Congrats, Jacqueline! I knew about Mary Grant Seacole from the Nightingale Museum in London, but learning about Mary Beatrice Davidson Kenner was new. They both immeasurably improved people’s lives!

The GOP always wanted another “Ronald Reagan” type to come along and run the country the way he ran it. They wanted Trump to win even though he was a little “rough” around the edges in their eyes, they thought they’d get him in the oval office and clean him up a bit. But a funny thing happened along the way, they thought they were getting a small time con-man. But in fact they got Heath Ledger’s Joker in full display.

    • 31 marleysperson
      February 9, 2020 at 12:02 pm

They can’t control the monster they unleashed…. and are left trying to feel the country bullshit lies to cover for him, while he trashes everything they used to say they held dear…. except anyone paying the slightest bit of attention can see that they never really cared all THAT much. We have to be the ones to fix this. We have to.

Wonder why candidates keep their VP choices quiet for such a long time? After the primaries. IMO, they should tell us now! Say who you’re running with so we all see the big picture and can make a complete decision. If Biden chose Harris, right now…. IMO…. game. Set. Match.

      Unfortunately yes.
Joe Biden sees the attacks on his family as unsavory. He’s a man of honor, the old fashion way that doesn’t work in this day in age. By his refusal to have his whole family together(IMO) hold a news conference, or go to 60 mins as Bill & Hillary did in 1992, or as Obama did when the Rev Wright issue came up, he’s allowing the right-wing, tRump & others to not only tear him down but to make him & non-response seem weak. Bernie Sanders will make 1972 look good. He might not lose like McGovern, but it will be darn close. Pete Buttigieg is Not ready. Sadly, Americans are NOT ready to elect a Gay man. Elizabeth Warren or Amy Klobuchar has the same issue…Electability. Either Female will do better than Bernie Sanders. This leaves out Mike Bloomberg. I don’t like the man, but he can be as dirty as they come.

Also Joe seems to be the eternal optimist in that he thinks that he can just reach across the aisle and the Republicans will somehow jump at the offer to work with him.

I’m in awe of Mike Bloomberg’s tailor, the skill it takes to fashion a pair of slacks that can hold the sizeable balls that Bloomberg carries around. Bloomberg actually produced a campaign ad starring President Obama and he. This is the same Mayor Bloomberg that said concerning “Stop and Frisk,” “We stop too many white people and not enough minorities.” And whose administration fought against a civil lawsuit filed by the Central Park 5. Bloomberg also recently said that he doesn’t remember what his views were on stop and frisk. I’ll tell you something, these remaining Democratic candidates running for the presidency leave a lot to be desired, Joe Biden not included, when it comes to black and brown communities.

I am tired of the many pundits who are using their platforms to do all they can to demoralize VP Biden’s campaign.

I am not in a position to advise any campaign.

But if I could access VP Biden, I would tell him to keep pushing. I would also ask him to just hold an event and talk right into the camera and remind Democrats that (a) in his years of service and in his personal life, he has been a straight character; (b) basing their vote on propaganda will be rewarding the propagandist (Individual 1 and his gop-enablers)

I hope people know better that allow themselves to be manipulated into a candidate choice that the gop and Individual 1 want.

      Bloomberg’s ad had some responses:
      https://www.politico.com/news/2019/10/08/trump-rallies-unpaid-bills-039631
“In total, at least 10 cities have complained that the campaign has not reimbursed them for services provided by local police and fire departments, totaling more than $840,000, according to a study by the Center for Public Integrity in June….The campaign and the RNC have raised more than $308 million in 2019 alone and have $156 million in the bank….
At least 60 lawsuits and more than 200 liens detailed allegations that Trump and his companies failed to pay various businesses and scores of employees for their work, according to an investigation by USA Today in 2016. Those who claimed they were stiffed by the future president included bartenders, painters, real estate brokers and others.”

and now we have the NYPD Union Head..inciting violence against a sitting elected mayor…

One more enabler…”The Press”.while there are members of the press who have outed the corruption of the president…most of the MSM and cable pundits still cover this President like it is all a game of winners and losers…with them being the referee…only the continue to carry the water of the GOP

  120. February 10, 2020 at 1:13 pm

    Steve Benen:
“Some background is probably in order.
As we recently discussed, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) is responsible for producing an annual report on global security threats, which is soon followed by a congressional hearing in which top security officials brief lawmakers on the report’s findings. In theory, it need not be especially political or partisan.
But in practice, it’s a different story.
A year ago, then-Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats was joined by FBI Director Chris Wray and CIA Director Gina Haspel for a Senate hearing in which they completely contradicted the president’s position on a wide range of key issues, including Iran, North Korea, Russia, border security, and climate change. It quickly became clear that when it came to global threats, Trump and his national security team had very little in common.
As regular readers may recall, that’s when things got a little weird…….”

“The guy who received a draft deferment because of bone spurs has the gall to denigrate the service
of a Purple Heart recipient (Lt. Col. Vindeman).” (Ruper, VOX)
“Ahead of the 2016 election, the then-candidate mocked prisoners of war –
he likes soldiers “who weren’t captured” – lied about his financial support for veterans’ charities, claimed more than once that he understood counter-terrorism better than American generals, and publicly feuded with a Gold Star family.”
“Trump has become even more aggressive on this front, blaming military leaders for failed missions he approved, and deriding the former commander of the U.S. Special Operations Command for the speed with which he oversaw the 2011 raid that killed Osama bin Laden.
Trump has also reportedly lashed out at generals privately as “a bunch of dopes and babies,”
while publicly going on the offensive against his own former Defense secretary, James Mattis – whom he accused of acting like a “Democrat” for questioning the White House’s less-defensible national security moves – including a tweet in which Trump asserted that the retired four-star general didn’t care about foreign allies taking advantage of the United States.
More recently, Trump downplayed the importance of troops with traumatic brain injuries,
which prompted a request for an apology from the Veterans of Foreign Wars – an appeal the president appears to have ignored.” (Benen)
–Fake CIC = danger, danger, danger.
–Along with everything else Trump’s mental capacity is at issue.
