Fortunately, I voted absentee ballot. All these issues – not to mention being in the middle of a pandemic – helps make the case for mail-in voting.

Yep. That’s the way to go these days. Unfortunately, still a lot of people didn’t receive their ballots in the mail despite requesting them far in advance.

        • June 9, 2020 at 6:34 pm

My husband and I did our request online at the same time. I got mine within a few days. Had to do a second request for his, which fortunately, it came in time to return it and have it received and accepted.

One of the reasons I’ve been a big fan of Joe Biden for decades is that he does not lead because of ego. And Dr. Jill is the same way, in everything she offers. The next months until the election are going to seem like years to me – and to many of us here and many others, I know – until we can get them in the White House.

Tonight, however, I’m thinking about one person who also does not lead because of ego or self-aggrandizement, even though he knows he’s good – Ha! – and that person is Barack Obama. Were it not for his rise to the presidency and his near-flawless performance while serving as our 44th, while putting up with everything he did … if we all hadn’t seen that with our own eyes … I’m pretty sure the mark he left on Americans and citizens around the globe would not have been there subliminally to give so many in this country the passion and realism they needed to stand up and become dues-paying members of what’s called the Black Lives Matter movement, following the murder of George Floyd.

This is very wordy, and I’m sorry, but you guys get it already, and I’m too sleepy to edit. ❤ President Obama lit a spark that all people of good will felt for eight years and counting. When he borrowed from the Hopi and said "We are the ones we've been waiting for … we are the change that we seek," it got buried in our collective consciousness forever, young or old. This is part of the reason so many white Americans – especially the younger ones who haven't "known" too many presidents – didn't just hate the murder, hate the reminder of the systemic racism, and then go about their business as usual, but decided to hit the streets and do something about it. We're also sick and tired of being sick and tired. Sick of the racism. Sick about the little children who have to suffer it. Sick of all of it.

I'll leave it at that, other than to say that First Lady Michelle Obama and her "when they go low, we go high" admonition kicked in this month, within our hearts, as though she had tattooed the words on our chests. I love both of them and their family, and Joe and Jill and their family, as though they were part of my family.

How lucky are we to "get it"!

    • June 10, 2020 at 6:00 am

      {{{{APPLAUSE}}}}

President and Mrs. Obama changed our lives for the better in countless and enduring ways. They truly did give us hope, even now in these darkest times. I will always be proud of them and grateful for their service and their example of all we can and should be. Their vision, intelligence, humor and compassion will stay with us forever.

Joe and Jill Biden were a part of that and will once again show us what having a decent and honorable North Star means. Thank God for their decency and humanity in these worst of times.

On the 26th of May, ever since I saw the wickedly racist hateful lynching, I stated to my family members that the look of satisfaction on the Killer’s face looked personal. Unbeknownst to me, on Wed, 27 of May, the Club owner where both men worked said that Derek Chauvin was employed there for 19yrs & I misheard her saying that George Floyd was employed there for 17yrs. Our local news in MN said on the 28th of May, it was 17yrs for the ex-cop & yrs for George Floyd. Mr. Floyd moved to MN in 2014.

Hoping and praying and wishing that Joe will not make the mistake of choosing someone that he feels will be safe. Senator Kamala Harris, especially at this point in our history, is the best choice that will galvanize voters of all ages from many diverse backgrounds and education levels. She, of course, is a badass at any time who has all of the skills and the character needed for public office. I want to change Maya Rudolph’s “You could have had a bad bitch” to We have a bad bitch VP.”

      • June 10, 2020 at 9:13 am

AGREED. She has been a star for years and I’m so glad she’s stepping into the spotlight so genuinely and gracefully and forcefully.

  53. June 10, 2020 at 6:43 am

I’ve long thought this and have mentioned it but I just feel this really means a lot to Joe. And having seen Kamala and Beau together in person, there was truly a really lovely closeness between them.

I early voted back in March just before the decision was made to postpone the primary (first to May; then to June). When I voted, the new machines were being used.

TWO AND A HALF MONTHS LATER, the live voting was a catastrophe. Just think how much worse it would have been had the primary been held when originally scheduled. Were it not for the pandemic, the suppression would have been even worse as many more people were able to vote absentee ballot than would normally have. Even with absentee ballots being an option, there were still too many who never received their absentee ballot, or received it too late to mail in.

What was the rush to use the new voting machines? The timing — both to implement and the fact that it is a presidential election year — was a recipe for disaster. Intentional? Probably as it also gives the Secretary of State *some* cover to blame local election officials. And who profited from this decision (besides the fact that the company utilized was not the first choice of the committee that was tasked to evaluate the various options)?

IMO Georgia just made the argument for mail-in voting.

My heart truly aches for everyone who has to be made to feel punished for exercising their basic right to vote. Another piece of Republican cruelty we need to root out.

Many Black voters are going to feel betrayed if he overlooks her and chooses Amy or Elizabeth. We/they will see that once again a Black woman (yes, I know he is also Indian, but she is sees only as Black in this country) has done all of the work and has been pushed aside for “Miss Ann” once again. It will cost him votes and create ill feeling, especially among young people.
