        🙋‍♀️ hiya Dudette.

Been watching parts of the trial on tv … I hope Rep.Schiff has a future as CIC sometime in the future. He is amazing. They all are.

I believe The Honourable Republican Senators will vote to remove Trump. After all these are GREAT men and women of honour and integrity and presumably will act accordingly with (good) conscience.
Ok ok … I am asking for the impossible but if we repeat it enough, maybe it will happen.

Congressman Schiff is amazing. I hope your dream about honorable Republicans stepping up to save democracy comes true for the sake of the country and, frankly, the world. Alas. I haven’t able to bring myself to watch much of the “trial” because of the knots in my stomach that say we’re stuck with the Mob Boss. [sigh!] 😞

I am one of the people who have not been able to stomach these hearings non-stop. I peak at tweets on (what I consider to be ) safe Twitter accounts. I peak in on some of the commentary. I get tired of the yo-yo feeling when something comes out where I feel that SURELY this will be the turning point, only to get jerked back by the unreasonable responses of the GOP congress people.

I despair that we this country has moved into the twilight zone of 45’s alternate universe. Normal is no longer normal. Breaking the law (for some) is now acceptable. Openly discriminating and expressing bigotry and racism is okay. LYING is tolerated. Elementary school antics (bullying, name-calling, whining, retaliation) is permitted in an office that was once respectable and the occupant could be seen as a role model. The bar has been lowered regarding who is allowed to occupy the WH and represent this country. Elected officials are showing us that they don’t represent the people who voted them into office. Instead they represent their own self-interests (even above party) to the detriment of our democracy. “Country First” does not necessarily refer to the United States.

My only hope is that this country can recover. Those “legislators” who have turned their backs on this country, who have sworn allegiance to an individual (and perhaps another country), and who have forsaken their oath to protect this country and uphold the Constitution will be ousted in the next election(s). With all that we have had to endure since January 2017, I can’t imagine that we will have short memories and that we *will* unite behind the Democratic nominee, and that we *will* be motivated to get out and vote IN LARGE NUMBERS, making the extra effort to overcome the voter suppression tactics, and overcome foreign interference.

Morning everyone. Unlike some here, I do not hold any hope that these Republicans will do the right thing. Faced with the biggest decision of their senate lives and they will fail. Fail themselves and fail the country. I have no doubt and no illusions. They are all cowards. More fearful of the wrath of the idiot and big money donors. They will never put the will of the people or what’s best for the country over themselves. Never. Which is why they must ALL be voted out. Every last one. In every damn elected position in the country. If not, this place will be unrecognizable. Our world a toxic mess. Not hyperbole. Cowards, all. Soon they will be gloating cowards. I hope I’m wrong.

    • January 31, 2020 at 12:52 pm

      Senator Schumer:
“…The importance of this vote is self-evident. Trials have witnesses, trials have documents.
The vote today is about whether the Senate will have a fair trial of the President of the United States.
So it is deeply disturbing that something so important to the future of our democracy—a few of my Republican colleagues announced last night they’d vote against hearing additional evidence.
It’s clear where the American people stand on the issue.
Republican senators who decide to go against the will of the people will have to reckon with it.
The result of today’s vote is still an open question, but I would note that even in Senator Alexander’s statement announcing his opposition to new evidence, he said that it was “proven” that the President did what he was accused of. He came to the wrong conclusion about hearing evidence in this trial, that’s clear.
But Senator Alexander, a senior Senate Republican, a retiring member, said out loud that ‘I think most Republican senators believe in private…that Yes the president did withhold military assistance to try to get Ukraine to help him with his elections. And Yes the president did interfere with congressional investigations about misconduct.’ He said ‘Yes the President conditioned foreign aid in a White House meeting – with an ally at war – on the performance of bogus investigations that would help his re-election’.
Alexander rejected 90% of the argument from the President’s counsel (that the President did nothing wrong). He acknowledged that the President did something that the Founder’s feared most: The potential corruption of our national elections by a foreign power, solicited by none other than our own President.
And to hide that gross misconduct, the White House exhausted every legal trick in the book to prevent Congress from investigating it. If my Republican colleagues refuse to even consider witnesses and documents in this trial, this country is headed for its greatest coverup since Watergate.
If my Republican colleagues refuse to even consider witnesses and documents in the trial,
what will the President conclude? We all know he will conclude he can do it again! And Congress can do nothing about it. He can try to cheat in his election again, something that eats at the roots of our democracy.”

      • January 31, 2020 at 12:53 pm

        Senator Schumer:
“And one more point, a point I’ve been making for weeks, most relevant for today:
If my Republican colleagues refuse to consider witnesses and documents in this trial, the President’s acquittal will be meaningless. Because it will be the result of a sham trial.
If there are no witnesses, no documents in this trial, there will be a permanent asterisk next to the acquittal of President Trump written in permanent ink.
So – Senate Republicans face a choice today between seeking the truth and covering it up. Between a fair trial and a farce. Between county and party. No matter what the results of today’s vote, I believe the truth with eventually come out. My Republican colleagues should think about that before they vote today.
The truth, the truth will eventually come out. We could vote to see the truth in this trial, or it could out in a few weeks or a few months, and on that day, every Republican who voted to hide the truth in an Impeachment Trial of the President will have to answer for it.”

      • January 31, 2020 at 1:30 pm

        Senator Schumer:
“I believe the vast majority of my Republican colleagues even though they are fearful of President Trump, believe he did just what the House managers suggest.”
“The bottom line is when the President does something so aggriegous you don’t look the other way. ”
“If the President is interfering in the election, the election may not have a fair result.”
“Very few people doubt that he would do it again. And again. He’s already tried several times.”
“When we look back, I think the thing that we are most gratified about is that we knew this was an uphill fight, we knew two-thirds to convict, we know the President is a vindictive, nasty president
who goes after anyone who opposes him. And we know that Republicans, even those that may oppose him, want to go in line with him. The fact that 4 weeks after Mitch McConnell said on Sean Hannity he’s doing just what the President wants, no chance for any negotiation—
I sent a letter to all my colleagues saying we want these 4 witnesses and these 4 documents…that is, let fairness ring from one coast to the other.”
“Americans know that Democrats are for a fair trial and witnesses and documents, and they know that Republicans are opposing even that.”
“I believe every American should hear what every Senator is voting and why they are voting.”
“If it’s a tie, it’ll be up to the Chief Justice.”
“The Chief Justice knows that every trial has witnesses and documents.”
“The bottom line is very simple.
As we’ve said, because of the great unity of our caucus from one end to the other,
        any acquittal of the President
        has no value”.

Exactly. IF there were some, I have never believed it was close to a sizable number. I would love to know who started this farce of a story and why keep it going?!?!?! Jon Favreau is certainly playing a part in keeping it going. Can anyone explain it?

Don….they did! Lots of accounts, for example, of folks who voted for “change” in one election. And then voted for change again in the next election.

              January 31, 2020 at 1:40 pm

I watched it knowing all that voted for Obama were not true fans. Some were not deep thinkers but only jump on the bandwagon or those wanting change only. They did not even fully know what the change represented or whether it would be beneficial to them or not. Then if they are not happy they repeat their strategy of voting for change. They used to refer to them as low information voters. After reading the book and going to the musical “Hamilton” I bought a shirt that says “Those who stand for nothing, fall for anything.” These change voters for change only fit the Hamilton saying.

(as screamingly, insanely hilarious Colbert (not to mention the do-not-miss comic genius who played Bolton) called Trump’s mob lawyer last night):
So Dershbag told this utterly ridiculous lie that is somehow getting air-time:
‘If a president does something which he believes will help him get elected in the public interest’, it can’t result in impeachment.”

    • January 31, 2020 at 11:05 am

Who believes Dershbag thinks it’s OK for Donald to get foreign governments to rig an election for him?
Didn’t he once say “”the Jew’s job to defend the underdog”. Trump is no underdog here and the pair of them are playing God. Americans decide who is President! Not Putin, Xi, bin Salman, or Trumpsky.
Does MoscowMitch know right from wrong? Does Dershbag know right from wrong?
FFS these a-holes will do anything to shut down the majority….NO, NO, NO.

    Excerpt from “Solar Storms”:
“The shadows of fish floated in the sink. Bush did her own hunting then, and she had a bag of poor, thin winter rabbits. She removed their fur the way you’d take off a stocking. She dredged them in flour. In the kitchen, their lives rose up in steam. Day and night she worked. In her nightclothes, she boiled roots that still held the taste of mud. She stirred a black kettle and two pots. In her dark skirt, she cut onions. I didn’t under- stand, until it was over, what it was she had to do. I didn’t know what had taken hold of her and to what lengths she must go in order to escape its grip. She folded blankets and clothing and placed them on the floor in the center of that one dark room. She took down the curtains, shook out the dust, washed them in the sink, and hung them on lines from wall to wall. All the while, bones floated up in broth the way a dream rises to the top of sleep.
Your mother entered my dreaming once, not floating upward that way, but crashing through, the way deer break through ice, or a stone falls into water, tumbling down to the bottom. In the dream, I was fishing in Lake Grand when the water froze suddenly like when the two winds meet and stop everything in their paths, the way they do in waking life, the way they left a man frozen that time, standing in place at the bank of Spirit River. In the dream I saw your mother beneath ice in the center of the lake. I was afraid of her. We all were. What was wrong with her we couldn’t name and we distrusted such things as had no name. She was like the iron underground that pulls the needle of a compass to false north.”
    (Linda Hogan, Chickasaw, 1947–)

GOP has been iced for the duratio and Trump wants a global state media dedicated to him – he already has Sinclair and god knows what social media foreign and domestic, Koch.
