Trump replaced Postmaster General Megan Brennan, the postal board’s most experienced member,
with outsider Louis Dejoy who is a multi-million dollar donor to Trump”s party.
    STATEMENT from Mark Dimondstein,
President of the American Postal Workers Union:
“Fifty years ago, postal workers waged a heroic nationwide strike to win better pay, benefits and the right to collective bargaining. This strike also recreated the United States Postal Service as an independent agency,
designed to be free from the political patronage and cronyism that had plagued the old Post Office Department.
The APWU is deeply concerned with the appointment process to make Mr. Louis DeJoy,
a multi-million-dollar major donor to President Trump the next Postmaster General, and whether the Administration has returned to the days of political interference and patronage….
He can choose to be a Postmaster General who implements the destructive plans of this White House:
raising postal rates, cutting services, undermining stable union and family-sustaining jobs and selling the public Postal Service to corporations for their private profit. And if that is his choice, Mr. DeJoy will be met with stiff resistance from postal workers and the people of this country.”

“the coronavirus pandemic is an opportunity for the Trump regime to further advance its campaign against the Constitution, democracy, human rights, human dignity and freedom across all
areas of American society.” (Jason Stanley)
“When there is such extreme partisan capture of our country’s institutions,
does there really need to be a fascist or authoritarian takeover? With gerrymandering, voter suppression, control of the courts and making voting difficult in other ways, one does not need an explicit takeover and overthrow of democracy by an authoritarian movement to exercise almost the same level of power and control.”

“The notion that “Life is always a struggle, the weak will die” is central to fascism.”
“The friend-enemy distinction is at the heart of fascist ideology.”
“The official leaders in a full-on authoritarian regime or failing democracy then deny
      responsibility for the violence.”

25,000 deaths in our nursing homes, test every nursing home.
= Test staff first, then test residents.
    (text is clipped)
Maddow: “I mean we know where it incubates and multiplies, we know that the people most at risk of getting this virus and dying from it are Americans in nursing homes. Testing in nursing homes does sound like a manifestly good idea, even if it is 2 months and 25,000 deaths late.”
Dr. Michael Wasserman, President of the CA Association of Longterm Care Medicine:
“So let me be completely unequivocal about this. If testing is available, not testing nursing home staff and residence is both medically unsound and unethical…we need to actually start with the staff, because as you’ve mentioned, they’re the vectors. They are the ones bringing the virus into facilities, and they’re also the ones
dying from it when it goes unfettered in one of these facilities.”

    • May 13, 2020 at 1:14 pm

We need a national long term care task force.
Maddow: “the President…appeared to literally just be entertaining that idea for the first time because a reporter asked him about it. It makes me worry that there isn’t anything behind this recommendation that is going to actually facilitate nursing homes getting the testing done.”
      Wasserman:
“This is what’s been bothering a lot of us in the field of Geriatrics and Long Term Care Medicine for over six weeks. It’s one thing to say to nursing homes “We want you to test”. It’s another thing to actually have it happen. And in fact I’ve had stories from many of my colleagues around the country of facilities, of nursing homes and other assisted living facilities either resisting or avoiding testing. And that is absolutely unacceptable. The federal government, state and local governments, they need to be 110% behind testing in both nursing homes and assisted living facilities. And there should be no equivocation on this issue. And it needs to happen literally yesterday.”

    • May 13, 2020 at 1:16 pm

Maddow: “It strikes me that the reason that a lot of homes are resisting testing, to the extent that they are, is because they afraid of what will happen when they inevitably get very high test results….It seems we need a universal expectation that this information must be collected, it must be disclosed and it will not result in punishment. It will result in assistance.”
      Wasserman:
“I understand (those concerns)…but keep in mind this is a virus that when it gets into a nursing home or assisted living facility, can have a 30 to 40% mortality rate…To me if anyone of us has a loved one in a nursing home or assisted living facility and they have the capability of testing, you should be literally screaming at the top of your lungs that they need to start by testing their staff and then by testing the residents. In that order.”

If this is the test I heard talk about this morning, if you get a positive, it’s most likely correct. If you get a negative, you should follow it up with one of the other tests, which would take longer and is more accurate, to confirm the results.

And all across D.C. tonight motherfuckers are deleting all kinds of stuff off their phones, which by the way can’t really be deleted. And Burr is going to sing, he’s going to sing a lovely song.

Just thinking. If Trump and the GOP intend to hide the true count of US cases and deaths from Coronavirus perhaps states controlled by the GOP governors will try to do the same thing like Florida, Texas, etc.

If people who are at high risk or elevated risk could soon get medical grade N95 masks from a reputable source without gouging and they were determined to wear them we might be able to protect more people of color, the seniors, people that might get large exposure (extended time in a situation with a heavy viral load) and keep ourselves safe,. We should be able to get these things at a reasonable cost and use them if we are going to be asked to go to work or open up our communities.
