I remember prior to PBO’s last term in office he was interviewed by someone asking if he would like to be on the Supreme Court. He replied that he would not like that position. I do not remember why not though.

In my opinion money in politics is a bit of a misnomer, money has never been the strongest entity in politics. That distinction belongs to voting. The power of a single vote is unmatched, if voting wasn’t important or powerful. There wouldn’t be a concerted effort to stop large segments of society from voting.

Less expensive labor is what most multinational corporations seek. And if that corporation is a big time donor to this president, sadly the worker will always be seeking employment.

Quick update: Our daugher and grands got here late Monday night. We had a good Christmas; just thankful to be together and all healthy. Then, speaking of healthy, grandson got sick w/stomach bug, high fever, awful headache Friday afternoon. They had planned to leave yesterday morning, which did not happen. They got on the road shortly after 10:00 today. He is not 100% but much improved. Hope he is able to give Mom a few breaks from driving the entire 9+ hours.

It’s been crazy and we are leaving a mess we don’t like to leave, but……….We are going to Key West for the coming week. Joining friends who have a house they were blessed to be offered (free!). We are taking 2+ days to do the drive. Will leave KW Saturday morning, stop in Orlando to visit husband’s niece and family. Sunday evening visit friends from our norther VA days, then home Monday, January 6th! Prayers for safety for all of us much appreciated!!!

Good morning, TOD! I 💜 PBO’s reading list; always refreshing to see which titles we have in common, and receive recommendations for additions to me ever growing to read stack!

Was honored to host Sheila and Terri for lunch on Friday. Will post pics later today.

Nerdy, as always, you have my undying gratitude! Happy New Year!

Trump is a lifelong mob-entangled criminal continuing on the world of his father.
e.g. It is normal for the mob to have their fingers in hotels and casinos. Putting up buildings means loans, permits, greasing the palms of local politicians. Racketeering means the Trump family can be blackmailed and extorted by other mobs and nations states, which in turn affects his decisions about this country. While running his business as usual, he’s increasingly protected by judges and bureaucrats who do his business directly, with the DOJ and GOP Congress corrupted from the inside by Russian and American mafia.
What a dream come true for the mafia world ….underworld nazis to mobsters…to get their guy in as President.

    • December 29, 2019 at 12:50 pm

Mob bosses are bigger than the president of a company or the president of the U.S.
Media pls remember the guys over Trump that you don’t see…then Trump’s rogue actions make more sense. This time all of our Media must urgently call a spade a spade. No more time left for denial.

The first Watch Night was Dec. 31, 1862, as abolitionists and others waited for word — via telegraph, newspaper or word of mouth — that the Emancipation Proclamation had been issued.

“A lot of it, at least the initial Watch Night, was really many of the free black community,” says Lonnie Bunch, director of the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture. Yet for a people largely held in bondage, freedom is a powerful idea — and that’s what the Watch Night tradition embodies.

the word came on Jan 1, 1863

    ****************

I did not know about this till a few years ago…

i plan to attend a Watch Ceremony this year…This article is from 2012

    _________

However what must be said…Lincoln made a deal with the Confederates to remove the Federal Troops from the South….Troops that were there to protect the newly freed enslaved people….How different things might have been if that had not happened…would that reign of terror that happened to blk people been reduced or not happened at all….

    • December 29, 2019 at 5:58 pm

I grew up with this tradition; was told that it was to thank Jesus for another year. Wasn’t until I was stationed in NC in the 70’s that I learned it was tied to the Emancipation Proclamation… Family cut southern ties/traditions when they moved north… 😕

      • December 29, 2019 at 7:32 pm

Same here. During Friday’s lunch, I mentioned that I was going to try to gain an appointment with him when congress is back in session. I just wanted to thank him for the profound impact he’s had on my life and hopefully, get autographs in my books. Each time there was a planned opportunity, something has come up: 2001, he was a no-show to receive the National Constitution Medal due to House votes on either the CRA or actual budget (I can’t remember which); 2015, intimate conversation on civil rights, with him and Sen Coons, was cancelled due to Beau Biden’s wake; when it was rescheduled in 2016, I was out of the country. Didn’t have them with me when I chaperoned the 2001 and 2002 Freedom Rides; nor at the 2008 and 2016 Democratic Conventions… I’ve admired him sice I was a little girl.

Well, he is the perfect role model for anyone that cares about human rights and
decency. I wish him strength and healing… we need him in our lives…. and you need another shot at a meeting with him. I wish that for you.
