarious, they say ‘Well, we have video’. And now that we have video, the police doing something, shooting a man seven times in his back at point blank range when he’s going away from them – they say ‘Don’t rush to judgement’. Even though they rushed and shot him! And why is it, Joy Reid that the video is not enough? We SAW what happened. The video speaks for itself. And these officers should be held accountable. Her son should not should not be lying in surgery fighting for his life.”

    • August 26, 2020 at 12:21 pm

Reid: “Last question Ms. Jackson. Do you want to see the officer arrested?”
      Ms. Jackson:
“Most definitely. I’m sorry that all of this is happening. There has to be some serious consequences.
When we make bad decisions, there’s consequences. No matter who you are.”

Marq Claxton, retired NYPD detective, Director of the Black Law Enforcement Alliance speaks to Joy Reid
on the brutal police shooting of innocent and unarmed Jacob Blake.
    Joy Reid:
“Mark, I think for a lot of people it’s very difficult to understand how supposedly professionally trained police officers can get to the point, where in a crowded area with lots of people watching, with witnesses, with people screaming right near by, would feel comfortable shooting a man multiple times in the back. It doesn’t sound to me like anything any police office would be trained or allowed to do. But they do it. Can you give us some explanation as to how this possibly could have happened?”

    • August 26, 2020 at 1:20 pm

      Marq Claxton:
“I think it’s wise to start off and say if only police officers felt a sense of compassion and empathy,
and respect for humanity, for black and brown people, that Ms. Jackson showed towards police officers just now. We wouldn’t be in this predicament. What causes these incidents and how this happens is because of toxic police culture. A police culture that grants automatic absolution without the burden of confession or even acknowledgment of culpability. A police culture that cultivates an air of invincibility in police agencies and entities. Where police operate in a bubble where have no situational awareness. Who could imagine that in the midst of what we’re going through as a nation, discussions about the role of law enforcement and race as it pertains to law enforcement, that a police officer would engage in this level of brutality and alleged criminality towards an individual. In the midst of what were going through as a nation. That’s toxic police culture. Where the culture of policing subsumes humanity. It doesn’t allow you the breathing room for compassion or full understanding. It establishes and affirms Us against Them regardless of what’s happening across the nation.

    • August 26, 2020 at 1:21 pm

      Clip of Lebron James’ comment:
“We are scared as Black people in America, Black men, Black women, Black kids. If you watch the video, there are multiple moments where if they could’ve tackled him. They could have grabbed him. You know they could have done that. Why does it always have to get to a point where we see the guns firing?”
“It’s hard for I think most people to imagine, that if this had been a white gentleman that was being confronted on the street, that they wouldn’t have just tackled him. So can you answer that question? I mean it doesn’t sound to me like this is something…are police officers trained ‘skip the tackling and go ahead shoot him’? Is this what police officers are trained to do? Or is this something that you think is happening because they’re seeing a Black person reacting differently?”

    • August 26, 2020 at 1:23 pm

      Mr. Claxton:
“Too often and we see this time and time again. And this case is a clear example of it.
The mere presence of a Black person. The Black presence. The Black body is too often perceived as a threat to the officers. You have a situation here where BOTH officers had their guns unholstered, pointed towards Mr. Blake. Following him as he walked away. Both of them! At what point did they perceive him to be that level of a threat, when they were prepared and did actually use deadly physical force. You see it’s the mere presence of the Black body that these police officers react to. And it’s the mere presence of the Black body that is established as a threat to them. And that’s why these things escalate to the point, too often to fatalities. Thank god Mr. Blake has his life right now.”
Reid: “It’s hard to think of any other explanation.”
