    Good Evening TODVille,

I hope everyone is OK and has gotten over the charade going on in the Senate. We have only one choice to right all the wrongs of 2016 and of 2019: the November 2020 elections. I resigned myself to that long ago, knowing that all efforts for a just and fair trial were in vain. The President has something on Republicans in the Senate equal to what Putin has on him.

That said, with a very delicate heart, I cannot follow minute-by-minute the results coming out of Iowa for fear that one Tulsi Gabbard or one Bernie Sanders might top the outcome. My world! So, if a generous soul will put the results here, that would be helpful.

    Thank you.

Well, Iowa isn’t everything. It’s not representative of the country. Sanders is a damn mess and he’s the absolute last thing I want to vote for

Watching Buttegiegs speech, looking at all the blk women behind him
I did not see one blk face at any of the Iowa caucuses all night. I wonder they came from. Were they parachuted in.

I know a lot of TOD peeps don’t care for Buttegieg… I happen to like him. He is not perfect and has made some mis-steps, but I do believe his heart is in the right place. I have been following him since January of last year, read his book “The Shortest Way Home” (great parents, exposed to some amazing minds…and his parents were liberal folks…dad an immigrant). He is smart, articulate, poised and quick on his feet. His take down of Pence was a thing to see (both Indiana men). Richie Love endorsed Mayor Pete…why would he if Mayor Pete was so bad? I went to a meet up/call to action for Mayor Pete here in San Diego. A huge turnout and yes there were BLK people (men and women) there. Some were actual volunteers that were going to Iowa to help in his campaign. It was a diverse group. Not sure who the elk women were standing behind him, but they may be part of his on the ground volunteers from around the country.

This is an interesting discussion between Susan Hennessey (Sen Fellow at the Brookings and Executive Editor of the Lawfare blog) and Brian Beutler of CrookedMedia.com regarding what will happen to the Presidency if the Senate acquits Trump…and whether the genie can be put back into the bottle…if Trump is removed from office in 2020…

And never forget how they voted and make them pay for that.

  31. February 4, 2020 at 9:50 am

This is has not been talked about by the candidates running for President. they isolate Trump as if he is the only one…actually we have to defeat Trump and Trumpism..the GOP is an existential threat to democracy…because democracy no longer serves them…as the acquittal brings it all down front…but actually…democracy has never truly served the powers that be…they used democracy only to gain power..but as far as extending it to “others”…it has been a game of pretense for a long time…using the racism of the white masses as foot soldiers…to keep power for themselves

    • February 4, 2020 at 9:52 am

The money line: That is the challenge we face today. After casting aside policy and ideas in favor of ethnonationalism, the Republican Party is now in the process of rejecting democracy as their only alternative for survival.

    • February 4, 2020 at 11:57 am

Trump (and Putin) want you to blame somebody, anybody = a Democrat. Don’t listen.
People enjoy the traditional Iowa process, but it may be on its last legs.
Just unfortunate that the new app failed. Those involved say there is NO funny business going on.
Just problems with a new approach.

They claim to have paper ballots so I don’t know if it’s just talking long to count those. This is such a mess but I’m going to remain optimistic that we’re going to come through this process and beat Trump.

Just listened to NPR as I always do each morning upon getting ready for the new day. There was an interview of a woman in Iowa that voted for Obama twice then for Trump and planned to vote for Trump again. She was a waitress that served Hillary and was referred to in a major speech that Hillary made. She said there was no tip left after she served the group. The reporter asked Hillary’s campaign about it at the time and they said there was a tip left. The woman had government visitors and death threats after that. I in-fact know that during Hillary’s campaign when running against Obama her campaign did not pay my son’s company that stages and runs events with lights, sound, stages, chairs etc. whereas Obama’s paid their events. It can color someone’s views.
Of course, Trump is the King of stiffing people and has done it all his life.

Today this waitress is living on disability having a bad chemical burn from unloading a truck at work. During the interview even though the reporter mentioned Trump wanting to cut Medicare and other programs that would affect her, she even named the programs, she still chose to vote for Trump. She said she did not trust Biden as he seemed like he was sneaky and called it her women’s intuition. The reporter mentioned Trump’s past with women and she just laughed. She liked his putting America first, the border wall, and not paying other countries our money. Scary and sad!

    • February 4, 2020 at 12:33 pm

This sounds like typical NPR reporting. NPR should get a room with Trump GOP and get it over with. Somehow they consistently find far right and uninformed people (GOP has spent decades dumbing America down for this purpose) and then present them as mainstream.

There are so many of these wacos out there. That woman voted for Obama because during those times, there was no vulgar and narcissist Trump. Has he been there, she would have chosen Trump over Obama again and again. At the core of these Trump voters, there lies a vile, vain, cynical, and often racist human being as bad as Trump is. In my book, nobody decent can go to the polls to cast a vote for that filthy man. Nope.

IOWA: Take a Chill Pill, Everybody
“Everyone calm down! Iowa’s caucus snafu is a minor bump, not a world-ending conspiracy.
    “Iowa’s technical cock-up
    is a good reason
to end the outmoded caucus system,
    but not
    to sow
    conspiracy theories.”

    • February 4, 2020 at 1:05 pm

“A good rule of thumb in life is to assume that whatever Trump says, the opposite is true.
In this case, this is not a disaster,
but rather a weird event that will be forgotten by Super Tuesday,
if not by the New Hampshire primary next week.
Arguably, this minor snafu has a bright silver lining,
as it may increase pressure to replace the outdated Iowa caucuses with a modern and much fairer primary election.”

I don’t know why the DNC is letting a non Democrat make all of the rules to benefit him. He doesn’t respect the Democratic party enough to become a member, but he is dictating how the party should run.

I am not surprised at the turn out in Iowa with this flawed caucus system. This type of system is hard on a lot of the reliable voters who have challenges. I hope they do away with all caucuses. The media can spin this any way they want but they know that this system is partially responsible for the low turn out. I have my doubts about whoever wins it.

There was a time when Russia was seen as a country that could be befriended.
Ambassador McFaul was part of that era where students studied Russian. I also studied the Russian language in high school, and if given the opportunity to visit I might have. Those were different times.
Putin today is successfully using the ‘President’ of the United States to forward his O & G goals (absolutely critical to Russia’s economy) and take down the entire western world.

    Just thinkin’
Years ago when I had a math/graphics inspired boyfriend, he was approached on an election day (not a national election) by a teevee network. They asked him if he could produce a couple of graphics with moving parts.
Being that cool, calm, truthful guy he took a look and said sorry — too late.
Here the Iowa folks produced an untested new tool for analyzing the caucus data. Remember PBO’s rocky ACA website on the first day? I see it like that. May be best at times like these to stay with the tried and true and churn out the usual basic data. All my best to whoever feels terrible right now…intentions were good…stuff happens.
