Because she’s running for president of the United States, I think if [Wednesday] was a test for who could be a good commander in chief, she got an F-plus,” said Bakari Sellers, a former South Carolina state legislator who supported California Sen. Kamala Harris’ campaign before she dropped out of the race earlier this month.

Gabbard became a trending topic in the U.S. — first by name, then by the hashtag “#TulsiCoward” — Wednesday night and Thursday morning after becoming the lone member of Congress not to take a side on impeachment.

Gabbard is the only remaining Democratic House member running for president. The rest of the Democratic field voiced their support for the president’s impeachment.

Gabbard’s vote Wednesday was more in line with House Republicans, who voted “no” in a unified bloc. And her “present” vote also revived allegations that she’s a Russian asset who could play spoiler in the general election by running a third-party campaign, echoing criticism Hillary Clinton lobbed at the Hawaii congresswoman in October when she called Gabbard “the favorite of the Russians” in a podcast interview.

Congratulations, No Child! All the GOP except Mitt Romney and Justin Amash showed their true color – toxic orange just like the #FakePresident. We never had to cover our children’s eyes or ears when President Obama was speaking. He always made us proud at home and abroad. He and Michelle are world leaders, mentoring the next generation of change-makers.
Now it’s up to us to fight election fraud and GOTV like OFA taught us.

I had forgotten how obnoxious media people & pundits can be when they are trying to convince everyone that the nomination is as good as clinked once one win Iowa and/or New Hampshire.

One can see them trying to create a narrative to drive some candidates out of the race while promoting others. It is not funny

One must be mentally competent to stand trial:
“A group of psychiatrists urged Congress in a letter Wednesday to invalidate President Donald Trump’s acquittal
in the Senate until his mental competency to stand trial is evaluated.”

    • February 6, 2020 at 5:00 pm

From the letter: “Under well-established principles of justice in the United States, a defendant who is not mentally competent to stand trial cannot be tried. We believe that Donald John Trump should not have been tried for impeachable offenses because of his apparent mental incapacities,” the letter reads. “While the Senate chose not to have witnesses, we believe that a witness who could confirm the president’s mental competence was mandatory, and therefore, in its absence, the Senate must throw out any trial results.”
Some of Trump’s actions “reveal a serious level of dysfunction,”
while others “seem to carry the potential to incite violence.” (Asserts he doesn’t remember Parnas et al.)
“Until there is an evaluation, the determination that he is competent to stand trial cannot be made nor assumed. The Senate should immediately order an involuntary assessment, since a lack of assurance of fitness precludes conviction or acquittal. A defendant — after treatment — may be mentally fit to stand trial.”

    • February 6, 2020 at 5:01 pm

“The letter comes weeks after World Mental Health Coalition President Bandy X. Lee, a forensic psychiatrist at Yale School of Medicine who teaches at Yale Law School, penned a joint op-ed with former White House ethics chief Richard Painter warning Congress that the president was not fit to stand trial.”

    • February 6, 2020 at 5:01 pm

      President Lee:
“…the Senate trial has been very atypical, without documents or witnesses.
Maybe that kind of unprecedented situation is acceptable for other reasons,
but competence to stand trial should be non-negotiable.
In our country, defendants have an unassailable right to understand the charges against them,
to assist in their own defense and to have both a rational and factual understanding of the proceedings.
If they are incapable of understanding or of assisting — for example,
if they believe they are “perfect” against all evidence and do not know what they are being charged with,
or have trouble demonstrating a rational and factual understanding of what is happening —
they are legally incompetent, and the trial cannot proceed.
If there is a mistrial from proceeding despite incompetence, then trial results would have to be thrown out.”

    • February 6, 2020 at 5:02 pm

Lee: “If a defendant is suspected to be incompetent, authorities may arrest and hold the defendant in custody, but the case cannot go forward until the defendant’s competence is “restored.”
It is the law that they investigate questions concerning incompetence when they arise. They should not ignore these questions, or they may be breaking the law. If they complete a trial that is illegal, despite a defendant’s incompetence, then the results need to be nullified. Only an examination will settle a dispute.
In addition, the president’s own legal defense recently argued that impeachable offenses should be treated like statutory crimes. Competence to stand trial is indispensable in all courts — but especially in criminal courts. Proceeding while there are serious doubts about a defendant’s competence could be a crime against the defendant.”

    • February 6, 2020 at 5:02 pm

Q: The letter mentions Trump’s habit of denying knowing people whom he appears to knows quite well, as was the case with Lev Parnas. It says that he is either a “pathological liar or has severe cognitive impairment.” Do you believe Trump’s denials may be unintentional rather than calculated statements?
Lee: “That is what we cannot know without an examination. Either way, they are very concerning. If calculated, we would wish to know that there is not a pathological basis for lying, especially when the lying is excessive in amount.”

    • February 6, 2020 at 5:03 pm

Q: The letter also noted Trump’s threat against Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., who served as the head impeachment manager for House Democrats. Do you think Trump may be unaware that his rhetoric has the potential to incite violence?
Lee: “Dangerousness is not a factor in competence to stand trial, but it begins to imply incapacity to serve in office, and incapacity to serve in office is associated with a greater likelihood of incapacity to stand trial.”

    • February 6, 2020 at 5:04 pm

“If a person is inciting violence, whether aware of it or not, it makes one unfit for office — any office.
If one is clearly unfit for office, then we have to think about unfitness to stand trial.
I believe it is a critical issue on which the Senate trial hangs.
If there is disagreement about it, then we should perform the evaluation; it is a right of the defendant guaranteed by the law. We have set up a non-governmental, independent expert panel established on medical criteria alone and through peer review, to do just such evaluations, if the Senate wishes. But it does not have to be our panel — any nongovernmental, independent panel that meets professional standards would do.”

“Fox News’ Own Research Department Says The Network Is A Propaganda Machine”
“An internal Fox News research briefing book obtained by The Daily Beast openly questions Fox News contributor John Solomon’s credibility, accusing him of playing an “indispensable role” in a Ukrainian “disinformation campaign.” The document also accuses frequent Fox News guest Rudy Giuliani of amplifying disinformation, as part of an effort to oust former U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Marie Yovanovitch, and blasts Fox News guests Victoria Toensing and Joe diGenova—both ardent Trump boosters—for “spreading disinformation.”
The 162-page document, entitled “Ukraine, Disinformation, & the Trump Administration,” was created by Fox News senior political affairs specialist Bryan S. Murphy, who produces research from what is known as the network’s Brain Room—a newsroom division of researchers who provide information, data, and topic guides for the network’s programming.”
“It’s important to remember that Donald Trump’s presidency would likely have been over – and may not have even existed in the first place – if not for the propaganda Fox News pushes on a daily basis.” (Colarossi)

“It will truly be the season of the hope-peddlers, a group I have described in a previous essay:
“These are the people who tell the public that everything will be OK, that the danger of the Trump regime has been somehow exaggerated, that matters are not as dire or extreme as they appear and that a return to “normalcy” is “inevitable” if we somehow muddle through the present moment.”
“Donald Trump’s presidency — and now his virtual coronation by Senate Republicans — is the greatest threat to American democracy since the slave-owning South’s insurrection and the resulting Civil War.”

Impeachment witness Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman removed from his White House job, his lawyer says

Vindman was working as a Defense Department detailee on the White House National Security Council. He testified during the House impeachment inquiry into whether President Trump inappropriately pressured Ukraine’s leader to launch investigations into Trump’s political rivals. Trump has expressed anger at his cooperation with House Democrats.

Vindman’s lawyer said he was escorted out of the White House on Friday afternoon.

“Today, Lieutenant Colonel Alexander Vindman was escorted out of the White House where he has dutifully served his country and his President,” David Pressman said in a statement. “He does so having spoken publicly once, and only pursuant to a subpoena from the United States Congress.”

He is an honest American. May God protect and guide him.

    • February 9, 2020 at 2:43 pm

This is the same tactic used against Hillary Clinton in 2016 and . . . well we’re all living that nightmare right now. Bloomberg also funds my Brother’s Keeper and while STOP and FRISK was implemented, he also funded education and other programs to help African American youth. My first choice is VP Joe Biden. But my backup plan is Bloomberg because I know we’ll get the broadest coalition if he’s the nominee. He’ll make white people feel hopeful instead of angry. And the last time I checked they were still the majority of voters. I miss old timey African Americans. They knew how to do their best work under cover.

I know I’m out of sync here but I just needed to say it.
