I don’t see how this destructive Trumpism is applicable to our Republic’s survivability.

The devil is in the details, but if my Governor managed to give this terrible administration an off-ramp while making them pay for cleaning up the graffiti and removing the heavy fencing, I just hope it works.

    • July 29, 2020 at 2:43 pm

It has been terrifying and horrific.
But the young people from every walk of life say they are adamant about ending police brutality against people of color. It has been going on for a very long time and they are sick of it. They want radical change policing and a complete overall and end to the current policing system.
      Let it begin!

Just finish listening to Michelle and Barack Obama. Love them. Gosh I miss them being in the White House so much. I loved it when Michelle said that Barack was a President who reads And understand History, ha, ha, ha. Not like that pathological lying racist jack “A” in their now.

You need to be careful about these Republicans/conservatives you’re whooping up right now just because they’re riding that Never Trump train. Retweeting and liking everything they post. Boosting them.

Rick Wilson, Louise Mensch, Bill Kristol, The Lincoln Project (or whatever the heck they call themselves), etc. Where were these people before Trump? Oh yeah, championing his ideology but doing it in subtler ways.

Stop falling for these fools. They only care about the grift. Ask yourself why they’re only now speaking up. It’s not just Trump that is the issue. The very party that they represent is also the issue when it comes to race, education, healthcare, LGBTQIA, science, etc. but you don’t see them disavowing the party full scale.

Stop hyping them up. Stop lining their pockets when they don’t give a shit about you if you’re not a straight white male and even then…well. Democrats do this shit every time and it’s maddening. Know who is in your corner long term and who is not.

They’ll show you their true colors soon enough.

So true. I have been warning people about this. These people always have a deeper game and it is not to benefit the rest of us. Democrats and enlightened Independents need only to get our asses to the polls and make sure everyone else in our communities do so as well. Repubs will say one thing and vote another way. We do not need to be celebrating and being so grateful when they put out videos etc.

    EXTEND UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFITS
“62 percent of voters in the battleground states of Arizona, Florida, Michigan, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin believe enhanced unemployment benefits should be extended,
according to polling published Wednesday by CNBC/Change Research.
All of the aforementioned states are swing states in play for November’s general election.”

    Er,
After hearing that the goons would leave Portland tomorrow…now hearing that:
“Acting Homeland Security Secretary Chad Wolf was less definitive, saying only that an agreement had been reached for Oregon State Police to take on an increased role in downtown Portland.
“The Department will continue to maintain our current, augmented federal law enforcement personnel in Portland until we are assured that the Hatfield Federal Courthouse and other federal properties will no longer be attacked and that the seat of justice in Portland will remain secure,” (Wolf)
—You can’t trust Mayor Wheeler say protestors.
—The brutal policing system must start over from scratch.

Sometimes I get upset with Joe Biden because I think at times he makes unnecessary errors. And then there are times like yesterday when he held a presser after giving a speech on the economy. Yesterday is why I’ll stand in line for hours to vote for Joe, his compassion is what turns me on. The thing about compassion is that you can’t fake it, you either have it or you don’t, and Joe has it.

  59. July 29, 2020 at 5:30 pm

Trump and Barr armed multipurpose goons must leave.
    1) Creating violence and photo ops around peaceful protestors who aren’t going to leave.
    2) Getting ready to mess with pollling stations?
    3) Creating riots after the election?

He will NEVER accept a vote tally unless he has made it IMPOSSIBLE for it to be accurate.

NY was at 20.4% unemployment in June. In May Las Vegas was at 29% (CNBC).
These are 1932 to 1935 unemployment numbers.
American workers are not at fault for COVID-19 or for Doom’s denial and deadly zero response.
Who knows how many Americans will die because of Trump if we keep spectating and media like NPR keep both-sideying.

    Understandably…

After Lewis died on July 17, Carter said in a statement, “John never shied away from what he called ‘good trouble’ to lead our nation on the path toward human and civil rights. Everything he did, he did in a spirit of love.”

Carter had appointed Lewis to a federal position when president.

          Dearest Dudette,

I am in awe at the steadiness of all your educational posts about astronomy. When I was a teenager I gazed often at the wide, blue sky with its majestic lights, and when the Moon came around it was the best treat of the nights. NASA’s genius is giving us a glance of the outer world. I can’t wait to see what Mars Rover will tell us. Thank you for reminding us that there is still beauty in this ugly chapter of American history.

Thank you NCLB! The amazing genius of our people at NASA and their partners has awed me since I watched the Apollo missions as a wide-eyed 7 year old. It’s so important to keep our eyes on the things that inspire us to dream and give us hope for the future. I’m so glad we have our TOD village here to share these experiences, especially when so much ugliness and despair surrounds us. 😘😘😘

With Universal Mail-In Voting (not Absentee Voting, which is good), 2020 will be the most INACCURATE & FRAUDULENT Election in history. It will be a great embarrassment to the USA. Delay the Election until people can properly, securely and safely vote???
    ————————

Children should go to school, states should reopen, but the elections should be postponed???

    Opinion: NYT
Mr. John Lewis: “Together, You Can Redeem the Soul of Our Nation”
“While my time here has now come to an end, I want you to know that in the last days and hours of my life you inspired me. You filled me with hope about the next chapter of the great American story when you used your power to make a difference in our society. Millions of people motivated simply by human compassion laid down the burdens of division. Around the country and the world you set aside race, class, age, language and nationality to demand respect for human dignity.”

    • July 30, 2020 at 10:34 am

      John Lewis:
“That is why I had to visit Black Lives Matter Plaza in Washington, though I was admitted to the hospital the following day. I just had to see and feel it for myself that, after many years of silent witness, the truth is still marching on.”

    • July 30, 2020 at 10:36 am

      John Lewis:
“Emmett Till was my George Floyd. He was my Rayshard Brooks, Sandra Bland and Breonna Taylor. He was 14 when he was killed, and I was only 15 years old at the time. I will never ever forget the moment when it became so clear that he could easily have been me. In those days, fear constrained us like an imaginary prison, and troubling thoughts of potential brutality committed for no understandable reason were the bars.”

    • July 30, 2020 at 10:38 am

      John Lewis:
“Though I was surrounded by two loving parents, plenty of brothers, sisters and cousins, their love could not protect me from the unholy oppression waiting just outside that family circle. Unchecked, unrestrained violence and government-sanctioned terror had the power to turn a simple stroll to the store for some Skittles or an innocent morning jog down a lonesome country road into a nightmare. If we are to survive as one unified nation, we must discover what so readily takes root in our hearts that could rob Mother Emanuel Church in South Carolina of her brightest and best, shoot unwitting concertgoers in Las Vegas and choke to death the hopes and dreams of a gifted violinist like Elijah McClain.”

    • July 30, 2020 at 10:40 am

      John Lewis:
“Like so many young people today, I was searching for a way out, or some might say a way in, and then I heard the voice of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on an old radio. He was talking about the philosophy and discipline of nonviolence. He said we are all complicit when we tolerate injustice. He said it is not enough to say it will get better by and by. He said each of us has a moral obligation to stand up, speak up and speak out. When you see something that is not right, you must say something. You must do something. Democracy is not a state. It is an act, and each generation must do its part to help build what we called the Beloved Community, a nation and world society at peace with itself.”

    • July 30, 2020 at 10:42 am

      John Lewis:
“Ordinary people with extraordinary vision can redeem the soul of America by getting in what I call good trouble, necessary trouble. Voting and participating in the democratic process are key. The vote is the most powerful nonviolent change agent you have in a democratic society. You must use it because it is not guaranteed. You can lose it.”

    • July 30, 2020 at 10:44 am

      John Lewis:
“You must also study and learn the lessons of history because humanity has been involved in this soul-wrenching, existential struggle for a very long time. People on every continent have stood in your shoes, though decades and centuries before you. The truth does not change, and that is why the answers worked out long ago can help you find solutions to the challenges of our time. Continue to build union between movements stretching across the globe because we must put away our willingness to profit from the exploitation of others.”

    • July 30, 2020 at 10:46 am

      John Lewis:
“Though I may not be here with you, I urge you to answer the highest calling of your heart and stand up for what you truly believe. In my life I have done all I can to demonstrate that the way of peace, the way of love and nonviolence is the more excellent way. Now it is your turn to let freedom ring.”

    • July 30, 2020 at 10:48 am

      John Lewis:
“When historians pick up their pens to write the story of the 21st century, let them say that it was your generation who laid down the heavy burdens of hate at last and that peace finally triumphed over violence, aggression and war. So I say to you, walk with the wind, brothers and sisters, and let the spirit of peace and the power of everlasting love be your guide.”

      • July 30, 2020 at 10:51 am

“Mr. Lewis, the civil rights leader who died on July 17, wrote this essay shortly before his death,
to be published upon the day of his funeral” (NYT)
“Though I am gone, I urge you to answer the highest calling of your heart and stand up for what you truly believe.” (John Lewis)
