Racist in chief, friend to Bolsanaro, Bin Salman, Jong Un, trying to act as if he has their powers.
Calling for violence, as he did in 1990 when he praised the Chinese for the bloody massacre in Tiananmen Square. Should be calling for violence but keeps letting his filthy fascist out of the bag.

Did you see George Floyd’s brother Rodney on O’Donnell last night.
He spoke about the 2nd video which had just been released. From another angle, 3 other officers are crouched down along the length of George’s body. Rodney says they are all holding him down, one on his back, another on his legs, the one on his neck. Attorney saying an EMT was there and she asked 16 times “Can I just take his pulse?”. No one could breath in that situation. Face down and handcuffed also. Rodney said his brother went unconscious. But they didn’t let up until 9 minutes had gone by. What more do you need?
ARREST ALL OF THESE OFFICERS NOW!!!

As Rodney Floyd was talking, Velshi was on the ground in Minneapolis, the fires just ramping up.
Velshi stressed that the protests had been calm and peaceful all day, no police, the police building empty.
Then after a group approached the fence, police appeared atop the building and began firing tear gas.
It was explained that tear gas can catch fire and it sure seemed that way.
When there is looting and violence after a very long day of peaceful protest, I think of a small group behind it.
(The armed white guys don’t get into looting you will notice.) But I always question exactly who it is that starts all that, who is behind it, and if they are paid to make trouble.

    • May 29, 2020 at 11:11 am

Were the flare-ups in response to the 2nd video? Because the officers were not “Standing Around”.
They were literally down on the ground, working together, as Mr. Floyd was determinedly suffocated.

“As Floyd is on the ground, MPD officer Chauvin leans on his neck and Officer Tou Thao looks on.
The video also shows two other officers on the ground helping Chauvin subdue Floyd.”

  45. May 29, 2020 at 2:04 pm

President Obama’s Taskforce On 21st Century Policing:
“In December 2014, President Barack Obama appointed a task force on 21st century policing charged with identifying best practices and offering recommendations on how policing practices can promote effective crime reduction while building public trust. To inform its work, the task force facilitated seven listening sessions, hearing testimony from 140 witnesses and reviewing volumes of written testimony, and submitted its final report to the President in May 2015. This implementation guide is a companion to the task force report. It is a tool that provides guidance on implementing the task force’s 59 recommendations and 92 action items and serves as a resource for law enforcement, local government, community members, and other stakeholders interested in concrete examples of ways to turn the task force recommendations into action.”
–extensive document also lays out how-to community action.

    • May 29, 2020 at 2:05 pm

Testimony and hearings were organized around the following six pillars:
      1. Building Trust and Legitimacy
      2. Policy and Oversight
      3. Technology and Social Media
      4. Community Policing and Crime Reduction
      5. Training and Education
      6. Officer Wellness and Safety

    • May 29, 2020 at 2:07 pm

“Each recommendation was developed, vetted, and approved by the task force by consensus.
The task force comprised leaders from law enforcement, police unions, academia, and civil rights organizations as well as community members.”

    • May 29, 2020 at 2:10 pm

      Guidebook:
The final report contains a number of underlying themes on which specific recommendations are based.
      1. Change the culture of policing
      2. Embrace community policing
      3. Ensure fair and impartial policing
      4. Build community capital
      6. Technology
(The final report recommendations (no longer) found at http://cops.usdoj.gov/policingtaskforce.)

(Section of VP Biden’s moving speech today):
…The original sin of this country still stains our nation today…but it is always there…
In weeks like this we can see it plainly that we are a country with an open wound. None of us can turn away,
none of us can be silent. None of us can any longer hear the words “I can’t breath” and do nothing…..
Every day African Americans go about their lives with constant anxiety and trauma wondering “Who’ll be next?”
Imagine if every time your husband or son, wife or daughter, left the house you feared for their safety from bad actors and bad police. Imagine if you had to have that talk with your child about not asserting your rights, taking the abuse handed out to them so, so, just so, they can make it home. Imagine having police called on you just for sitting in Starbucks or running and AirB&B, or watching birds? You know this is the norm black people in this country deal with, they don’t have to imagine it. The anger and frustration and the exhaustion is undeniable.
That’s not the promise of America. It’s long past time that we made the promise of this nation real for all people.
You know this is no time for incendiary tweets. This is no time to encourage violence. This is a national crisis.
We need real leadership right now. Leadership that will bring everyone to the table so we can take measures to root out systemic racism. It’s time for us to take a hard look at the uncomfortable truths.
It’s time for us to face that deep open wound we have in this nation. We need justice for George Floyd.”

One thing I have noticed is if too high of a charge is implemented and it cannot be proved to a jury without a shadow of a doubt he/they can get off as innocent with no charge. Having been on a jury it is more complicated than it appears. Apparently in many states if too high of a charge is made it cannot be lowered later. It is better to charge too low and raise it than not be able to beat the defense. The 3rd degree has a longer penalty than the other one plus they added another charge in there to make it 25 years.

      • May 29, 2020 at 9:33 pm

    it was not an accident.

It was cruel, suffocating torture for the last 9 min of George Floyd’s life.

    Goodnight TOD.

For many weeks after our city lockdown, I could not hear any birds singing each morning as I normally do. I thought it really odd that this would be the case, especially since there weren’t any cars or busses on the street as usual, nothing to interfere with their song But about a week ago, they returned! I think maybe there may have been some other predators around to scare them off? I don’t know. I’m just happy they’re back!

Meeting with Attorney General Eric Holder while on vacation six years ago this summer. Here are excerpts from President Obama’s statement following his meeting about the situation in Ferguson, Missouri.⁣ ⁣ “I know that many Americans have been deeply disturbed by the images we’ve seen in the heartland of our country…⁣ ⁣ … it’s important to remember how this started. We lost a young man, Michael Brown, in heartbreaking and tragic circumstances. He was 18 years old. His family will never hold Michael in their arms again. And when something like this happens, the local authorities –- including the police -– have a responsibility to be open and transparent about how they are investigating that death, and how they are protecting the people in their communities.⁣ ⁣ There is never an excuse for violence against police, or for those who would use this tragedy as a cover for vandalism or looting. There’s also no excuse for police to use excessive force against peaceful protests, or to throw protestors in jail for lawfully exercising their First Amendment rights. And here, in the United States of America, police should not be bullying or arresting journalists who are just trying to do their jobs and report to the American people on what they see on the ground. Put simply, we all need to hold ourselves to a high standard, particularly those of us in positions of authority.⁣ ⁣ …let’s remember that we’re all part of one American family. We are united in common values, and that includes belief in equality under the law; a basic respect for public order and the right to peaceful public protest; a reverence for the dignity of every single man, woman and child among us; and the need for accountability when it comes to our government. ⁣ ⁣ So now is the time for healing. Now is the time for peace and calm on the streets of Ferguson. Now is the time for an open and transparent process to see that justice is done.” ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ ⁣
