Saw this on Twitter and it melted my heart. It was precious, funny, hopeful and sad all at the same time. The parents are so wonderful to help them to do this. I can imagine these babies seeing the protests on tv or maybe a march passed by their home and they asked the parents about it and wanted to participate and this was the result. Maybe this time it will be different and real and lasting change will come.

She’s great! I prefer Kamala Harris as VP and Rice as Sec of State but if he picks Rice for VP, I wouldn’t be too mad.

Give me Harris or Rice, or give me death, just kidding. But I prefer Harris, her elbows seem a little more sharper, Harris is street fighter and she has no problem going to the mattresses. Biden needs a war-time consigliere. In a more stable environment Rice wouldn’t be a bad pick, but we aren’t in a stable environment.

Oh I get what you mean and Kamala’s great (and I could see her in the boring part, taking down Pence at a debate) … but Susan can pack a punch, too, which is one of the biggest reasons I’d add her to the list!

If you haven’t already read it, I recommend the book, Bloods: Black Veterans of the Vietnam War: An Oral History by Wallace Terry. I used it as one of the texts for a freshman writing class I taught many years ago. The author came to speak to my students and he was really terrific. It was published in 1985, groundbreaking.

Check out the Entire video over ajc.com to get a better perspective of what happened. I don’t think we need to abolish the police entirely, we need the police to fight crime. But how the police go about their business needs to be overhauled. Some police shootings are justified and some aren’t. After you watch the video in its entirety, what is your opinion about the shooting?

      • June 13, 2020 at 4:20 pm

I am tired of cops being Judge Jury and executioner…and it is only with Black People…I think of the militia men open carrying…no officer appears to be afraid for his life…there is no swat team…no tanks…no assault weapons…in fact the militia men outgunned the police………. but a man running away from the police deserves to be executed…perhaps they are still enacting the fugitive slave law…

i think that that police need to defunded and restructured

you cannot retrain…police officers to not kill Black people…you have to recruit police officers who won’t kill Black people

“Rachel Maddow reports on the poor job the Trump administration has done in tracking coronavirus cases in nursing homes and providing facilities with much needed equipment, even though nursing homes are where COVID-19 has been causing the most death since its beginnings in the U.S.”
“Despite dire death toll, Trump admin still failing nursing homes”

    • June 13, 2020 at 2:47 pm

Trump negligence and cover-up goes on killing elderly Americans.
His government concealing the death toll numbers in nursing homes, failing to assist in all possible ways:
Nursing homes are the places with the most virus deaths. When the federal government finally published some data, facilities with known deaths had been counted as zeros deaths, clearly undercounted, or politely “incomplete”, or painted half the picture. The data was so wrong that e.g. Detroit Free Press decided it was unprintable. Trump sent useless PPE, gowns were “glorified garbage bags sometimes without armholes. Nursing homes are the most dangerous places, with highest death numbers.
The U.S. has the worst epidemic in the world and the crisis in our nursing homes is deepening
–Trump sees the elderly (basically everybody if not rich) as expendable.
–Martin Gugino who sustained brain damage was slandered by trump. Still no apology.

Didn’t think there was anyone else here who might feel like I do about this particular situation! I felt that way even when there was talk during PBO’s term/walk that the name ought to be changed, though I hadn’t got as far as thinking of a monument marker for Rep Lewis.

Sometimes the struggle is enough to have you suffering from PTSD, especially if you’re from a marginalized community. I don’t know how we even begin to address the mental anguish that the police has caused in our communities. What does reform even look like?

  69. June 13, 2020 at 4:25 pm

“When DT tried to stage a coup”
“”Krugman points out that in the minds of far-right reactionaries,
“the horror of the situation isn’t the possibility that protests might turn violent.
It’s the fact that the protests are happening at all.
And that’s why people like Trump and Tom Cotton have been so eager to send in the military.”
Moreover, Krugman says, reactionaries are terrified to see so many whites marching in the protests.
But Krugman ends his column with a warning: if far-right reactionaries believe they are losing public option, that could make them even worse. “Don’t count the reactionaries out,” Krugman warns.
“They remain extremely dangerous and will become more dangerous if, as seems increasingly likely, Trump finds himself staring at the prospect of electoral defeat.””

So many, many days I just can’t handle so much brutality in our faces suffered by people who just want to live their lives. I’m so disgusted, sickened, unable to parse so much sadism in evidence collected to teach the truth. Making the case that no one deserves to live in the dysfunction of this country as it is now.

“Trump has no grand strategy – and he’s going all in with losers”
      Susan Glasser:
“I know it is hard to remember all the crazy things that happen in the course of a week in Trump’s America,
but I will try hard to remember this one:
      a week when I saw troops in the streets and worried about a years-long economic crisis;
      a week when an untamed pandemic killed up to a thousand Americans a day;
a week when massive nationwide protests suggested that our dysfunctional, gridlocked political system might finally actually do something about the plague of police brutality and systemic racism.
And then there was the President,
who chose to spend the week refighting the Civil War—on the losing side.”

      • June 13, 2020 at 5:17 pm

“On Thursday, the president travelled to Dallas, Texas where one of the events was a roundtable discussion on race and policing.
The problem is that a few key players were not invited:
Dallas Police Chief U. Reneé Hall, Sheriff Marian Brown and District Attorney John Creuzot, all of whom happen to be African American.
“I’’m not going to credit him with any kind of grand strategy.
His instincts are racist and he projects that onto the electorate, assuming that he can win once again by fanning the flames. Is America ready to prove him wrong? We’ll see.”
