1. As a public service, here are Easter wishes from a Christian president: "Michelle and I join our fellow Christians in observing Good Friday and celebrating Easter this weekend. This is a time to remember the sacrifices made for us and hold all who suffer close to our hearts…
2. "Yet it is also a time to rejoice, give thanks for the Resurrection, and unite with Christians around the world in proclaiming, 'Christ has risen; He has risen indeed.' We wish all who celebrate a blessed and joyful Easter." — Barack Obama, March 25, 2016

This is awful. I’m sorry for your loss and that your family is going through such a nightmare. Thank you for taking time to share the story in the midst of it all. I had no clue what people go through when this happens. Sending prayers for peace and comfort for you all.
The Postal Accountability and Enhancement Act of 2006 was signed into law by George Bush.
It “gave the Postal Service new accounting and funding rules for its retiree pension and health benefits.
Up until 2006, the USPS funded those obligations on a pay-as-you-go-basis,
pulling out of its pension fund and adding to it as retirees’ costs came in.
But the PAEA required the Postal Service to calculate ALL of its likely pension costs over the next 75 years,
and then sock away enough money between 2007 and 2016 to cover most of them.”
The whole idea of a mortgage is you pay over time…
But say you had to first set aside $hundreds of thousands to cover your mortgage,
and on top of that make regular monthly payments for 30 years? Huh?
In 2012 the USPS started defaulting on the PAEA payments, losing $62.4 billion between 2007 and 2016.
–Getting rid of the requirement would’ve made the USPS profitable again.
“The Postal Service’s $15 billion debt is a direct result of the mandate,”
the Inspector General wrote in 2015.
“This requirement has deprived the Postal Service of the opportunity to invest in capital projects
and research and development.”
“Postal Service is expected to compete with the private market, and fund all of its costs out of its own revenue, without subsidies from the rest of government.” Major Cinderella sabotage?
Playing “hardball on crisis aid gives Trump and others in his administration
the leverage they’ve been seeking for years to gut the public Postal Service.”
With the coronavirus pandemic fallout, mail volume and revenue could drop by 50% in 2020.
The stimulus bill provides a weak $10 billion, compared to what’s been offered to UPS and Fedex.
“But if Trump really wants to to fix the Post Office, he should tell Congress to fix the PAEA.”
imo
If Trump gets his way we’ll have an iffy, expensive private outfit in charge of our mail-in votes.
Question: If Trump replaces USPS with a private company that he endorses,
how can Americans trust the mail-in election outcome?

(My words): Dr. Romer’s model gradually reduces the rate of infections to the point of no more infections
by repeatedly isolating 70% of confirmed cases. It will require testing 10 to 15 million healthcare workers every day along with massive continuous testing of our entire population.
= A gigantic project that Paul Romer believes is well within our capability.
He is correct and doing so, which we have all the necessary skills to achieve, would have cost far less in monetary terms, let alone, saved countless lives.

From Dingus McGee USPS thread (c/o Meta) above:
-The USPS is better than a private system because it is obligated to serve ALL AMERICANS. Imagine rural Americans getting left out in the cold for the simple reason that it isn’t profitable to deliver where they live.
-The USPS is the greatest example of government efficiency. It’s a shining beacon of all that government can do when just given the chance, so naturally conservatives hate it.
-Only agency that is forced to pre-fund its pension 100% b/c they want to kneecap it and make it look bad.

-amazing example of government efficiency
-CHEAP, FAST MAILING

-You think small businesses are doing badly right now – wait until the USPS closes and every home business comes to a complete halt.
-Also a huge employer of people with disabilities. The amount of deaf employees they have on staff is impressive. -My father’s deaf and has comfortably worked there for 20+ years!
-CO uses a vote by mail system exclusively, which means we have secure elections with high voter turnout. It’s a more democratic system. Given that Election Day is not a holiday, not everyone can afford to take off from work and vote. Vote by mail works.
-Not only is it the leading employer of women, PIC, and veterans, but it also provides equal pay & benefits because of a strong, unionized workforce.
-If the post office closes, NO MORE MAIL IN BALLOTS FOR VOTING!!!
-You should add (and I just learned this) cremated human remains can ONLY be shipped via USPS. No USPS no getting grandma home.
-Over 60 million people in rural America rely on the post office and its services.
-The post office also forces the only other two major shippers, Fedex and UPS, to keep costs down. Without the USPS as a competitor, their prices would skyrocket.
-The only way to promote healthy competition is to @ Save The Post Office.
-If @USPS is so efficient and essential why is it always broke? (R pol strategy explained higher up on the thread)
-Seems like Trump will do anything to win the election.
