Consider how many THOUSANDS of cops and federal agents have been willing to beat, mace and fire rubber bullets into the faces and heads of innocent people.
It's not a few bad apples.
Never was.
The hard truth is that many of these cops really love this shit. It's fun for them.
I read somewhere that Joe Biden is assembling a whole host of lawyers to be prepared for unlawful action as well as I’ve seen on twitter a call to be a poll worker for the Democrats from Joe Biden, so I think they’re hard at work but it’s not getting much attention. I think that could be a good thing, but also a bad thing.
COVID-19’s impact has hit communities of color hardest from the start, exposing and exacerbating racial disparities across our systems. Letting this important relief lapse will deepen these injustices.
Ban evictions when we need people to shelter at home and COVID deaths are spiraling. Meanwhile the Vampire party wants to gut the $600 as well as unemployment benefits. Stop paying GOP congressional salaries and expose their ties to Putin.

Florida is a beautiful state! I'm so angry about the lack of care here that I can barely speak about it. Our numbers of new cases & new deaths have been rising continuously which apparently has zero affect on Ron DeSantis or Trump. God please save Florida. Our children, our lives

Morning everyone. Going to post this here again. Important thread to process and really understand. Please share. We have too much at stake for Americans NOT to understand this.
0/20 The next few months will determine the future of our republic. Here are some principles for the preservation of freedom I wrote nearly four years ago, when all of this was beginning. I share them again now in admiration of Americans who protest for justice and work for truth
The first 3/20 lessons for us:
Timothy’s Snyder’s “On Tyranny’:
1.
Do not obey in advance.
Most of the power of authoritarianism is freely given. In times like these, individuals think ahead about what a more repressive government will want, and then offer themselves without being asked. A citizen who adapts in this way is teaching power what it can do.
2.
Defend institutions.
It is institutions that help us to preserve decency. They need our help as well. Do not speak of “our institutions” unless you make them yours by acting on their behalf. Institutions do not protect themselves. So choose an institution you care about and take its side.
3.
Beware the one-party state.
The parties that remade states and suppressed rivals were not omnipotent from the start. They exploited a historic moment to make political life impossible for their opponents. So support the multi-party system and defend the rules of democratic elections.
If you haven’t read his “Road to Unfreedom” you might want to do so in the next few days.
If you do read it, you’ll have the context for all of my tweets on Trump and why it’s truly tragic that hardly any Americans, as of today, are even willing to label him what he is.
Reality: #Trump is America's 1st & increasingly successful DICTATOR.
He owns the GOP, DOJ, DHS, DOD & Treasury.
He is WORSHIPED by Police Unions & has 10s of millions of Americans who APPROVE of his COVID management.
He is America’s 1st Dictator. He will never exit willfully, he’s written off the election, has proven himself capable of caging infants, killing 140+ Americans in < 6 months, & enjoyed the live feed video of a person being vaporized by an AGM114 missile. Redux 1776. #KingOrange.
It is fortunate that the US Military has not caved to Trump, as you note above, bridgeriverpass.
However, we need an entirely unique Organizational Structure and Commitment compared to anything that currently Exists if we are to prevent King Orange from prevailing.
That Organizational Structure is not random, passionate, and entirely well-meaning gatherings of Americans at protest sites throughout the Nation.
That Organizational Structure should be led by someone with the moral capacity of a Mandela, a John Lewis, a Gandhi.
Long before 3 Nov 10 + MILLION Americans need to converge on DC, and millions in State Capitols Controlled by Republicans and make it IMPOSSIBLE for Trump, Pence, McConnell and their Nation-wide crime syndicate to remain in their current positions.
Trump will NEVER allow Voters to remove him from Office because he KNOWS that his only options would then be suicide, prison or however Putin decides to dispose of him.
Cheney, Bush, Reagan, & Nixon exited without facing punishment for their criminality.
As much as that did to undermine the #RuleOfLaw in America, they weren’t traitors owned by a Foreign Enemy(s).
Simply, Trump is cornered – not because of the #RuleOfLaw (which is now verging on non-existent in the USA), but because he is owned by folk who will not save him since he will no longer be of any use to them.
Returning to his $$$ laundromat biz ain’t an option and, since he would no longer be supplying his owners with intelligence, destroying NATO, unlimited amounts of sophisticated weapons, etc., he has no where to hide from a failed mobster’s fate.
Professor Synder has written extensively on the politics of inevitability and eternity.
America has existed under the illusion that Democracy would inevitably persist. Putin has punctuated that invevitability with a resounding and, as of today, totally unmet challenge.
It’s Redux 1776.
We must peacefully purge King Orange and his Court by making it impossible for them to operate.
The largest, peaceful, persistent occupation of any City ever to have occurred is now the remaining option.
Better it happen before 3 Nov, because the opportunity for it to be peaceful after that day is most likely zero.
BTW, if what I’ve written above is proved to be incorrect, I will be the happiest I have ever been at anytime in my life.
I bought his book “On Tyranny” on kindle and have started it. It’s very good and informative about things we can do. I highly recommend purchasing it, especially when you feel full of despair as I have done.
John Lewis’ casket was just taken from the historic Brown Chapel AME Church here in Selma and placed onto a horse-drawn carriage, which will now carry his body one last time across the Edmund Pettus Bridge, where Lewis was infamously beaten in 1965. pic.twitter.com/1NU4pq5uld
A procession honoring Rep. John Lewis will cross Edmund Pettus Bridge, who walked the bridge. Lewis walked the bridge with about 600 other voting rights advocates on March 7, 1965. https://t.co/OLkIdk5Jw7https://t.co/jOo4ElFMaW
Betty Boynton was 15 when she was beaten on the Edmund Pettus Bridge as she marched behind John Lewis in 1965. Here she is describing the terror of that bloody day to me just now. Lewis’ body is here in Selma today and will be crossing the bridge one final time later this morning pic.twitter.com/slFSzO62rg
Lewis’ casket will proceed to Atlanta, where he will lie in state on Wednesday, then go on to his Georgia funeral on Thursday. These are historic moments honoring a great American life. Stay tuned here & @aldotcom for coverage of today’s events in Selma and Montgomery.
C-SPAN will re-air its 2012 Q&A w/ Rep. John Lewis tonight at 8pm ET.

Timothy Snyder speaking to Maddow (last topic).
Maddow: “Because of your history, your experience as a historian, and the way that you have asked us to learn from other countries that have gone through authoritarian slides, what do you make of the fact that the president seems to be escalating his communication and calls with Vladimir Putin of Russia?
The Kremlin told us this week that they just had their seventh call since the end of March.
Should we see this as a separate lane, or should we see this as potentially connected?”
Snyder:
“Of course they’re connected.
Mr. Trump makes no secret of the fact that he admires Mr. Putin.
Mr. Putin is someone who has just secured his own ability to be president through the year 2036.
That kind of presidency for life is something which naturally interests Mr. Trump. The two men have had a vivid relationship for years now. And Mr. Putin interfered in our elections the last time around. We’re now looking at a situation where Mr. Trump is getting crushed in the polls. He doesn’t seem to have much chance in November, at least much chance in a conventional election. So it doesn’t seem surprising that he would think of one of his most important constituents and allies as Mr. Putin.
That’s the track I’m most worried about.
I think all this is connected with November.
I think Portland is connected with November.
It’s a dry run for November.
If we don’t react to it in Portland, we’re going to see these guys in polling stations.
And I think Mr. Putin is all about November – what can Mr. Putin offer Mr. Trump in November.”
(Author ‘On Tyranny’ and ‘The Road to Unfreedom’)
I would have loved to meet John Lewis here on earth. But that was not in our destiny.
When I get to heaven, I’ll seek him out. I want to tell him how much I admired him even though I was not an American. I want to tell him that the legacy he left behind was not only for his beloved USA, but also for every oppressed person around the world. I will tell him that his life’s work is a lit candle that will forever shine to dispel the darkness of inequality and oppression from the nations.
I will also share how I sat at home in a tiny Caribbean island and watched with tears of gratitude as his body made that final crossing on the bridge that witnessed his love for humanity on that Bloody Sunday decades ago. And I will end with a simple “thank you”.

An incredibly moving and fitting tribute for John Lewis, a man who carried the baton of justice until the very end. Over the next 100 days, let us pick up that baton and march on to the ballot box in his honor. https://t.co/mewzRp2uTz

Our hearts are broken at the loss of our humble freedom fighter. Just six weeks ago, Rep. Lewis joined an MBK town hall to inspire the next generation of changemakers who are getting in 'good trouble.' He said, “They’re going to help redeem the soul of America.”
The best thing to do: Register to be a poll worker! There’s a desperate need. Many poll workers are seniors at risk for COVID. They’ll stay home & polls will close.
That symbolism was on display yet again this morning on his final crossing of the Edmund Pettus Bridge. It was on display in March at his final appearance at this year’s Jubilee, in the midst of a primary and ahead of a general election in a racially polarized America.

For many of the voters I talk to, to pay tribute to John Lewis this year is to vote in his name. It is not just to participate in this democracy; it is to say thank you to the greatest generation for their service, for helping to perfect our union.

The is precisely what @realDonaldTrump and his campaign were hoping for. He’s an arsonist, not a fireman. He wants to stir violent protests to fuel his “law and order” campaign ads.https://t.co/XUmo2tSuNW

Garrett Foster was murdered last night peacefully protesting at a BLACK LIVES MATTER protest in Austin, Texas with his fiance, whitney, who is a quadruple amputee because of serious medical negligence.
She was thrown off her wheelchair and he was shot 3 times.
Say his name. Anti-racism warrior Garrett Foster was murdered last night at the protests in Austin, in front of his fiance, whose wheelchair he was pushing. Burn in hell @realDonaldTrump.
We're 100 days away from Election Day and there is too much at stake to sit this one out. Now's a good time to make sure you're registered to vote––and to make sure your friends and family are, too. https://t.co/XdZz4dh82T
YOUR TO-DO LIST ✅ go to https://t.co/1XZ7S2z9h6 & register to vote or check your voter registration (check it a LOT, people "mysteriously" fall off the rolls all the time) ✅ go to https://t.co/qMF5xoA6jq and fill out your census ✅ tell 5 people you know to do these things too https://t.co/JxEvTalXUX
Was wondering what this was about. Now I see. Coward.
Perhaps the prospect of tens of thousands of people in the streets outside of the stadium protesting against him sunk in. Name a city large enough to have an MLB team where that wouldn’t happen. I don’t think there is one https://t.co/LSdvxQJ1wk

As part of its ongoing “Stop the Spread” campaign, DeKalb County planned to distribute 20,000 masks and signage to local small businesses to encourage them to implement a “No Mask, No Service” policy.
When you see a restaurant crowded with people not wearing masks, you see people who chose not to reopen schools.
When you see folks boasting on social media about how they snuck into Kroger without a mask on, you see people who chose not to reopen schools.
When you see images of people gleefully having huge parties, you’re seeing people who chose not to reopen schools.
A metro Atlanta teacher says parents angry with schools opening virtually should not blame school leaders. Rather, the state of Georgia and its citizens for refusing to comply with social distancing and other safety measures. https://t.co/ACFNEaN4HB
Teacher says Georgia’s rush to reopen and failure to stop spread forced virtual classes
“… parents angry that their local schools will be opening with virtual instruction should not blame school leaders. They did not make this decision. The state of Georgia and its citizens did — by refusing to comply with the safety measures, social distancing and mask-wearing necessary to defeat this pandemic…”
Our state now has a steep, alarming curve of growth in both new cases and hospitalizations, and public health experts warn us we need to take action now. Addressing the spreading pandemic is a necessary step toward schools reopening. We can’t reopen until we do.
But we aren’t taking action. Our state government is not doing much in particular to stop the spread, other than asking people nicely to be careful. We don’t have state regulations requiring masks, and we don’t even let cities and local governments with high rates of COVID-19 make their own mask ordinances.
Mail-in Voting leads to Voter Fraud. Is that why tRump is pushing it for his supporters?
I don't want to get too optimistic about this, but it looks as if Never Trump conservatism is moving towards a post-Trump posture of favoring expanded voting rights. See my interview with @jwgop, the founder of @ProjectLincoln on this: https://t.co/7nfs4QhA9a
Someone recently asked what happened to his pledge:
Mike Bloomberg's gun control group is pouring $15 million into races in 8 states.
Everytown for Gun Safety hopes to help Democrats flip three Senate seats, win control of state legislatures, and lift Joe Biden to victory in Florida.https://t.co/cKm2oSA3C0
It includes $5 million earmarked for Florida, the lone state where Everytown plans on advertising in the presidential contest; $3.5 million in Texas, where the group is targeting six House races; and $1 million to $1.5 million in Arizona, Iowa and North Carolina — three states where it will advertise in Senate races — as well as in Minnesota and Pennsylvania.
The group also plans an initial $500,000 investment in Georgia, where, in addition to the state legislative contests, the group will advertise on behalf of Representative Lucy McBath, a suburban Atlanta Democrat who used to work as an Everytown spokeswoman.
Trump has literally built a wall around himself. You can’t even see the White House from the street anymore. Don’t forget that this isn’t his house! It’s the People’s House! Elect Joe Biden and he will tear down that wall! pic.twitter.com/TJmc2Xwt5D
The hard truth is this pandemic didn’t have to be this bad. Ron Klain, former White House Ebola Response Coordinator, breaks down what a Biden administration would have done differently and what we would do now to get this virus under control: pic.twitter.com/cw8mBOfujj
Instead of taking charge during the pandemic, Trump would rather people learn to live with their grandparents dying. Learn to live with their friends on ventilators. Learn to live with boarded up businesses.
Masha Gessen,
Russian-American journalist, “Surviving Autocracy”, “The Future is History”, eleven books. NYT, New Yorker, etc.
They now live in NY with their wife and children. Described as “Russia’s leading LGBT rights activist.”
Speaking to Mehdi Hassan:
“Oh he has been telling us for actually four years that he doesn’t believe in the electoral process.
That he basically believes it to be rigged. If you recall, even before the 2016 election he was talking about how he wasn’t going to recognize the outcome of the vote. And that it was rigged. And even after the 2016 election he kept talking about how millions of immigrants vote illegally, right? This man has absolutely no respect or intention to recognize the validity of the vote. So we have to learn to think about the United States as the kind of country that has a sitting president who is going to try to hold on to his office, even if the voters say that they no longer want him in office. And we have to think about what happens after that.’
Hassan: “Between November and January he can cause a lot of harm…he treats ICE and CPB like they’re his own personal army…what does that remind you of…?
Gessen:
“And from my own work. I’ve seen this before. I’ve city, street warfare before. It was usually in war zones.
It wasn’t the result of peaceful protest or mostly peaceful protest in a city street. In fact I want to make that perfectly clear. The kind of scenes that we have seen that has been in the footage that has come out of Portland, is not like for example what I’ve seen when the Russian special forces brutally put down protests in Moscow. This is much more reminiscent of street warfare in Chechnya or in the former Yugoslavia, which I also witnessed and covered. That’s what it looks like. And it has often looked like military-style troops moving in on mostly peaceful mostly unarmed people.”
Hassan: ”What do you say to people who say ‘the F-word (fascism) is a step too far’?
Gessen:
“You know we do have liberal institutions. And certainly you cannot compare the political structures of the United States today to the political structures of Russia, or the political structures of the former Yugoslavia. The question is what makes comparison useful? And I think what makes comparison useful is when it makes us think. If it makes us recoil and say “hey don’t use that word it makes us stop thinking” that’s not terribly useful.”
Gessen:
“I think that it is useful right now to think about the word fascist. Because whether Donald Trump is aware of this or not, he is PERFORMING fascism. A lot of power is performance. And he has chosen to perform power as he imagines it. The images that he has picked out of the ether are fascist images.”
Gessen:
“And one more thing. You know we tend to think as though fascism it were established overnight. There’s this really strong mythology of the Reichstag fire. The Reichstag fire, which is very important in German history, which was when Hitler declared the State of Exception, that was in 1933. That was 5 years before Germany annexed Austria, 6 years before it invaded Poland, 8 years before it invaded the Soviet Union.
Fascism takes hold over time. And if you think about that as a process. If you think about the warning signs that we’re seeing that are also telling us how far we have fallen. The word fascism is important especially if we think about the history of fascism as something that unfolded over time.”
Hassan: “A lot of Americans going out on the street to fight back against what they consider to be fascism, whether it’s a BLM protest, a civil liberties group, the Wall of Moms, the guy with the leaf blower, the navy veteran who got beaten on camera didn’t move an inch. Does that fill you with some sort of hope…this performance of fascism, yes one in three Americans are buying it. But the bulk of Americans are not buying it.”
GESSEN
“Absolutely and ultimately whether the Secret Service or other uniformed services escort Donald Trump
out of office after he refuses to recognize an electoral loss, god willing it’s a loss, will depend on whether they perceive the people are on their side or on his side. Right? And it is up to us to show both at the voting booth in November, and right now in the streets, whose side we’re on.”

AMENNNNNN!!
The whole truth!
No example exists anywhere in the history of warfare of victory being achieved by underestimating an enemy.
The response is for Democrats to recruit their own poll watchers as well. Play the same game as Republicans.
I read somewhere that Joe Biden is assembling a whole host of lawyers to be prepared for unlawful action as well as I’ve seen on twitter a call to be a poll worker for the Democrats from Joe Biden, so I think they’re hard at work but it’s not getting much attention. If we don’t react to it in Portland, we’re going to see these guys in polling stations.
And I think Mr. Putin is all about November – what can Mr. Putin offer Mr. Trump in November.”

This con man liar racist traitor criminal is the scum of the earth and they keep trying to deify him. AS IF we’re all just that stupid. UGH.
Sickening. So disrespectful to Tubman and Douglass.

No Mask No Service
As part of its ongoing “Stop the Spread” campaign, DeKalb County planned to distribute 20,000 masks and signage to local small businesses to encourage them to implement a “No Mask, No Service” policy.
When you see a restaurant crowded with people not wearing masks, you see people who chose not to reopen schools.
When you see folks boasting on social media about how they snuck into Kroger without a mask on, you see people who chose not to reopen schools.
When you see images of people gleefully having huge parties, you’re seeing people who chose not to reopen schools.
Morning everyone. Long thread
Mail-in Voting leads to Voter Fraud. Is that why tRump is pushing it for his supporters?
Someone recently asked what happened to his pledge:
Good morning, good people I hope everyone is well and your families are well.

“Botched U.S. reopening may require a shutdown do-over
Rachel Maddow outlines the reasoning of more than 150 health experts who have signed onto a letter calling for the U.S. to try another shutdown, to do it correctly this time to control the coronavirus as a unified country instead of disparate states prolonging the outbreak.”
