Too often we see Republicans create a crisis and then take action to “fix” it. We see it whenever there are government shutdowns. We are especially seeing it throughout this pandemic…especially from the Orange Oval Office Occupant.

First of all, the action they *eventually* take is just a smidgen of what is needed or what they should be doing.

Secondly, they don’t seem to realize or care that they don’t get credit for “fixing” something that they themselves broke.

Finally, they aren’t getting away with it as they may have in the past (or thought they may have). People are awake … more awake than they have been in the past. The GOP’s conduct is so blatant, unapologetic, selfish and constant…and people are seeing and feeling the impact of their actions/inactions. People are seeing that they are not being represented; that the well-being of constituents is not at the forefront of GOP activity in Congress. What people are seeing is a goal of personal enrichment and empowerment while those in need are left to fend for themselves.

November 3rd will be the day of reckoning. If voters stay aware, engaged, and determined, the GOP will get their comeuppance — and “getouttance”.

I’m listening to the news and shake my head when I hear statements that allow students to return to a classroom. I know for a fact that you can’t keep a kid to sit in their seat for five minutes, how are you going to make them keep that mask on???!!!!!!

    • July 25, 2020 at 10:19 am

Not to mention that many schools are in dire need of significant repairs — HVAC, plumbing, structure, etc — and don’t have the funding to make the *needed* repairs. This would be in addition to what will be needed to create a safe environment for students, faculty, and staff returning to schools in the midst of a pandemic.

I’ve seen buildings where some classroom sizes are such that social distancing is impossible. That’s without students moving about.

Can you imagine *anyone* — especially children — keeping a mask on when it is hot [and it is HOT in southern states at the start of the school year] and the AC is not working properly? Plus many students of certain ages are very social. They hug and get in each other’s space on a daily basis as if they haven’t seen each other in ages. [And that will be the case at the start of this school year.]

You now are ruled by a Dictator.

Trump, in deploying Prince’s ‘little green men’ against American Citizens, allowing Putin to target our troops, forcing schools to either open or be denied funds ….. all with IMPUNITY.

A legitimate US National Election ain’t happening while he is in the White House. That ship sailed on 8 Nov 2016.

    Goodnight TOD.

Nope. I will not accept defeat. I’m a decedent of slaves, we DON’T give up. He may be a dictator in his mind, but, not in my life.

Get this right – he will NOT be the next president in this United States of America!

Believe and Trust that, say all the Black Women in the USA

      • July 25, 2020 at 8:25 pm

Could not agree with you more, Gail.

Trump will NOT be the Next President of the United States of America.

Fact is, HE IS the First American Dictator and he Occupies the White House.

He has vast resources and allies, both within the USA and offshore, and clearly HE will kill ANYONE to remain America’s First Dictator because he has no Exit Strategy other Hitler’s in his Berlin bunker. Putin, the Saudis, Kim, et al., will not provide him sanctuary.

So, MY ONLY HOPE IS THAT DESCENDANTS OF SLAVES, in particular, will accept that reality and GIVE

Sincerely and with deepest LOVE and RESPECT.

“An open letter to America’s decision makers, on behalf of health professionals across the country.
    Dear decision makers,
    Hit the reset button.
Of all the nations in the world, we’ve had the most deaths from COVID-19. At the same time, we’re in the midst of “reopening our economy,” exposing more and more people to coronavirus and watching numbers of cases — and deaths — skyrocket.
In March, people went home and stayed there for weeks, to keep themselves and their neighbors safe. You didn’t use the time to set us up to defeat the virus. And then you started to reopen anyway, and too quickly.
Right now we are on a path to lose more than 200,000 American lives by November 1st. Yet, in many states people can drink in bars, get a haircut, eat inside a restaurant, get a tattoo, get a massage, and do myriad other normal, pleasant, but non-essential activities.
    Get our priorities straight.
More than 117,000 Americans had died of COVID-19 by mid-June. If our response had been as effective as Germany’s, estimates show that we would have had only 36,000 COVID-19 deaths in that period in the United States. If our response had been as effective as South Korea, Australia, or Singapore’s, fewer than 2,000 Americans would have died. We could have prevented 99% of those COVID-19 deaths. But we didn’t.
The best thing for the nation is not to reopen as quickly as possible, it’s to save as many lives as possible. And reopening before suppressing the virus isn’t going to help the economy. Economists have gone on record saying that the only way to “restore the economy is to address the pandemic itself,” pointing out that until we find a way to boost testing and develop and distribute a vaccine, open or not, people will not be in the mood to participate. Listen to the experts.”
—We’re on track to 200,000 deaths by November 1st.

    • July 25, 2020 at 12:22 pm

“Public health professionals have made clear that even after we’ve contained the virus by staying at home, in order to reopen American cities and towns safely, we will need:
      — Enough daily testing capacity to test everyone with flu-like symptoms plus anyone they have been in close contact with over the last 2 weeks (at least 10 additional tests per symptomatic person). We currently have only 35% of the testing capacity we need to meet that threshold. The more people get sick, the more testing is required.
      — A workforce of contact tracers large enough to trace all current cases. That’s 210,000 more contact tracers than we had in April, but the number keeps going up as infections rise. Most states are far short of the number of contact tracers they need.
In addition, we need more personal protective equipment (PPE) to keep essential workers like health professionals, emergency responders, and grocery store clerks safe.
Shut it down now, and start over.”
      More of the letter: https://uspirg.org/resources/usp/shut-it-down-start-over-do-it-right

Hi Everyone! I’m sitting here watching highlights of the Atlanta Olympics Opening Ceremony in 1996 on the Olympic Channel. The US athletes are marching in. Feeling all verklempt at the days gone by. Seeing Bill and Hillary in the stands waving on our team. [Dammit she should’ve been our President today!] Waiting for flame lighting to come up. Remembering the well-kept secret of who would light the cauldron. Sigh!

“American activism is best hope to save U.S. democracy from Trump”
“Timothy Snyder, author of “On Tyranny,” talks with Rachel Maddow about how Donald Trump’s actions echo the behavior of governments that slip away from democracy and into authoritarianism.”

    • July 25, 2020 at 1:14 pm

“In a rule of law state which is what we should be, you can tell the police from the civilians.
When the police don’t identify themselves, when the police don’t wear insignia, when the police act as though they’re above the law, then you’ve moved clearly to the authoritarian direction. It’s the dark fantasy in both life and literature of totalitarian authoritarianism, that someone you can’t identify arrests you and takes you away in the middle of the night. So yes, this is something we should be attending to.”

    • July 25, 2020 at 1:31 pm

“A similar aspect here is the detention centers, we have this huge network of detention centers which are basically lawless zones. Another historical pattern is that people who are trained in lawless zones, such as detention centers or concentration camps, are then released into cities later on and they behave the same way. They behave the way they’ve been trained. So this is the reason why we care about human rights, why we don’t have lawless zones, why we don’t treat people who aren’t citizens differently to people who are citizens. Because once you give up on human rights, then you find soon that your civil rights,
your rights to citizen will go away as well.”

Hey DF. I have really been distraught since the 2016 election. I emersed myself into my graduate studies. I finished in December 19 and thought that I would start to get back into the fray slowing and then COVID-19 hit. It’s been a rough ride, but I am slowing coming back to social media. I have been trying to focus a lot on local politics by staying active with our local chapter of the League of Women Voters and my Sorority. My hope is to get back to fellowshipping with you all. Tennessee’s case has continued to rise. People refuse to wear a mask and continue to go out to bars. The Downtown Embassy Suites had a line down the street of youngsters waiting to get to the rooftop bar. No mask and no social distancing.
