    Beauty Break
If you watched the most This Is Us this week, you saw this beautiful moment between Rebecca (the Mom) and her son Kevin where they went to see Joni Mitchell’s house. Rebecca remembered a story she told her Jack about the house year earlier. It was the origin story for the Crosby, Stills and Nash song Our House. I looked it up. Here’s Graham Nash sharing that story. I love how the music is such an important of all the stories on This Is Us.

    “Coronavirus:
How a ‘drive-through’ testing facility in London works”
“The NHS has launched a new scheme to test people for coronavirus, which can cause the respiratory disease Covid-19.
The BBC’s health editor, Hugh Pym, was shown a demonstration of how a “drive-through” testing facility purpose-built at Central London Community Healthcare NHS Trust will work.
This sort of safe and convenient testing scheme is being rolled out across the country at NHS sites.
More than 7,000 people in the UK have been tested for the virus, with 15 people testing positive so far.” (BBC)
    –Drive-through testing…brilliant!
    –Free of course.

Reminds me of my favorite line from the movie The Martian:
“At some point, everything’s gonna go south on you… everything’s going to go south and you’re going to say, this is it. This is how I end. Now you can either accept that, or you can get to work. That’s all it is. You just begin. You do the math. You solve one problem… and you solve the next one… and then the next. And If you solve enough problems, you get to come home.”

Nature will have her say. Ongoing flooding in Charleston, SC:
“When heavy rains fall over several hours, especially combined with a high tide, the laws of gravity require that water flow to the lowest point. If the water cannot run off fast enough, it soon inundates these depressed areas, often creating very deep pools. Unfortunately some of these places are on major thoroughfares such as Calhoun Street, East Bay Street and the Crosstown. The City of Charleston has made significant improvements to the underground drainage system over the years and has long-term plans for further work, but only so much can be accomplished when facing Mother Nature and the laws of physics.”

“Like 27.5 million other Americans, I don’t have health insurance.
It’s not for a lack of trying – I make too much to qualify for Medicaid, but not enough to buy a private health insurance plan on the Affordable Care Act exchanges. Since I can’t afford to see a doctor, my healthcare strategy as a 32-year-old uninsured American has been simply to sleep eight hours, eat vegetables, and get daily exercise. But now that there are confirmed coronavirus cases in the United States, the deadly virus could spread rapidly, thanks to others like me who have no feasible way to get the care we need if we start exhibiting symptoms.”

“Yes, countries with single-payer systems still have coronavirus cases, Italy and Japan.
But the spread of the virus in those countries would likely pale in comparison to the potential spread of coronavirus in the US, in which a significant portion of the population simply won’t go to the doctor if they’re sick.
Coronavirus is a worldwide public health emergency, and massive profits for health insurers and pharmaceutical manufacturers shouldn’t come before the basic health and safety of human beings.”

It could be. I know in my family, One is a Dem..One sister, Me…’ am Independent who has voted in every election since 2002 for the Dems. My late brother was a GOPer, He voted for GOP until 2008…for Sen Obama…I was surprised when he told us in 2016, he voted for Hillary Clinton.

I was folding laundry on my bed this morning and was listening to Joy Reid at the same time. The Bernie Sanders guy she had on was NUTS. Totally nuts. Tried to say that he thought we should be able to regulate the amount of $$ a person can make! WTF! No, the TAX SYSTEM should be revised to be more fair and those earning shit tons of money need to pay a shit ton of taxes, but NO…we shouldn’t regulate the amount of money a person makes! The conversation was crazy. If someone finds it, bring it over and watch.
    Anyone else see that?

    • 114 No Child Left Behind
      February 29, 2020 at 6:03 pm

This is what Bernie himself insinuated during the last debate when he focused his fingers toward Bloomberg. When one says so and so is too rich, the implication is that there should be an individual wealth ceiling. I don’t get it.

As you said, tax laws should be revised to make people pay their share into the common coffers for the public good. Not Bernie’s ideology. And while I am at it, why doesn’t he move to Denmark???

This video that this tweet replies to is shocking and may be triggering for some, so I won’t post that here. You’re welcome to seek out the original on your own of course. I thought this tweet is really informative and worth sharing. Truck blinds spots are not something I typically think about, but I do instinctively have a lot of fear when driving near big trucks so I appreciated the reply video. The rider in the original tweet survived at least the immediate impact. I hope she suffered no physical or mental injuries from that incident. Be safe out there.
