Good evening, friends. Bringing a long post over I did just before this new thread. Thanks, NW, for keeping our doors open. We love you.

Okay friends, Have to share my experience from an hour ago of calling Lamar Alexander’s office (local). Will try my best to keep it short, but that may be impossible.

I called about the DOJ issue from the past two days. Had to hold for a couple minutes. Keith came on (Yes, we are on first name basis!). I gave him my initial message though do not remember specifically what was said, but ended it with the prediction that as of February 12, 4:35, I predict we will not have an election. (I meant a general election in November.) He smarted off with “Well, we are having elections today……..” It went downhill from there. I cursed and he yelled and cursed back at me. He said he would give the Senator my message. In 5 or 6 minutes, my phone rang and it was Keith calling me back to apologize. I “sort of” apologized too, then we had a fairly long conversation. I had Twitter open in front of me so able to quickly take things from there to make my points. Two different times after I hit him hard with truth and facts and then said, “You know that everything I have said to you is true and you can’t sit in your office in downtown Knoxville and deny ONE thing I have said.” Crickets, Crickets two different times. At one point he said he couldn’t give his personal opinion. I pointed out that everything that happens and the further we headlong into living in a full blown fascist and authoritarian country, it is going to affect you and your loved ones just like it does me and everyone else. You think because you are a Republican and who you work for will make things “okay” for you…….that you won’t be affected?! I am leaving out a lot of things, but this gives you the gist of how the call went.

When Keith first began apologizing, he mentioned how difficult these last two weeks have been and he just finally snapped and it happened to be at me. I affirmed that I was sure it has been a difficult two weeks, but asked what does he expect when he works for and is defending a senator with no backbone, character or integrity and puts party over our country. I didn’t say it, but thought “Gee, let me get out my little violin and have a pity party for you, Keith.”

He did that because he knows you’re right. That is all. Going to get harder and harder to ignore for him. You did good, girl:) keep after them

          February 12, 2020 at 9:24 pm

Yep. One of the times when I let loose a string of facts on him was when I ended it by saying I am betting I am much more informed than you are………that I know a lot more details on what this dictator is doing every day than you do, Keith… …..that was another crickets moment. I almost felt sorry for him. Well, no, maybe not. 😳😩😂

Don’t feel sorry for him. I’d start in on his moral compass and values next though…. but that’s me:)

Didn’t President Obama get sworn in with Lincoln’s bible

      • 20 Obama Grandmama
        February 12, 2020 at 8:53 pm

Yes! And Michelle Obama held it with gloved hands. Doris Kerns Goodman remarked that she needed to wear gloves as a protection for the Bible.
I specifically remember that since when I got home after going to the inauguration someone in a group I meet weekly with started talking about how Obama swore in on the Koran. She had watched Fox News. I had taped C-Span and watched it again on there before going to my meeting and the story about Lincoln’s Bible was told there.

So we have now made it almost 24 hours since the NH election and I have managed to turn off any television punditry. It feels good. I still support the candidate that I feel has earned my vote over a lifetime of public service.

Once again, in this Democratic primary, I wish I had the kind of money that I could donate to a candidate to keep them in the race.

I wish I could write a check for VP Joe Biden. He needs to pay the staff and have an operating campaign structure.

I do not know who are VP’s prominent supporters, (influencers), who can encourage people to donate. I feel that VP needs to make another direct plea for donations which is from his heart (no edited video).

For anyone else who supports Joe Biden, could we at least send out positive messages to encourage him, his staff and supporter to keep focused on the race?

    • 56 tnmtngirl1

One person has also advised that if you are on Facebook, post encouraging and factual information about why you support VP. Apparently, most people get their news from Facebook

      • February 13, 2020 at 11:30 am

Oh yes. I get numerous emails from Biden or his surrogates every day, all day. It is frustrating, try I understand.

    • February 13, 2020 at 1:27 pm

Hi, Linda! I, too, am back to supporting Biden. Have already donated twice this week; however, since I’ve now committed to NO discretionary spending (not going to continue boosting minus 45’s economy), and have a few extra pennies, I’m going to make another donation today in your honor.

Thanks for all you do and for all of your thoughtful contributions in this village.

Oh God! Thank you very much! Anything you can spare helps.

For millions like me, this election is for survival. I have no doubt that in the decisions that matter most, VP will come through for the marginalized or the people who need his help most. He will not need to be reminded or prompted to know the people who need his help.

        • February 13, 2020 at 1:54 pm

Done! I actually made two donations, one in your honor and the other is in memory of my Grandmother who would have been 132 on yesterday. As a kid, I thought it was so neat that she shared the day with Abe Lincoln.

Please. Spare us WaPo describing Trump as “simmering with rage”.
I don’t care what mood he is in, real or pretend.
    He feels small.
So small he has to control others, work himself into a lather, and stamp his little feet. Pls don’t quake in your boots. The tirade will end the millisecond after he has verbally abused someone or something = classic abuser behavior. He feels better afterwards. But the episodes get closer and closer together when they’re reinforced. Trump has lots of daddies and protectors like Barr and Putin to help him feel better because he’s a broken little man. Now he may feel left out of the spotlight by Iowa and NH and the voting process. Eh if he needs a good simmering…let’s show him who is simmering out here!

    • February 13, 2020 at 12:18 pm

      WaPo describes Trump as:
“simmering with rage, fixated on exacting revenge against those he feels betrayed him and insulated by a compliant Republican Party – is increasingly comfortable doing so to the point of feeling untouchable, according to the president’s advisers and allies.”

    • February 13, 2020 at 12:20 pm

      Senator Blumenthal to O’Donnell:
“Lawrence it is almost impossible to exaggerate the crisis that we face here.
“Simmering rage” from a President who is unleashed and untethered to the law. Joe
Scarborough…asked if the president can investigate any journalist, could he arrest us tomorrow? And the truth is every American is potentially in danger of this kind of retribution and revenge if the president uses the justice system as a tool of political or personal vengeance. And that kind of crisis is deeply dangerous. It’s ugly, it violates the ethos of the department of justice for the AG to be the President’s political henchman.”

  38. February 13, 2020 at 12:29 pm

  39. February 13, 2020 at 12:50 pm

    Bloomenthal to O’Donnell:
“Barr should resign because he is acting as Trump’s political operative.”
GOP keeps showing how they’d happily take out American democracy.
Hey maybe they’ll get to be oligarchs like the kool Russian oligarchs in Putin’s Mafia state…visions of sugarplums and oligarchic theocratic U.S. government run by the super rich?
-Btw republicans are complicit, not just “spineless”.

    Imo we are there!
We cannot “wait until the ballot box”. Things are moving much too fast for that!
One of the big reasons given by Dems for embarking on the impeachment process was the looming election. What changed? Um the entire future/death of democracy (globally) is in our hands.
We need Pelosi and Nadler to act asap in response to Barr-Trump-Stone’s blatant evisceration of the rule of law.
Waiting for the election = too much time for Trump/Bannon/Miller/Koch/Putin et al to trash us way beyond fixing.
Imo we cannot wait until March 31 for Barr to piss around,
lie, insult and obfuscate at his hearing in Congress = Time is of the essence like never before.
Trump crossed the line. Barr crossed the line. Imo we must respond right away. We cannot be TIMID any more. Mueller went 2 easy on Trump and now the Putin boys are emboldened. BARR is the DOJ lynchpin, the key between us and Autocracy. Imo Barr would freak out and back down as he did before.
-Barr has already shown he doesn’t want a criminal record on the books.

  48. February 13, 2020 at 1:10 pm

e.g. Why weren’t those who avoided subpoenas arrested?
(Like the Trumputin party) we must go on the offensive, run rings around them, put them back on their heels and on the defensive all the way to the election. This is not the time to be timid or buy reports about his “simmering”. Let us remember what GOP did to Susan McDougall:
In 1996 Ms. McDougal was shackled and taken away for 2 years for lying in the Clinton trial. And she spent some of that time in solitary.
