I am doing hard isolation because of my bout with pericarditis and pneumonia a few years ago. It took me nine weeks to recover. So I’m having stuff delivered but I miss all the lovely sweet and kind grocery clerks I encounter in my routine shopping runs who share stories about their families and their lives with great humor. Can’t imagine what they’re going through.

Treasury memo obtained by The Post lists goals for $1 trillion coronavirus stimulus plan, including two checks for many Americans

The White House would also seek to impose some limits on executive compensation at airline companies that receive emergency loans. The Treasury document shows the parameters of intensifying talks with lawmakers, and discussions remain ongoing.

“These 10 states still won’t let voters register to vote online
    for the November general election:
Arkansas, Maine, Mississippi, Montana, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Oklahoma (passed by lawmakers but still not fully implemented), South Dakota, Texas. Wyoming
“Collectively, these 10 states account for 17% of the U.S. population, or one in six Americans.
Americans must have the option to register safely and securely online when in-person opportunities will be limited for the foreseeable future. Each of these states must immediately enact online voter registration. If they do not, Congress has the power to mandate and fund the shift to online voter registration to ensure
the November general elections can still proceed amid this historic global crisis.”

“No need to hoard: There’s plenty of food in the system
Industries adjust to pared-back hours and shoppers cause unexpected surges, but numbers point to plenty of supply.
Don’t be fooled by the barren grocery store shelves:
There’s plenty more food on the way.
Meat, dairy and produce groups as well as federal regulators say the U.S. has an ample amount of products in cold storage to handle the unexpected demand for food and household products from Americans.”

    “As the global crisis intensifies,
Republicans have embraced a series of specific economic policies:
aggressive government spending, Federal Reserve intervention, direct federal payments to individuals, widespread rescues of domestic industries on the brink, and an enthusiastic embrace of Keynesian economics.
…All of these new Republican positions are, to be sure, the right ones.
But for those of us who followed the Great Recession — and policymakers’ efforts to combat that crisis — it’s hard not to notice that GOP officials have adopted an entirely new economic philosophy.
Indeed, when the economy was falling off a cliff in 2009, Republicans rejected the very idea of a federal stimulus package, stressed deficit reduction, endorsed a lengthy government spending freeze, and urged the Federal Reserve not to take steps to help the economy recover.
Even after then-President Barack Obama signed the Recovery Act into law in early 2009,
several GOP governors said they didn’t want any resources from the new law,
insisting at the time that the nation couldn’t afford to spend the money.
Accused of trying to sabotage the economy because there was a Democrat in the White House,
Republicans took great offense — insisting that their positions were simply an extension of their genuine beliefs about economic policy.”

“In a surprising development that shocked his supporters,
the Prince of Darkness today announced his resignation, effective immediately.
“I can’t keep up with Donald Trump” Mephistopheles complained.
According to an insider close to both sides, negotiations were tough, but the devil finally agreed
to let Trump own and star on The Apprentice – Hades.
“Whoever has a controlling interest in that owns Hell,” the insider explained, adding, “I don’t really care, do you?”
Asked when the series will begin, Satan was definitive.
“Given Donald’s health, filming will begin ASAP,” he said.
When questioned further about his own role in the series, the Anti-Christ was uncharacteristically modest:
“I’ll just be a mere contestant. We’re expecting an all-star cast: Rush Limbaugh, most of the leadership of Iran.”
“The competition will be fierce! But with Trump running the show, it’s well worth it to be a contestant,” he noted.
“I’d sell my soul to Trump for the chance to learn from the best.”
Looking back on his accomplishments, the King of Hell was nostalgic: “It’s been a good few millennia,” he noted. “War, pestilence, bigotry, Lindsey Graham. I’m proud of my record.”
“I certainly never expected to be replaced. Still, it’s important to recognize superior talent when it comes along.”
For his many fans, the Prince of Darkness pledged he wouldn’t disappear entirely.
“You can still catch me on reruns of I Love Lucifer, or live 24/7 on Fox News.”

    Senator Sherrod Brown (OH)
talking to Maddow…said Governor DeWine was anticipating school closures after only 3 people diagnosed as infected, and had been working on it for weeks while Trump was calling COV-19 a ‘hoax’.
But then waited too long. Then when poll workers said they wouldn’t show up…he shut down the polls. Brown hoping this leads to everybody voting by mail. Says DeWine shut the polls down in good faith and has done the right thing. Re: concerns that postponing primary might become permanent and Ohio lose delegates….Dems can file asking governor to set a date, and everybody votes by mail or early vote.

    • March 18, 2020 at 3:19 pm

Agree! Sen. Brown said a good thing would be to assume
      you ALREADY have the infection,
and act so as not to transmit it to others.
      And model that.
Good to self-quarantine following contact with someone who has tested positive. Brown remarked on Trump standing shoulder to shoulder at the podium, while telling Americans to practice social distancing!
