this opinion by Dionne is on point…

Turn out will be key for us…to gather those folks who did not vote in the last election …should our candidates speak on these topis…Castro..Harris..speak on this…Biden at time does as well..but when Biden speaks about Republicans i think that he does not see the rot that is the GOP…maybe he is speaking to independent voters of whom the majority are disenchanted GOPers

Greenhouse gases reach highest recorded levels in over 3 million years.
“According to the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), Earth has reached a new high in the concentration of carbon dioxide in our atmosphere; CO2 in the atmosphere reached 407.8 parts per millions this past year, up from 405.5 parts per million in 2017. ”

Navy quietly ended Climate Change Task Force last March:
“When he took office as secretary of defense, retired Marine Gen. Jim Mattis urged the armed forces to battle the effects of global climate change. The order by Mattis was backed by a slew of scientific studies — including those commissioned by the Pentagon — and concerns expressed by a growing number of past and present military leaders. “Climate change is impacting stability in areas of the world where our troops are operating today,” Mattis indicated in written testimony to the Senate Armed Services Committee in 2017.”

The U.S. Navy Task Force Climate Change under President Obama was:
“designed to prepare naval leadership for global shifts in sea levels, melting ice sheets and ocean temperatures. Navy officials told E&E News, which initially reported the termination of the program, that the task force’s mission was one that was “no longer needed.””

2012: Pentagon and military on climate change:
“This video highlights the Pentagon’s focus on climate change as the military examines potential risks, strategic responses, and impacts of climate change on future military and humanitarian missions. In 2010, for the first time, the Pentagon focused on climate change as a significant factor in its Quadrennial Defense Review of potential risks and strategic responses. Rear Admiral David Titley, Oceanographer of the Navy, explains why the US military sees clear evidence of climate change and how those changes will affect future military and humanitarian missions.”

      Thank you, D-ette!

AND if you haven’t yet read the follow-up to this article, you really should.

      Here’s a quoted section.

      // …
I conceded that the problems with institutional racism are so complex and go back so far that I’m not sure that anyone—a mayor, a governor or even a president—could fix them. Buttigieg, however, insisted that there are some things that people in power could do to make things more equal, a point I actually agreed with.

“I do think there are some ways to attack these issues with policies that might solve these issues, but would certainly help.” he said.

“But do you disagree with the point I was making?” Mayor Buttigieg asked, listing a few programs designed to alleviate this specific problem. “Sometimes children don’t get to see the possibilities. Do you think the lack of positive examples of educational success can lead to mistrust and a lack of confidence in the system?”

“No…well, yes,” I answered. “But the lack of confidence doesn’t have anything to do with role models or support from parents, it’s because the shit is true!”

I loved this – all the fun and connection they have. And the cooking and sharing of heritage.

I was reading some of the comments on Kamala’s thread and one in particular notes that in India, you call everyone of your parents’ generation “Auntie” or “Uncle.” So that’s why she greets Mindy’s father that way and probably why she implores Mindy in the beginning not to call her Auntie.

That’s true Meta. Even in other parts of Asia like Malaysia and Singapore, it is not customary to address anyone older than you by their first name.
One would address strangers ‘auntie’ and ‘uncle’ or ‘older brother / sister.
Eg: someone named John who is older … you would call him ‘uncle John’s… even if he is not related.

It is supposed to show respect for older folks.

Whenever the topic of the Steele Dossier came up, it was always linked solely to the HRC Campaign and the DNC. I had always heard that Fusion GPS was originally hired by a conservative group during the primaries to do research on Trump (and perhaps other Republicans).

Rachel Maddow had the co-founders of Fusion GPS on her show last evening and at some point that bit of information came out. I heard it again this morning on Morning Joe.

Another Republican conspiracy full of holes.

And before they knew it….they had replaced them all…
When top military officials resign it totally works for Trump and Putin – they replace that person with a dumb lackey. Does the con media think Republicans have any interest whatsoever in U.S. national security?
Trump thinks 1) he owns Senate GOP and that 2) Putin will help him get re-elected. 3) Putin will go on undermining the West and doing whatever he can to benefit Russia – which is weak – until Trump 4) lifts sanctions.
So without a desperately urgent national protest and nationwide media reckoning:
–We’ll have an Authoritarian State by….oh…3 weeks on Sunday.
