Even dumbo at 1600 mentioned “adding to Medicaid,” today, and I wondered if those RWNJ governors who don’t want an expansion of Medicaid perked up.

“Paul Romer, has called for the capacity to run 20 million to 30 million tests a day.
Even this has been criticized as insufficient for the task of identifying enough of the asymptomatic spreaders
to keep the pandemic in check.”

    • April 27, 2020 at 3:43 pm

U.S. currently: 1.5 million to 2 million tests per week.
Dr. Fauci merely recommends doubling coronavirus testing.
“Test millions. Test early. Test late. Test over and over. Test until the whole damn pandemic is over.” (Vox)
= How about testing our KAMIKAZE HEALTHCARE WORKERS…say twice a week?

Yes we were duped into doubling carbon output over the last 30 years.
      Let’s end it starting now.
      –Carbon Neutral 2030.
      –Carbon Free 2050.

      • April 27, 2020 at 4:01 pm

        In the 40+ years:
Since Exxon scientists predicted exactly what the fallout of burning fossil fuels would do to our planet,
and covered it up with disinformation:
Earthlings have doubled the amount of carbon in the atmosphere.

Am I the only one noticing (Ha!) that Kamala Harris is “everywhere” these days? She is addressing a much wider assortment of topics in a much more in-depth way, including legislation, than I’ve noticed before. I’m thinking she’s gotten some type of “nudge” to start early, etc., etc.

I know you can follow my drift. Wasn’t going to mention yet, but me and my big mouth!

I had that same notion, J!
        Love to see it! 😉

      • April 28, 2020 at 5:35 am

The thing about Kamala is she is a workhorse and very passionate about the issues, always has been. She was ghosted by the press during her run for the WH while others took her good ideas and got the credit. Now the spotlight is on her because she has been mentioned so much as a VP candidate and Joe himself has said she’s a worthy candidate. She says she doesn’t know if she’s being vetted so that is some sort of indication that perhaps she is not (or perhaps it’s too early in the process?) and she is just carrying on in her own pursuits but I’m happy to see and hear her leadership in any case while we can. No matter what happens, though, she will campaign hard for Joe and all down ballot because that is how she rolls.

Because I was busy (and distracted), I was listening to Thom Hartmann today after the Stephanie Miller Show. (Keeps me sane and laughing, at least for those 3 hours). Thom’s guest was Congressman Rihanna from CA. A caller asked specifically and in great detail about the kids in cages, families separated, etc. That entire mess. Cong. Rihanna, who serves on the Oversight Committee, replied that they are “told/assured” by the administration that all the families have been reunited, blah, blah, blah. He said they are repeatedly told that and then he said, “We do not believe them every time they tell us that.” What a disaster. 😦 😦 😦

A lovely group of supportive people telling their stories.
Dr. Biden: “Home is where we find the incredible courage to live authentically.”
Just to mention one participant, Danica Roem, VA House of Delegates:
Right now “we don’t have a VP telling transgender people our lives are worth protecting.”
Danica told the story of how happy Joe was to learn she’d won in 2017 + their various interactions.
All agreed: That VP Biden is for the equality of everyone everywhere. He is fighting for the Equality Act.

      • April 27, 2020 at 7:39 pm

        Danica Roem today:
“This is soul-crushing: a hero NYC ER doctor killed herself in Virginia after being on the frontlines of saving those she could while seeing so many others die. I can’t fathom the mental health toll so much death takes on those working to keep people alive.”
—Our health care workers are going through hell. In sum, what is this administration doing for them?

I’m excited to let you know that on May 6, @Netflix will release BECOMING, a documentary film directed by @nadiahallgren that looks at my life and the experiences I had while touring following the release of my memoir. Those months I spent traveling—meeting and connecting with people in cities across the globe—drove home the idea that what we share in common is deep and real and can’t be messed with. In groups large and small, young and old, unique and united, we came together and shared stories, filling those spaces with our joys, worries, and dreams. We processed the past and imagined a better future. In talking about the idea of ‘becoming,’ many of us dared to say our hopes out loud. I treasure the memories and that sense of connection now more than ever, as we struggle together to weather this pandemic, as we care for our loved ones, and cope with loss, confusion, and uncertainty. It’s hard these days to feel grounded or hopeful, but I hope that like me, you’ll find joy and a bit of respite in what Nadia has made. Because she’s a rare talent, someone whose intelligence and compassion for others comes through in every frame she shoots. Most importantly, she understands the meaning of community, the power of community, and her work is magically able to depict it. As many of you know, I’m a hugger. My whole life, I’ve seen it as the most natural and equalizing gesture one human can make toward another—the easiest way of saying, “I’m here for you.” And this is one of the toughest parts of our new reality: Things that once felt simple—going to see a friend, sitting with someone who is hurting, embracing someone new—are now not simple at all. But I’m here for you. And I know you are here for one another. Even as we can no longer safely gather we need to stay open and able to put ourselves in other people’s shoes. Empathy is our lifeline here. Let’s use it to redirect our attention toward what matters most, and find ways to better remake the world in the image of our hopes. Even in hard times, our stories help cement our values and strengthen our connections. Sharing them shows us the way forward. I love and miss you all. #IAmBecoming.

Friends – and the grandkids (not to mention my son was a major nerd!!!). My youngest granddaughter is now 16. It seems every school year I momentarily forget what her answer will be, as I ask “What’s your favorite class this year?” Nine times out of 10, she answers, “Science” – or some Math class! To which I respond, “I’m more the words and people type.” Then we share a laugh. At least, I think we’re sharing a laugh – maybe she’s laughing “at” me. (Who cares – I’ll love her just the same!) 🙂
