    Happy Fourth of July TODVille!

    • July 4, 2020 at 2:36 pm

      Congrats, No Child! Not celebrating anything except my nephew’s 25th birthday and Malia Obama’s 22nd. Will be watching Hamilton again instead of any faux patriotic stuff.

        You got that right. It’s exactly the way I feel this year, and I’m good with my decision. I’m not “over” my own personal patriotism, but I am over celebrating the faux stuff shoved down our throats.

            If we have to go through this to get to a better place, it’ll be worth it, although we would have never thought this would have been the case. Just wish it would go more quickly!!!!

      The Bridge Builder

      By Will Allen Dromgoole

      An old man going a lone highway,
      Came, at the evening cold and gray,
      To a chasm vast and deep and wide.
      Through which was flowing a sullen tide
      The old man crossed in the twilight dim,
      The sullen stream had no fear for him;
      But he turned when safe on the other side
      And built a bridge to span the tide.

      “Old man,” said a fellow pilgrim near,
      “You are wasting your strength with building here;
      Your journey will end with the ending day,
      You never again will pass this way;
      You’ve crossed the chasm, deep and wide,
      Why build this bridge at evening tide?”

      The builder lifted his old gray head;
      “Good friend, in the path I have come,” he said,
      “There followed after me to-day
      A youth whose feet must pass this way.
      This chasm that has been as naught to me
      To that fair-haired youth may a pitfall be;
      He, too, must cross in the twilight dim;
      Good friend, I am building this bridge for him!”

        I love this! A dear friend in St Kitts emailed it to me when he heard my Uncle was ill; my Uncle had a profound impact on him. It arrived mere hours before he died…

          So glad you love it, too. Sweet story about your Uncle! (A former work colleague of mine gave it to me when I retired, saying I was a bridge builder … and I never felt so humbled in my entire career. Smiled my way right to retirement on that one!)

    These are the reason Republicans have been elected – ever since Ike:

    Trump has no chance of victory unless registered Dems don’t vote.

    • July 4, 2020 at 5:51 pm

      folks will come out vote….but we will have to contend with voter suppression…i am in PA…it was so fortuitous that my state passed a law that gave us the ability to vote by mail last year…our first vote by mail was the primary…there were a few kinks but i believe the SOS is working to perfect it….

      not everyone wants to vote by mail…(conspiracy theories abound) so state and local officials also have make sure that voting in person is safe….

    This must be the “good trouble” that our civil rights icons spoke about. There is upheaval and turmoil throughout the land, one by one antiquated customs and traditions are being discarded, and in its place, nothing. We can build anew, a community that respects and cherishes the individual.

      Every time I see transatlantic trade deal I get sick to my stomach because Barack was begging these fools to do the deal. And this was no ordinary deal, this deal could have given us the power in choosing who what, when where and how we do trade deals around the globe. But no, we had the Republicans and some of the Dems trying to gum up the works, I get mad even thinking about it.

      …and the wuss said….

      Thursday morning, a group of health care professionals sent a letter to Kemp calling on the governor to make mask wearing mandatory and rollback the openings of bars and gatherings of more than 25 people.

      While Kemp has said mandatory masking is “a bridge too far” in his eyes…

      ========

      Instead, he’s doing a flyover of Georgia, visiting several cities to *encourage* residents to wear masks, and threatening that college football might be off the table if Georgians don’t start wearing masks in public.

      Grow a spine and just MANDATE the face masks and pull back on the re-openings!!! Your job is to keep Georgians safe, not worry about how much money you and your friends are losing. Believe me, your financial loss affects you a whole lot less than it does small business owners and most hourly workers.

      The group, known as the Not F***ing Around Coalition (NFAC) was comprised of about 100 to 200 people, all dressed in black.

      Shortly after 2 p.m., Bankhead said the group was allowed to come into the park and entered from the West Gate. They then headed toward the lawn area of the park, where the large Confederate carving of Jefferson Davis, Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson on the north face of the mountain can be viewed.

      The group then went to Memorial Hall during their time at the park.

      …one member of the group also spoke about the reason they chose the location, describing the park to fellow members of the group as the “birthplace of the Ku Klux Klan” – referring to how it was restarted atop the mountain in 1915.

      “I want the heart of the Ku Klux Klan to hear me no matter where the f*** you are,” he said. “I’m in your house. Where you at? You made a threat. We don’t threaten.”

      ***The group ultimately left with an escort by park police. Police said they had no issues with the group during their time in the park…[Per park authorities] “We understand the sensitivity of the issues here at the park and the dark past so we respect that and allow them to come in,” he said. “As long as it’s peaceful, which it has been, then that’s fine.”***

    Hesitant to share this publicly, but here goes:

    This is a special day for me in several ways:

    47 years ago today, I was holding my Mother’s hand when her Soul left her body for Heaven.. just before sunrise, she had been ill for many years. I made it to her bedside in the hospital only 10 hours before she went, she was waiting for me… she knew me…

    The wonder of it all, with my Mom, I had been living up in Alaska, set out on the solstice and it was a 12 day journey to Washington DC, but I made it just in time. 1973, the Watergate scandal was opening up, and it felt like going into Mordor, from the beautiful 24 hour daylight in Alaska!

    When my Mother separated from her tired worn-out body (she had 11 children, she had just turned 56), I was lifted partway with her, and we went into a dimension of Light and pure Love I had never known.

    It was not my time, so I had to come back down, it seemed all the lights had gone dark, but I felt her Soul rejoice, and I knew she understood a peace she had not known on earth!

    Well, and because it was a special holiday in the US, 4th of July, you know it gave the word “independence” an entirely new meaning! That night, at our farm, we lit a bonfire, and prayed, and there was one empty chair, several of my brothers were not with us, they had to come down from Canada.. but indeed, that holiday never felt the same again to me or anyone in our family..

    Thank you for letting me share this with you, it is eternal, and I know my life and my life’s work was changed from that day forward!

    Tears of joy and wonder are good tears, yes, she was young, but she had a magnificent life, she was a fireball, and to have been given the privilege of being with her at the close, magnified how powerful the Soul is, if we can leave it free of impediments!!

    Yes, and an opportunity to pass the confines of the physical plane, if we are willing and able, and the true gift is to have a chance to share with others, in hopes of helping them to release whatever obstacles may be holding them back from living in a more full consciousness…

      Couldn’t sleep (extremely rare for me), got out of bed, came online and found this. Thank you for sharing such a beautiful story about such an important time in your life. You are truly mighty and – let’s face it – what a wonderful daughter you were to your dear mother. Think I will be able to sleep now, after hearing how you used your story to build the rest of your life, too, beginning with that first day. So glad “we” have TOD to share such powerful memories with each other. Again, thank you for sharing yours. Goodnight.
