I do not know if anyone here has experienced this.

I have been in total social isolation since when it was suggested (end of Feb). I believe the science and I am also one of those who have a severely compromised immune system.

My friends have been extremely good and frankly reinforced my belief that I am the luckiest person. For all these weeks, my friends have called and dropped off cooked meals, They have voluntarily done and paid for my grocery shopping and delivered it to my door step. I have not felt isolated and I have more than I need to survive.

Due to an unavoidable situation, I had to step out and go to a store a while ago. Of course, given that I have been in ICU twice before, and even received my last rights from a priest, I was all masked and gloved up.

I planned to spend 15 minutes max in the store.

I did my shopping, ignored all other unmasked shoppers. I then went to pay my bill.

This is the annoying part, there is person at the counter who is supposed to receive my payment.

He is has a mask but he is not wearing it around his nose.

The mask dangling around his next.

Unsolicited, he decides to say he wants to “educate you about how you are going to kill myself because you are breathing in carbon dioxide due to your mask”.

I told him. I am okay. I just need to pay for my stuff and go home.

He insists that I have been watching too much tv. He explains to me how breathing occurs. Added more garbage.

I told him I am fine. But he goes on and on.

Meanwhile, the other unmasked family that is in the store also joins in to “educate me” and laugh.

I told them it is okay. I do not need to be educated. I am a scientist by training (which is true by the way). I just need to pay and leave the store.

Then one tells me that many people who come here and claim be scientists but “all they have is a hunting license”.

I shook my head and resisted telling them my resume (not that it matters to anyone who chooses to follow the advice medical experts).

I just told them, let me pay and go home. I am okay.

My problem is this, everyone is

    (a) listening to the science, seeing the record of people dying, hospitalized, or whose organs have been permanently damaged;

    (b) making a choice of what to do about it (whether mandated or voluntary).

Why do people feel smug and attack people who choose to listen to the facts and follow science.

Especially when I did not make any comment or give any side-eye to those who were not wearing masks.

It will be while before I go out to the store again – not that I was planning to. I see how people can goad a negative reaction from you even when you are minding your business.

Glad to be safely back home. Too many unreasonable people are out and about.

I’m sorry you had to be subject to all this, gcl. What gets me is how they think I WANT their input and opinions. I don’t. You take care of you. Stay safe. ❤️

    • June 23, 2020 at 2:50 pm

What a terrible thing to have to endure just to get some necessities. OMG, I am so sorry you were subjected to such rude and condescending behavior from complete idiots. I would write a letter or phone the store to let them know they have a checker who is not doing his job properly but rather harassing and belittling customers who are there to shop and taking great caution to avoid becoming ill. This is is just terrible!

Sorry you had to endure those horrible people Linda. I echo DF and meta, especially the part about writing or calling the store.

    Senator Sheldon Whitehouse,
Judiciary Committee member, former AG for Rhodes Island, speaks to Hayes,
on the unexplained removal of U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, Geoffrey Berman:
Hayes: “What do you make of this of when you heard this on Friday night. What is this?”
    Senator Whitehouse:
“I don’t know. It’s somewhere between the Gong Show and that black comedy “The death of Stalin”…
First of all there’s the lie about the U.S. Attorney resigning. Then it turns out that nobody bothered to tell Barr they’d forgotten that this was a judicially appointed U.S. Attorney. A rare thing! So it’s actually not clear that Barr can fire him. Which gave him (Berman) the leverage to hold out and demand that instead of the New Jersey U.S. Attorney coming in, that his own District of SDNY deputy take over. And again, the ordinary course. And then they also forgot that there’s a blue slip in the Senate Judiciary Committee. So actually, the new appointee who they supposedly wanted to be Jay Clayton, would have to go through Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand before they could get there. So the amateurishness and the obvious oversight…all of that suggests because Barr is not an idiot, that there are some very powerful forces working just beneath the surface to explain all this peculiarity.”

    • June 23, 2020 at 2:07 pm

Hayes: “There’s a mystery here that to me is unsolved…I mean clearly there was some predicate for this, there was some precipitating incident…we should know what happened here.”
      Senator Whitehouse:
“Yes we should know what happened here. And if we had gavels in the Senate, we would find out. Chairman Nadler does have the gavel in the House. And I hope and expect he will continue to look into this. Because it all just smells really rancid. I think part of it might be that they want to humble the famous Sovereign District of New York. Which is why you bring a New Jersey U.S. Attorney to oversee it – as a part-time job! There’s always been a rivalry between Main Justice and the so-called Sovereign District. But just the bad lawyering here, and the slipshod facts, and being caught lying twice. First by Berman. And second by the president saying, ‘Hey I had nothing to do with this” when Barr said this was the president’s call. It all just smacks of amateurism and bizarre motivations.”

    • June 23, 2020 at 2:09 pm

Hayes: “We know we’re dealing with a bunch of people who don’t have credibility…but they have run this play in D.C. before. There is some precedent for what they’re trying to do.”
      Senator Whitehouse:
“Not only have they run this play. But they really got their fingers burned trying to run it.
As the professional prosecutors left the case, and when Judge Gleason, the specially appointed retired Judge came in, he wrote a blistering condemnation of what was going on. I mean stunning by a former Judge. So all of that really looked horrible for the Department of Justice. And the fact that they would try to replay it while their fingers are still scorched from the last maneuver is again, it’s just really, really peculiar.”

It was so good. I felt like I was sitting right there just part of their intimate conversation. Loved how he connected the dots on what goes on globally and the response (or lack of response) affects our national security. Talking about how they rallied the globe to stop Ebola where it started so it couldn’t spread ;reinforcing the fact that this is how GOOD GOVERNMENT works in contrast to the shitshow and criminal enterprise currently masquerading as our federal government. Watching Joe reaching easily and casually one handed to drink some water out of his glass was just the SHADE I needed and the icing on the cake. LOL Oh and SHAMBOLIC is my new favorite word, I need it on a T-shirt ASAP. LOL

= You lying would-be fascist effers.
Why did you FIRE the entire leadership of Voice of America (78 years)?
And put your know-nothings in charge?
Why did you put your unqualified anti-lgbt Bannon acolyte at the head?
“Within 48 hours, all the network heads were fired within the agency that runs Voice of America…
they`re all ultimately derived from that original mission set in World War II.
It’s Voice of America, but it`s also Radio Free Europe, Radio Liberty,Radio Free Asia. There`s a Cuban Broadcasting Service, the Middle EastBroadcasting Network. They`re all run by the U.S. government. They`re all. supposed to be totally insulated from any domestic partisan politics in this country. They are supposed to be straight news organizations that bring both the values of the free press and actual free,
un-bossed journalism to the world, courtesy of the American people.
But this week, it has all gone haywire.”

Dear TODObots, Discover Humanity is about to release a new behind-the-scenes film, from the journey through Bulgaria..

Shall I post the link here, it will be far from the current critical focus, but no doubt it will be brilliant, and maybe a relief at the same time?

The team is, of course, not traveling or filming at present, and no way to know when the project will resume, Covid19 has changed so many aspects of all our lives.
