How lovely to see the Obamas stepping up more publicly in addition to all their behind the scenes work mentoring young people around the world.

  2. April 26, 2020 at 1:27 pm

    We will be old.
TOGETHER for our elderly, vulnerable, voiceless:
The lights are flashing and there is no escaping the virus. Dr. Michael Wasserman, President of the California Association of Long-term Care Medicine. He is passionate about respecting the dignity and autonomy of the most vulnerable in our society, working with others across the clinical spectrum who share that passion. Outbreaks of COVID-19 are everywhere in our nursing homes, including the “gold standard” places. Maddow continues to research local news across the country in the dire absence of national or federal reporting on nursing homes.
    Dr. Wasserman:
“Nursing homes are accelerators for this virus.”
“An outbreak has no reflection on the quality of the nursing home. It’s what you do about it that matters. And nursing homes across the country cannot be afraid to test. Its really critical.”
“There are a lot facilities out there with staff and residents with the virus and they don’t know it. if they just go about their regular day, they’re going to become another Kirkland.”
There are protocols to protect us:
“Once you know you’ve got the virus in your nursing home, if you move into going full bore on your protection… you can actually make a difference.”

    • April 26, 2020 at 1:29 pm

Maddow: “Do you think that we could act systematically as a country to get testing and get ppe,
and get medical consultations into these facilities, to bring more facilities up to that high standard that you are describing quickly?”
Dr. Wasserman: “Not only can we, we have no choice. We have to.
This is where the virus grows and accelerates, and leads to more people back in the hospital. So if we don’t focus on our nursing homes and assisted living facilities and protect the individuals there – you know I use the word skyrocket – that is true, the numbers of folks with the virus and the numbers who will succumb will dramatically go up. So I think it is absolutely critical as a country that we focus on getting ppe and make testing readily available. We’ve actually developed what we call our ‘quadruple aim’ which is abundant personal protective equipment, readily available testing, stellar infection control, and then the final piece is all nursing homes need to be running in their emergency preparedness mode, because it is a lot of hard work, and one last comment I have to make is:
The front lines staff in these nursing homes are putting their lives on the line,
and often some of these folks barely make a living wage, if that.
And they are doing incredible work right now protecting the older adults, the vulnerable in our country.”

    • April 26, 2020 at 1:30 pm

Maddow: “Do you think it makes sense that community groups, and local governments, and civic organizations should be adopting their local nursing home and trying to figure out what they need can be either donated or organized for, to try to surface their problems, to try to get them help,
and to make them more visible in terms of what they need?”
Dr. Wasserman: “Absolutely. Honestly in a lot of places, the state, the federal, the counties have failed in this. And this is what makes America great is that we do step up and we do help each other. I do think absolutely everyone should be doing everything they can right now to bring support to nursing homes, and assisted livings, and I’d mention one other group. There are these small group homes that have like six or seven seniors living in them. They are also at very high risk. So all those areas. We all need to be doing everything in our power to help prevent the virus from running amok within the walls of those living facilities.”

    • April 26, 2020 at 1:32 pm

imo our nursing homes, assisted living facilities, prisons, and child facilities are the “hidden” victims
of this virus. Millions of people who without a voice. It is too easy for the Trump Administration to cover up and lie about the data and the death toll. And we must not allow it.
We cannot allow Trump and Barr to hide these truths.

Trump’s only true skill is the con; his only fundamental belief is that the United States is the birthright of straight, white, Christian men, and his only real, authentic pleasure is in cruelty. It is that cruelty, and the delight it brings them, that binds his most ardent supporters to him, in shared scorn for those they hate and fear: immigrants, black voters, feminists, and treasonous white men who empathize with any of those who would steal their birthright. The president’s ability to execute that cruelty through word and deed makes them euphoric. It makes them feel good, it makes them feel proud, it makes them feel happy, it makes them feel united. And as long as he makes them feel that way, they will let him get away with anything, no matter what it costs them.

One must wonder about these career federal officials and top military brass that are witnessing this. Even if many of the tend towards the conservative end of the spectrum, most of them (Yes, NOT ALL) are decent, educated, dedicated professionals that worked their asses off to get to where they are. How do they sit there and “Oh, he’s an imbecile AND he’s INSANE. Insane+imbecile. Oh, and look, completely corrupt, conspires against the American people. WELL, this isn’t good, but I do need this gig, so…. ”

It’s unclear how much money is still left in the state’s unemployment trust fund, which started the year at $2.6 billion — but without intervention, it may last only a matter of weeks.”
      —Enter the “reckless” “insane” reopening.
—21,000 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in GA. More testing would see that number keep rising.
