The result is an intimate look at President Obama’s two terms, what it felt like to be a black man photographing the first black president of the United States and the ways, Jackson says, that the former president and first lady maintained their authenticity both on and off camera. “Lawrence has a talent for capturing the big scene, the iconic images that will help explain our times for future generations,” the president writes. “But he also has a unique gift for capturing those quieter moments—the margins of a big event, the pauses in a busy day, some stolen times with Michelle and our girls.”
Good morning Marleysperson, good morning Nerdy. Congrats on first marley. I hope you all have a wonderful day. I’m so glad for tomorrow being a day to celebrate veterans and selfishly glad to have a day off. I’m teaching the Constitution now, and all my students want to talk about is impeachment. I’ve put them off saying that we have to get through some basic concepts first, like Federalism and the Separation of Powers, but they’re not interested, naturally. Sigh. It should be a fun week as we start the Legislative Branch first where impeachment is first mentioned. Pray for me. Have lots of Trump supporting boys who don’t have a clue. They see him as tough and strong and support his racism, I’m afraid, although they don’t talk about that openly, I’ve heard them mutter things. Trump has hurt so many young teens for a generation.
Feel that! I have often thought about young boys ideas of what a strong, confident man looks like. Mostly, they are nothing like what I see as a strong, confident man. You have the ability to make them think harder, and use the facts set forth in the Constitution as your guide, as you navigate this impeachment inquiry with them in real time. I would embrace this challenge and know that if they are listening and understanding our democracy in real time, then notions that they have thought to be true may fall away. They may be angry and confused, but hopefully, in time, they will understand that this inquiry is happening because this behavior is precisely what the Founders had in mind.
Please let us know how this goes.
We live in interesting times. Keep them focused on facts, not opinion.💕
According to the UN: Alabama has the worst poverty in the developed world. 15% of residents are illiterate. 6th worst state in healthcare. That’s @realDonaldTrump’s “real America” https://t.co/HpFIfPBlsX
What they continue to vote FOR is….. White Suprmacy…white privilege…racism…these are their belief systems…this is why they vote to destroy their own health care…school systems…etc…
“el derecho de vivir en paz” was written by Víctor Jara who was a teacher, poet, songwriter, political activist tortured & killed during the dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet.
This is also why the neighbors cheered so loud. They understand WHY she was singing THAT song. ✊

This made me cry. I immediately went back to my high school days when my family took in an exchanges student from Chile. It was during the rule of Allende. Her family was very vocal in the country’s politics and they had to be very careful about speaking out against the government… I lost track of her, but this immediately brought her back into my thoughts…. and prayers
And this is precisely why all those with a microphone needs to call it what it REALLY IS! Bribery and extortion!! No one fucking knows about a Latin phase that doesn’t capture the entirety of his many crimes! Even morons know what bribery and extortion mean! Use the words’
GOP Rep. Mac Thornberry using the line used by many Rs on Trump and Ukraine: “I believe that it is inappropriate for a president to ask a foreign leader to investigate a political rival … I believe it it was inappropriate. I don’t believe it was impeachable,” he says on ABC
Nope. Thornberry thinks he’s fooling someone?
1) Cannot run an extortion racket from the WH.
2) Asking a foreign country to interfere in U.S. elections is impeachable all by itself.
3) U.S. National Security: Trump illicitly withheld military aid intended for occupied Ukraine to defend against Russian aggression and expansion. Which is in the interests of U.S. National Security.
Trump supports Putin, not us, not NATO.
Republicans have been dashing over to Russia making deals for the last several years. e.g. Senator Daines and posse. So if Trump goes to Russia for May Day event…can it get any worse? What private business deals will they make? How far back does their relationship go? (Answer: the 1980’s.)
I want to encourage you to read this important and devastatingly powerful piece by @HenryLouisGates. If you are in the fight against white supremacy, you must understand the lengths to which those who embrace it will go in order to maintain power. https://t.co/UZmq36JVRz
My candidate is actively working to thwart Trump at every turn. He is the ogre on the bridge to the progressive paradise. Nothing happens—not #M4A, not Green New Deal, not a repeal of the Trump/Ryan tax cut, not a damned thing—until he is removed. Kamala understands this. https://t.co/sMW9NI6vQw
– Still hasn’t tweeted anything – Maybe he fell down a well – Trump goon arrested for stabbing #BabyTrumpBalloon – Triggered snowflake couldn’t deal with a balloon – 48 hours to TV impeachment hearings – Trump is going to prison – It’s still only 10am
Donald Trump is now demanding that Nancy Pelosi be called as a witness during his impeachment hearings. No really, he said this. I don’t think he understands how any of this works.
He’s in it for himself, against our best interests & national security. And what does he get by staying in office (b/c between golf, hate rallies & tv watching, the guy clearly doesn’t work)? Millions upon millions of our tax dollars in his pocket & a free “get out of jail” card. https://t.co/Ja9ZNFfArT

I understand why Democratic politicians don't tell voters this–they need for people to be idealistic and inspired–but the reality is that it will take at least 4 years just to fix all the messes that Trump has created, and much, much longer for some of them.
Never happen. Democrats don't have the fortitude. The mainstream media will insist that everyone move on, no recriminations, let's all work together. All total BS but Democrats will buy it because they always do. Meanwhile, Republicans will plot to undermine everything they do.
With Watergate, the question was whether Democrats could find "smoking gun" evidence that would prove President Nixon was guilty. With Ukraine-gate, the question is whether smoking gun evidence can have any political impact among congressional Republicans anymore.
Good afternoon, TOD! Yes We Did is a MUST add for your library. Received my copy on Friday, and after flipping through just a few pages, ordered five more as Christmas gifts. More wonderful than the pictures is the magnificent writing. The backstories accompanying the pictures bring you into the room; make you feel as if you were there…
Trump’s impeachment defense: “I was caught redhanded and stopped abusing power after my months of illegally freezing $391 million in defense funds had killed just a few hundred innocent Ukrainians & before my shakedown of Zelensky had forced him to smear Biden, so get over it!”

BART is our Bay Area subway system. There’s a rule that you can’t eat on BART trains, although I’ve never seen it enforced. HOWEVER, this guy was eating on the platform area, which is not really part of the stated rule, especially since it’s an outdoor station. I’ve seen guys eat entire chicken dinners on a BART train with ZERO consequences so this is so entirely infuriating and complete BS.
#AtatianaJefferson’s father, Marquis… My heart goes out to the Jefferson family. What a tragedy and example of how the indescribable pain of sudden death, particularly due to injustice, devastates a family. Police brutality devastates. https://t.co/ufdErx4tof
Our hearts are with the family of Atatiana Jefferson as they suffer another loss. Atatiana’s father, Marquis Jefferson, passed away from a heart attack.
His death is a reminder that the victims of police violence also include the families of those killed.https://t.co/ETIWcYxEzV
I hear Dems arguing that people don’t want revolution, they want calm. But 140 million poor & low wealth people want living wages, health care, & fully funded public education. They don’t want a calm government; they want a caring government.
They want an active government which enacts laws and policies to help the working and middle class. Not just laws to help the wealthy like Trump’s tax cuts.
This is the work that goes into feeding America. These are the people who make our meals possible.

The corruption in @TomSteyer’s campaign merits more attention. One staffer was caught with stolen data from @KamalaHarris—and another aide was trying to buy endorsements. I’ve seen more pressure on better candidates to leave the race for less than this. https://t.co/fTDmNjoS4t

He should sue the officer and the law should be changed to allow passengers to eat food they buy from the kiosk in the station. Ridiculous!
Heartbreaking news. How horrible for this family to lose two members in such a short period of time. That murderous cop needs to rot in jail.
