    • August 14, 2020 at 12:25 pm

Absolutely NOTHING “well meaning” about undermining a fundamental institution and its oversight body. Another short-sighted stupid stunt by St. Bernie. UGH.

I always wondered about Sanders. I can’t say I am surprised, the far left imo want to ‘bern’ everything down … and consider the ‘establishment’ to be the issue. How is this helpful , to split the votes etc?
It will only ensure Repubs winning. Nothing wrong in wanting progressive change … work together to make the change, even if takes longer.

If he was on the ticket … he would be mighty regretful now.

Bernie successfully blocked Obama’s nominee, but was unsuccessful (or didn’t block) Trumps Nominee. The disrespect shown Obama was staggering. No allowance that Obama’s nominees would have been in the USPS best interests. No allowance for Obama’s consideration of options. Just a short sighted “finger” salute to Obama. And complete capitulation to Trump. What a POS.

“Four ways William Barr is already subverting the 2020 elections”
“Safeguarding the vote would be the top priority of a normal attorney general. It’s the opposite now.”
    “He’s letting off the hook those who contributed to interference in the last election;
    he’s undermining confidence in the government’s ability to protect the coming election;
he’s signaling to bad actors that helping President Trump win will garner them special treatment under the law; and he’s spreading disinformation about the potential for voter fraud.”

    • August 14, 2020 at 11:32 am

Trump diminishing public trust in serial ways, by continuous lying, by undermining the safety of the election, and our precious beloved USPS. We can fill out ballots at homes, if we get them. Take them to designated ballot drops, if they haven’t removed them. Or to mail boxes, if they have not been removed.
Or to the Courthouse, if open.
–Anyone asked Trump or Barr directly about their open election fraud?

“What the Nazis Learned from Jim Crow:
Author Isabel Wilkerson on the U.S. Racial Caste System”
In her extensively researched new book, “Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents,”
Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Isabel Wilkerson argues the United States’ racial hierarchy should be thought of as a caste system, similar to that in India. In a wide-ranging interview, she describes how she also looks at
the ways Nazi Germany borrowed from U.S. Jim Crow laws.”

    • August 14, 2020 at 11:46 am

“The Nazis needed no one to teach them how to hate,”
Wilkerson says. “But what they did was they sent researchers to the United States to study Jim Crow laws here in the United States, to study and to research how the United States had managed to subordinate and subjugate its African American population.”
      –evil under the microscope.

  17. August 14, 2020 at 12:34 pm

    1) “The USPS doesn’t belong to the Postmaster General, the Board of Governors, or even Donald Trump.
Trump can “task” all he wants- but he and his underlings can’t sell what they don’t own. The USPS was established by an Act of Congress. The new PMG and BOG may very well push for privatization- but they don’t have the legal authority to make it happen.
    2) Bottom line- privatizing the USPS would require a new Act of Congress.
That means that the same House of Representatives that just impeached Trump would have to approve the elimination of a couple hundred thousand union jobs with decent wages and benefits in every state and every House district in the country.”

    • August 14, 2020 at 12:35 pm

      Their plan:
“Once the new leadership is in place,
the board will also be tasked by the Trump administration with creating a package of large, structural changes intended to help the ailing Postal Service. Those changes will likely include privatizing and selling pieces of the public service off, according to the American Postal Workers Union (APWU), which represents more than 200,000 current and retired postal employees.”

    • August 14, 2020 at 12:35 pm

    President Obama:
‘Unheard of’ for Trump to try to ‘actively kneecap the postal service’
“In an interview with his former campaign manager David Plouffe, Obama said the GOP “for quite some time has actively tried to discourage people’s votes from counting in all kinds of ways, whether it’s voter ID laws or…blatant gerrymandering, [or] making it difficult for people in certain precincts to find their polling places.”
“What we’ve never seen before is a president say, ‘I’m going to try to actively kneecap the postal service to encourage voting, and I will be explicit about the reason I’m doing it,’” Obama said.
“That’s sort of unheard of, right? And we also have not had an election in the midst of a pandemic that is still deadly and killing a lot of people and…we still don’t know.”

    Rachel Maddow on Belarus:
“We’ve seen women in all white peacefully flooding the streets calling for the security forces to stop shooting, stop beating people. But what they’re doing to people that they’re taking inside these police stations and these police vans. These hostage style videos of people who have been beaten and injured, obviously terrified, in monotone renouncing their participation in the protests. BBC news has captured video of holding centers and these unmarked vans, where the visual part of the tape is essentially a static image. But you can hear in the audios people beaten, and screaming, and begging for their lives. This is happening this week. This is Europe! In 2020!
This is not a joke. This is not a game. This is happening right now. That country has got this terrible leader who has been in control of that country and its economy for 26 years. And he is now pulling out all of the stops to remain in power, and we see how violent that very quickly becomes.”

    • August 14, 2020 at 2:15 pm

“Authoritarianism means rule by force and not by law.
If you have power that’s what entitles you to keep power, under authoritarian rule. And corruption and authoritarianism always go hand in hand. Because if you rule by force and not by law, well there’s nothing to constrain you. There’s no such thing as legitimate opposition to you. And there’s no legitimate check or limit on your power within Government. And so if you’ve got authoritarian control, you turn the power of the state to your own purposes. Whether it’s making you, and your family, and your staff, and your cronies rich. Whether it’s using the power of the Government that you control to ensure that nobody else will ever be allowed to replace you at the top.”

    • August 14, 2020 at 2:17 pm

“I mean an example of that type of effort is to use the power of the prosecutors in your Government.
Use the power of the Justice Department in your Government to punish political enemies, to threaten political enemies. To bring trumped up investigations in prosecutions of your political enemies. And to reward and protect people who criminally cover up for you or do your dirty work. President Trump in a new interview with Fox Business, just chastised Attorney General William Barr for potentially being too politically correct to want to bring charges against the people who investigated the Russian attack on our last election to benefit him. He says he doesn’t want Bill Barr to be ‘too politically correct’ to do that, Bill Barr could be “one of the greats”….The president saying publicly he wants those charges brought, effectively.”

    • August 14, 2020 at 2:19 pm

“Using your current control of the Government to stay in power could also take the form of sabotaging the Postal Service. Block access to voting in your re-election effort when your re-election effort is being held in the midst of an out-of-control pandemic, which means people may not be able to vote safely any other way other than through the Postal Service. The president as of today is getting very, very blunt about the fact that he really is messing with the Postal Service on purpose to prevent them from being able to handle ballots in the election. I mean that is far-fetched right? But that is happening.”

    Rachel Maddow:
“There is a reason there’s no such thing as an ex-authoritarian leader, right?
Ex-dictator is not a job title. There’s no retirement plan for the Alexander Lukashenkos and the Vladimir Putins
of the world. There’s nothing else you can do after you’ve done that. If you’ve spent your time in power, your years in power undermining the democratic institutions of your country, rendering all opposition criminal, corrupting all profitable enterprise in your country, so that instead it is feeding you instead of your country’s economy. “

    • August 14, 2020 at 2:49 pm

“If you’ve spent your years in power defying any perspective transition of power away from you as a ‘revolution’ or a ‘coup’ that must be quelled with force. If you have used your time in office helping yourself to the spoils of state power, well practically speaking then – you have to stay in power!
Because if you ever left, unless some sympathetic or allied foreign power is going to spirit you away in the night and shelter you in exile. I mean if you ever leave power, the people in your country are going to find out everything you did. And they’re going to hold you to it. Especially if some of what brought you to power and some of what you did in power constitutes clear criminal behavior. I mean it’s nice I’m sure if you’re President, to have presidential immunity from prosecution. It’s sort of an esoteric benefit of the U.S. presidency that most presidents don’t use. And never seriously need to contemplate using.”

    • August 14, 2020 at 2:50 pm

“But if you are Individual One. If you have been found as President to have committed crimes and directed the commission of crimes for which other people in prison. Then presidential immunity is the most important thing in your life. And as Michael Cohen says in his new book, we now know, that means you’ll do ANYTHING to keep it. Which means you’ll do anything to keep yourself fin power.”

“Let’s not forget Tribal history as we complete the Census”
    By Kayla Hilario,
    Tribal Affairs Specialist.
“For thousands of years, the Miwok people lived throughout Northern and Central California – spread over a hundred villages along the San Joaquin and Sacramento Rivers and north of the San Francisco Bay area, east into the foothills of the Sierra Nevada.
Then came sudden and drastic change – when an influx of European settlers in the 19th century invaded Miwok lands based on promises of riches overnight. In 1839, John Sutter built his fort and raided around the area. Then the California Gold Rush brought an onslaught of non-Native people into the area.
As many say, the rest is history – and has followed with many years of regaining the right to these historical lands and official recognition of the abuses faced.
This history is not new to Indian Country – we all have come to know this through the years and as other tribes have encountered the same struggles.
The Miwok story is personal for me – I am a descendent of the Blue Family.
My late grandmother, Dorothy (Blue) Olvera, and late father, Henry Sonny Olvera,
were very proud members of this Tribe.
I now take my family history with me to the work I do on behalf of the state.
As the Tribal Affairs Specialist for the California Complete Count – Census 2020 Office, I work with Tribal Governments and tribal outreach to encourage the hardest-to-count Californians to take the Census.
It’s hard for me to admit, but prior to this role, I had little knowledge about how important the Census is for Indian Country. I think back to the 2000 Census when someone knocked on my front door to count me. I didn’t understand why this person wanted to know my name and who lived with me – I was suspicious.
This is a similar situation other Californians face today – understanding why the Census is important and how exactly it’s important for them and their family.”

After US Postal Service cites concerns on delivery standards, Pennsylvania asks court to extend mail-in voting deadlines
Following a warning from the US Postal Service about delays in delivery times, Pennsylvania called on the state Supreme Court to extend deadlines for mail-in ballots to be received in the November election. It comes after Donald Trump said in an interview that he will block funding requested by Democratic lawmakers for the USPS, citing his intention to prevent universal mail-in voting. Pennsylvania is a key swing state in the upcoming election.
