It is always interesting to me that the US Press would rather pay lip service to the Issue & rippling calamity that is Racism than have Folks like Jane Elliot on as a leading expert who gets to be unapologetically raw while tackling racism w/o sugar-coating it. Racism is profitable unfortunately, still in the USA, those in power work OT in perpetuating their commodity.
Thank you for this post, NW.

This is how I feel. I actually feel it’s more than just schools. I thought that we locked down to get rid of the virus, or at least make it a minimal problem. People made giant sacrifices. And now , because Republican governors wanted money rather than people safe, we have exploded this virus and sent hospitals and staff to their breaking point. And I am so angry. Every single day. I’m angry. I never STOP being angry. About COVID. About all the injustice. About paid bounties on the heads of our troops…. and a fraud CIC that doesn’t give a shit. About anything. There’s more to be mad about, but you all know. I’m exhausted of all this shit. I will vote. I will give as I can to candidates that reflect my values ( none Republican because they HAVE no values…. In case we have moderates reading that vasilate) My own school district is left with hard decisions. I feel like we’ll start one way and tweek as needed. It won’t look the same. It won’t feel the same. It just brings me such deep sadness. I feel like it didn’t have to be this way. It didn’t.

      I’m with you on this.

The Orange Oval Office Occupier and his Republican [p]syc[h]ophants — federal and state levels — turned a public health issue into a political battle and a money making venture (because we know that some of the decisions being made had to do with lining pockets). So rather than working to come up with a top-level solution to dealing with this pandemic, it came down to putting partisan labels on approaches. Rather than taking advantage of remedies [e.g. testing kits and best practices] that were already in place, it came down to farming it out to favored companies, some of which had no experience in what was needed, with the primary goal of making a profit. [Relieving this pandemic may have been a secondary goal.] Rather than invoking the Defense Production Act and providing states with much needed Personal Protective Equipment at what could have been most cost effective, states were told to fend for themselves and were competing not just against each other, but also with the federal government to obtain this equipment. Congressional Republicans don’t see the need to supplement finances during this crisis saying that it will motivate people not to go back to work. Trying to take away the ACA rather than working to expand the benefits in response to this pandemic is unconscionable. And even at a state level, [some] Republican governors won’t grow a spine and mandate wearing face masks and slow down reopening businesses for fear of offending the Orange One and his cult. Instead, even with confirmed infections continuing to increase, they “strongly urge,” leaving the local leaders and small business owners to be the baddies.

How does any of their actions promote the general Welfare as ordained in the Constitution which they vowed to support and defend in their oath of office?!?!?!?

And that’s just talking about the pandemic. With everything else…I am beyond exhausted!!!

      DF,

      Hammer, meet nail!

👏🏾All👏🏾Of👏🏾This! I feel it each and every day. So many times during the last three years I’ve attempted to write a sequel to my Nov 13, 2016 piece “Y’all Surrendered to the Confederacy. I predicted #virus45’s administration would be heavily influenced by white supremacists and Putin; however, even I didn’t think it would get this bad. I naively believed that Congress would perform their constitutional role. All hope was dashed when the rethuglican delegation spent 4th of July with putin.

I’m finding that my life long interest in civics, and my military experience in Washington, is both a Blessing and curse. I’m not tired, I’m EXHAUSTED!

    New pre-existing conditions, COVID-19.
    VP BIDEN last week:
“Perhaps most cruelly of all, if Donald Trump has his way, those who have complications from COVID-19
could become the new pre-existing conditions. Some survivors will experience lasting health impacts like lung scarring and heart damage and if Donald Trump prevails in court, insurers would be allowed once again to strip away coverage, jack up premiums, simply because of the battle they survived in fighting coronavirus. Those survivors, having struggled and won their fight of their lives, would have their peace of mind stolen at that moment they needed it most. They would live their lives caught in a vice between Donald Trump’s twin legacies, his failure to protect the American people from the coronavirus, and his heartless crusade to take healthcare protections away from American families. I’ve called on Donald Trump many times to withdraw his lawsuit.
Today I’m renewing that call. Mr. President, drop the lawsuit. Stop trying to get rid of the Affordable Care Act.
Stop taking away people’s healthcare and their peace of mind. Now more than ever, stop trying to steal their peace of mind. I cannot comprehend the cruelty that’s driving him to inflict this pain on the very people he’s supposed to serve.”

    The gold standard.
Congressman Adam Schiff yesterday to Maddow.
On the Presidential Daily Brief (PDB) and reports that the GRU are paying Taliban to kill American soldiers:
“If the public reports are true…and this material was included in the President’s Daily Brief:
That’s considered the gold standard. You don’t put things in the President’s Daily Brief that are speculative or unsupported or sketchy. That’s the gold standard. As an Intel analyst, If your work product makes it into the President’s Daily Brief that’s the most important accolade you can get.”

May I also say, in addition to my comment about my disgust and exhaustion, that I want vengeance. I want justice to rain down like water. I want people to exercise their right to vote and use their collective voices like this country has never seen before. I want the good people of this country to have their “come to Jesus” moment and I’m not religious. I want these wrongs that have lasted and been made for hundreds of years to come to a complete and total end. FULL STOP. Who the FUCK are we that we have thought it fine to keep others down, all the while beating our chests like our shit don’t stink and we’ve been the shining beacon of rights and liberty for all??? The poster child for hypocrisy. We don’t have TIME for this anymore!! We need ALL the people of this country, no matter the color of their skin, their country of birth, or what god they worship, or don’t, to have peace and equality and justice in this country. We will never reach our full potential as a country if we continue to keep others down. Continue to not let all people achieve their best selves. There is no other place to stake out. This is it. We do this now or we disintegrate and perish as a nation. I really believe this is where we are. We need to remember who we can be. Remember the good we can do. There are no short cuts and there is no hiding from the responsibility we have to make this right. I’m so exhausted of half assed. I’m exhausted of the lies we tell ourselves to make all of this ok in our heads. To keep this ugly charade going when we know damn well we must face it and change.
I am so heartened to see these people in the streets. I have to say, aside from my students and my family, this is what gives a smile and brings me joy. They are tenacious and fierce, and that is good. We have work to do. Light the fire in your souls…to the core of our being…and let’s do this together, hand in hand. It’s a pox on our country and we need to get rid of it. No time to waste. I’m tired of being tired and mad all the time. I hope that we work like never before to right all the wrongs. When you know better, you do better. TIck tock.

James Fallow: “Consider a thought experiment:
What if the NTSB were brought in to look at the Trump administration’s handling of the pandemic?’
“As an amateur pilot, I can’t help associating the words catastrophic failure with an accident report.
The fact is, confronting a pandemic has surprising parallels with the careful coordination and organization that has saved large numbers of lives in air travel. Aviation is safe in large part because it learns from its disasters. Investigators from the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board go immediately to accident sites to begin assessing evidence. After months or even years of research, their detailed reports try to lay out the “accident chain” and explain what went wrong. In deciding whether to fly if I’m tired or if the weather is marginal, I rely on a tie-breaking question: How would this look in an NTSB report?”
    https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2020/06/how-white-house-coronavirus-response-went-wrong/613591/

    • July 2, 2020 at 2:06 pm

      James Fallow (Atlantic) to Hayes:
“The reason I make that comparison…air travel has become safe…
It has become safe system because it has taken a very systematic approach to learning from its failures, trying to think carefully about the accident chain and trying to break it at each point along the way. And so this careful learning process is epitomized by the NTSB, the National Transportation Safety Board report whenever there is a disaster. And so I was trying to apply that NTSB mentality to the U.S. history of the last few months.”

Maddow points out to take a note of February 27th:
–Trump spent 45 minutes in the Oval Office with playwrights who were planning a low budget right wing musical attacking United States career intelligence officials.
–Trump met with Diamond and Silk, where he said COVID-19 would “disappear”.
Feb 27th is also the day Trump’s lackeys say he didn’t have time to read the PDB, in which the IC described Russia paying out cash bounties to the Taliban to target American troops. Precisely because the IC concluded the reports were true, he was briefed on that day = The Gold Standard.

    • July 2, 2020 at 3:31 pm

Meanwhile Trump tells his base it’s a hoax – once again siding with Russian denial.
Using that lie, WH says no immediate response is planned. No response after confirmation that American soldiers were killed due to the GRU/Taliban bounty program.? Trump says can’t be true because Russia is denying it…so why did Trump’s people warn the Pentagon about it?
Maddow: “This is your president at work right now. What’s the minimum you might think a president and a government might do for this country? How much lower is this than that bar?”

We have been played by cynical and lying Republicans for years. They talk a big talk but still vote the same. I believe all of this is a way to disarm us, to make us think that we do not need to work as hard. I feel that it is all a set up. There is no need for any of them to make these videos. If they have had a change of heart they can show it in how they GOTV for Biden and by voting for him. Tired performance art; the ballot is all that matters.

We aren’t looking for vengeance nor are we looking for special treatment, though some of us are looking for reparations as a way of trying to right a great wrong. Someone said the other day on twitter that even if we were giving trillions of dollars, and given the ability to utilize every governmental institution for decades, we still wouldn’t be able to catch up. I would like to believe that this is hyperbole, but what I do know is that something was taken from us that money and opportunity cannot fix. In my lifetime there has never been a moment like this where we are all tied together, and that one group of people can strive and the other fail, and think that we are going to come out on the other end whole. America is at a turning point, for better or worst, but she’s at a turning point.
