    “The entertainment business is still very sexist. It’s still very male-dominated. And as a woman, I did not see enough female role models given the opportunity to do what I knew I had to do, to run my label and management company, to direct my films and produce my tours. That meant ownership, owning my masters, owning my art, owning my future and writing my own story. Not enough black women had a seat at the table. So I had to go and chop down that wood and build my own table. Then I had invite the best there was to have a seat. That meant hiring women, men, outsiders, underdogs, people that were overlooked and waiting to be seen. Many of the best creatives and business people who although, supremely qualified and talented, were turned down over and over as executives at major corporations because they were female or because of racial disparity.”

      Just think. For years he was just a middle management accounting type. A man of a certain age with the body to show it. A mild-mannered, kind man. AND THEN, BAMM! a super hero on the front lines battling the scourge in our White House and his minions. Been in the trenches for 3 years, a truth-teller battling lies and having his say. Then that mofo in the WH with his no-holds-barred facism, trying to f**k with our election and Walter is full on, salty and even more deermine. LMAO and here for every moment!

    President Obama: Eulogy for John Lewis:
    “Bull Connor may be gone. But today we witness with our own eyes police officers kneeling on the necks of Black Americans. George Wallace may be gone. But we can witness our federal government sending agents to use tear gas and batons against peaceful demonstrators. We may no longer have to guess the number of jellybeans in a jar in order to cast a ballot. But even as we sit here, there are those in power are doing their darnedest to discourage people from voting – by closing polling locations, and targeting minorities and students with restrictive ID laws, and attacking our voting rights with surgical precision, even undermining the postal service in the runup to an election that is going to be dependent on mailed-in ballots so people don’t get sick.”
    “You want to honor John? Let’s honor him by revitalizing the law that he was willing to die for.”
    —PBO here so extraordinary, so stunning. Every day he is with us and walks with us, we are blessed.

    Together, Yes We Can ….

    31 July 2020

    Dear Dudette,

    In the previous blog post you noted: “Love the passion and sense of urgency. I feel like I’m missing something though. What are they not doing that they should be doing?”

    ‘They’ are not stating in unambiguous, simple language that ‘they’ have listened to Trump’s ACTIONS and ‘they’ will NEVER allow him to disrupt the vote or remain in Office if he is defeated.

    ‘They’ are not branding Trump for what he is – Putin’s most sophisticated and destructive ‘Active Measure.’

    Most importantly, ‘they’ have refused to accept the fact that the previous 232 years of US Elections are NOT the appropriate context for this Election.

    Those Elections were conducted when America was NOT CONTROLLED by a Foreign Power that has operated from the White House & Senate since 21 Jan 2017.

    ‘They’ need to escape that 232 year old bubble and then roll, accordingly.

    To wit, ‘they’ need to take 2 Pragmatic “Make Good Trouble” Actions:

    1. Organize the “Shield to Protect the Franchise (SPF)” Occupation for dawn to dusk on the Sunday of Labor Day weekend.

    It should be the largest non-violent occupation of the US Capitol & Every State Capitol controlled by Republicans ever to have occurred.

    The image I have is that of Millions of Citizens in DC and Republican Controlled States wearing a mask, standing 6 feet apart for miles stretching to every street and side street from the steps of those State Capitols and the US Capitol (and White House) outward.

    The inspiration generated by that truly American Action would ignite our fellow Americans and the oppressed throughout the world like no amount of rhetoric has ever achieved.

    2. Leverage the energy of the SPF Occupation to Motivate and Organize the creation of precinct-level “Protect the Franchise” Squads.

    The Squads would FOCUS on pragmatic ACTIONS every American – ages 8 to 100+ – can take before and on 3 Nov 2020 to void the effectiveness of voter suppression tactics.

    1 Since the DNC knows every precinct in which access to voting is being suppressed request the DNC provide to Protect the Franchise a comprehensive map of those precincts;

    2 Use that map to target a Nation-wide recruitment effort in each of those precincts;

    3 Recruit individuals and families from within, as well as, neighboring precincts to bring food, water, portable stools/chairs to polling places to provide comfort and sustenance to those being forced to wait in line;

    4 Recruit retired teachers and other professional child care providers to establish on voting days a temporary, no charge ‘day care’ service so that parents are able to endure the several hours they may have to wait to vote;

    5 Recruit musicians to perform for those forced to wait on sidewalks and in parking lots;

    6 and, Recruit skilled story tellers, artists, and producers to create promotional videos with the intent to flood social media with “grass roots,” motivational, caring messages highlighting the fact that individuals in every City, Town, and Rural area should mobilize to do whatever they can to ensure that their neighbor, their fellow American will not be hindered from voting on whichever days their State authorizes for the 3 Nov 2020 National Election.

    In conclusion, ‘they’ need to be vocal that we are AT WAR and have been under siege since before 2016.

    We have been attacked by the most sophisticated enemy America has ever confronted.

    That enemy is single minded in its mission to DESTROY American and global Democracy.

    Without firing a single shot Putin has gutted America’s relationships with its allies, incited massive scale racial violence, destroyed America’s role in protecting the planet from climatic chaos, crashed our economy, enabled the spread of anti-science to the lethal consequences evidenced by more than 150,000 killed by COVID in less than 7 months, and and and and and ……. and on 3 Nov he is currently positioned to achieve his final objective by driving a nail into the coffin of American Democracy.

    In other words, Putin has been remarkably successful and we have less than 100 days to turn the tide of his many victories and purge him and his troops from our White House, our US Capitol, and our State Capitols.

    I’ve offered a reality-based strategic context and two specific sets of inter-related ACTIONS that can serve to defeat Putin.

    ‘They’ are way more creative than I am so if ‘they’ will just escape that damn 232 year old bubble and “Make Good Trouble” like their LIFE depended on it we might indeed someday celebrate the manifestation of the ‘promise of America’ that our Founding Father of Democracy – Rep John Lewis – envisioned for it (and the world).

    Thank you for your question, {{{{{{{Dudette}}}}}}}.

        True. I live in Fla. the state sure to fuck up, especially in the areas that have a large number of Black voters and other POC. My particular part of the state never has problems and there are more active registered Democrats than Republicans, but I did my online request weeks ago (it was very easy) to vote in an election for judges and state representatives 8/18. Drove to the elections office today to drop off my completed ballot as a dry run for Nov. in case I decide not to trust the efficiency of the postal system for the General Election. The elections office here is rum primarily by Black women who are top notch and make sure that we know about and are covered when there is any voting chicanery coming out of Tallahassee.

    I’m SICK AND TIRED of the way women, and POC women in particular, are constantly held to a very, very, very different standard when it comes to holding important positions. Men just seem so weak and scared when they pull this shit. STOP IT. We have such strong women who are stepping forward to fully participate in solving our urgent problems. I very much appreciate the attention being placed on this issue. I had to have a hysterectomy when I was 32. The fibroids were so bad they had not only consumed my uterus but she to scrape them off my lungs, intestines and some other organs. The procedure took 4 times the usual time to complete and she almost lost me. My doctor told me my case was so extreme it might end up in a textbook.

    Now we got Democrats whispering in Joe’s ear that Kamala Harris aka “Lady Ambition” is too gruff and that she rubs people the wrong way. And wait for it…..she laughed when Chris Dodd asked her about debating Joe Biden. It was a goddamn debate and they want this woman to apologize for debating. GTFOH! these men in Joe’s circle are so fucking weak and petty. The thought of a Black Woman not bowing down to them is a bridge too far for them. Many of our so-called allies aren’t happy that Kamala will most likely get the V.P. nod, they are upset because Kamala ain’t kissing anyone’s ass, but more importantly they know that she does not give one solitary fuck about what they have to say as it relates to how she goes about her business. These motherfuckers are working my last nerve.

    What do certain Democrats have against Senator Harris? I like her, I admit I didn’t like the way she went after Biden that time about busing, but I have let that go. I want her as VP.

    • 124 Don
      July 31, 2020 at 10:13 pm

      The busing issue is precisely why they are mad at Kamala Harris. As if Kamala is the first person in the history of debates to actually go after the person that they are debating. And the fact that she hasn’t personally apologized to Joe. And the fact that some see her as ambitious, despite the fact that everyone on the debate stage was there because they wanted to be President. And the fact that Kamala isn’t going with hat in hand begging to be the Vice President. And the fact that a between 50 to 70% of the White guys that surround Joe suffer from some form of erectile dysfunction. Which explains their lashing out seeing as one of the main symptoms of ED is lashing out.

      • August 1, 2020 at 7:30 am

        She did no such thing. That is a MAGA and Bernie Bro talking point. I live in SF and have been watching Kamala Harris since she became our DA in 2004 and served in that position until 2011, when she was elected our Attorney General.

        She once dated Mayor Willie Brown a long, long time ago, who is married. This is the OTHER talking point of the right-wing. Now, I am not a fan of Willie Brown but everyone in SF knows that although he and his wife never officially divorced, Willie Brown has been thoroughly separated from his wife since the 70s. It’s open public knowledge in SF because he’s a gadfly. So NOPE, that smear doesn’t work either.

          THANK YOU META!!!! Not to mention that lies like these when lobbed against ANY woman is an insidious way of perpetuating the tired old patriarchal trope that women lack ambition and instead are manipulative creatures who only know how use their sexuality to “get ahead”. The companion lie that goes hand in hand with this is that ambition is only a noble attribute in men WHICH IS COMPLETE UTTER CODSWALLOP.

          Any “friend”, male or female, that slurs a woman in this fashion in your presence has some regressive thinking going on to put it mildly. And as their friend, you should be calling them out immediately on their crap. #SeeSomethingSaySomething. Allowing this ignorant toxicity to continue to be perpetuated in our culture is over as well. I’ll get off my soapbox now.

      Bob, Your “they” commentary is ON FIRE! Is there more than ON FIRE? If so, it is that. I agree 1000% with everything you mentioned/suggested. I believe you MUST find a way to have 100% assurance that all the lead campaign people read it. Is there anyone here that has a way to personally contact anyone in the campaign??!!

      I have heard Tom Perez on two Sirus programs this week and he went on and on about how “Believe me and trust me, we are developing the best______________ and ___________ and ___________ that any campaign has ever had in the history of campaigns. I listen to him, then find myself getting angry because I know they are not remotely close to being ready to fight this fight. Interesting that the program I heard him on yesterday, he ended it by saying “You don’t take a spoon to a knife fight.” Sure! I thought “That is exactly what y’all are doing.”

      Get it out there anyway and to as many as you can. I used to be part of ‘slack’, the platform the campaign is using for all communication. I don’t get the emails anymore, but I have someone I can contact to see what happened or how I can get a message to someone.

        • August 1, 2020 at 2:16 am

          Good evening {{{{{{{tnmtngirl1}}}}}}}.

          I am gratified by your support and all you are doing to spread the story.

          Could not agree with you more about Tom Perez and all the others.

          They demonstrate ZERO awareness that Putin & Trump are operating on a level completely unprecedented in American Electoral History.

          Trump & Putin & the GOP could not be more delighted that as each day passes that Dem leadership remains mired in status quo Election preparation. They have every intention of destroying the Election process and, if that fails, refuse to exit peacefully.

          What’s so confounding is that they have never tried to hide those intentions.

          In fact, they have broadcasted their disdain for the Electoral process and have taken innumerable steps to render it defunct.

          Anyone doubting those statements should ask a simple question — When has Trump ever acted in a way consistent with the Constitution of the United States except that he participated in the Inauguration on 20 Jan 2017.

          He has never conformed with the Rule of Law and escaped any form of meaningful consequence so why would he even ‘bat an eye’ at planning to solidify his already accelerating & highly profitable Dictatorship.

          As noted more than once in the past few weeks, you have ZERO chance of winning a war if you underestimate your enemy.

          Americans should remember that both Bonaparte and Hitler did exactly that in their confrontation with Russia and as a result they were crushed.

          Putin has been conducting his asymmetrical war against the US since ~ 2000 and hated the US long before that.

          As of the date/time stamp of this post he is winning and he has Trump, the GOP Senate & House and millions of American Citizens on his side though most of those Citizens have absolutely no clue that he is ‘pushing their buttons’ every day.

          Perhaps this little story posted to Medium will help awaken a counter-offensive before the war is lost.

One point you made in this comment jumped out at me: Except for Inaguration Day, WHEN has he acted in accordance with our Constitution??? He has never followed the Rule of Law! As to your question – “e has never followed the Rule of Law! WHY is it so hard for Dems, all Dems, and especially those in leadership and campaign positions to see?!?!?!?!”

              Answer: Because they are locked in the inertia of a 232 year Electoral tradition. Rather than use the technical term ‘inertia’ to describe their current state, I used the term ‘bubble’ since that analogy more readily conveys being constrained by a fragile, naive sense of entitlement.

      So funny how clueless White men who are married to Black women can be. He has been around his wife and all of the women in her family for at least 4 years and he has just learned this? Well, better late than never, LOL.

    Saw this last night…if the election is delayed/obstructed such that no winner has been/can be determined, the Speaker of the House becomes President on January 20, 2021.

    This controversy re: dems and the VP pick…i do not remember such controversy around a VP pick….has there been and I just don’t remember….Do you suppose that it has to do with..Biden promising to pick a woman for his VP…and then the notion that a black woman (gasp) might be selected…

    is this a made up meme or is there truly a controversy…and if i was not on Twitter…would i know about it..

    Sometimes i have to remind folks that DEMS and others on the Left are not immune to white supremacy…racism…misogyny

      Oh, I think your last sentence is ‘spot on.’ Look at two of the people who are pushing this: Chris Dodd and Ed Rendell. Old white men who, in the past, have had a lot of power in the D party.

      Speaking of twitter, in case you missed our Bob’s long comment, (in reply to Dudette) please find it on this thread and also find it on Twitter and RETWEET it to the ‘right’ people. Please!!!!

      Good morning, Sheila.

      I don’t know exactly what all the brouhaha is actually about but it’s clear that one central aspect of it is as you describe – it is definitely going to be a woman and the pressure is there to select a Black woman. So signal the circus, which normally pays attention but now the MSM are having a field day carrying water for the GOP, doing their best to undermine the whole process. The next big thing they’re going to attack is our DNC convention because it’s going to be virtual and they likely aren’t going to make the same kind of money they usually do. So they are going to find a million things wrong with it.

      I’m not sure why VP Biden is pushing back the decision for another week or so. Maybe it’s a scheduling thing. I am rooting for Kamala Harris because I believe she had the experience, the deep strategic intelligence and attention to detail, the drive and the right heart and commitment to serve to make us proud. However, I will support whatever decision Joe makes because it his decision to make and live with and I will do my best to GOTV going forward. We absolutely MUST be victorious in November.

      • August 1, 2020 at 10:48 am

        We absolutely must be victorious…..

        Who ever the VP pic will be…the Trump campaign will use the pick to attack Biden…they have been able to find something to stick to him…they will use his pick to do it..they already have their misogny s*** all ready…if it is a blk woman…racism will be in play as well…

        We wil have to be Courageous and Comitteed…it will be not be easy….

    Ugh!!!! This seems to be more about who Kemp is playing to and not what is good for the state. Is he trying to out-do DeSantis for the Orange One’s approval?!?!?!?

    Gov. Brian Kemp extended Georgia’s coronavirus restrictions with an order that also renewed rules explicitly banning cities and counties from adopting mask mandates that are at the center of a legal dispute with the city of Atlanta.

    Published late Friday, just hours before a previous order was set to lapse, Kemp’s new rules are laced with language aimed at bolstering the state’s legal case. One section emphasizes the need for a statewide response to “prevent confusion,” while another details the broad emergency powers state lawmakers granted Kemp earlier this year.

      …making it harder for local governments to protect their citizens…

      An effort to curb the spread of COVID-19 at Athens bars by ending alcohol sales at 10 p.m. was placed on hold Friday when a judge granted a temporary restraining order that stops enforcement of the ordinance.

      The Athens-Clarke County Commission voted 8-1 Thursday evening to approve a measure imposing an earlier cutoff for drink sales in the college town, the Athens Banner-Herald reported.

      “We’re seeking to stop the county from usurping the governor’s orders,” [Attorney Mo Wiltshire who represents a group of downtown bar owners] old the Banner-Herald. “We’re all being encouraged to play by the rules. The governor sets those rules and the mayor and commission have encouraged us to play by the rules, but they don’t want to do that themselves. They want to pass their own rules, which they don’t have the authority to do.”

        All of this obstruction will end when more white people fill up the ICUs, the “meat wagons” and the mass graves. Nothing in this country is an emergency or a concern until it adversely affects large numbers of white people. All of these white men in govt. looked at the data and saw that the dead were mostly Native, Hispanic, and Black people and true to form, decided these lives do not matter and it is time to open everything up. We are considered acceptable collateral damage so that white people can pretend that everything is fine. New day; same shit.
        As far as the election and the chatter about the VP pick, my attitude is we will know when we know and whatever is going on, vote. Black people know that both sides use us and that we will get nothing or little out of either outcome. As ever, we go for the least objectional choice and go on to live our lives, making a way out of no way as we have sine we have been on these shores.

        • August 1, 2020 at 11:19 am

          As to the acceptable collateral damage…my thoughts exactly. ANYTHING that they don’t think will adversely affect them or their ilk is okay. Same reason there is no rush to enact gun control laws. Same reason they are so unconcerned about health care. As long as they feel they are protected in their bubble, then everyone else is on their own.

      • August 1, 2020 at 11:10 am

        Perhaps the town should get an ordinance that can help the workers in these bars and restaurants…so that they do not have to work….and put their lives at risk….

        How different things would now be in GA..if Stacey Abrams had won…how many Georgians would still be alive….

        • August 1, 2020 at 11:21 am

          Exactly. They are not putting themselves or their families’ lives at risk. How many of those bar owners will actually be working in the bars. And of course masks are not required and social distancing won’t be happening.
