“It includes more than 150 inspiring questions and quotes that resonate with key themes in Mrs. Obama’s memoir and that are designed to help readers reflect on their personal and family history, their goals, challenges, and dreams, what moves them and brings them hope, and what future they imagine for themselves and their community,” according to publisher Penguin Random House.” (People)

The appeal that Mrs. Obama has comes from the fact that she shows the world that Black Woman are more than two dimensional. For a lot of people this will probably be their first time reading about the hopes and fears and dreams of a Black Woman. I am not at all surprised by the enormous appeal of Michelle’s book.

Meghan Markle’s journey has obviously not been pleasant …

    • October 18, 2019 at 1:10 pm

Duchess Meghan is authentic, caring, and imo an important asset to her new country. I think the far right wing message has migrated to the U.K. and not by mistake. Britain has welcomed and merged colors happily for a very long time now. A lot of beautiful people and Archie will be one of them.

Yes I read some of the things said, like how they think Kate is so great, but it’s another story with Megan. Racism is every where.

      • October 18, 2019 at 1:34 pm

hi HD it is about the “they”. British people in general are not racist and have long enjoyed diversity (as in Canada). The question is is who is pushing this divisive agenda for political reasons.

    Rachel Maddow’s telling tweet yesterday:
    (1) turkey wants to push the kurds out of that part of syria.
    (2) trump gives ‘em the OK to invade.
    (3) pence brokers a “deal” in which the kurds… must get out of that part of syria.
    (4) the US agrees to un-sanction turkey.
that’s a “deal” like being mugged is a deal.

    • October 18, 2019 at 1:46 pm

Brett McGurk on O’Donnell responds: “I think she has it about right.
In a chain reaction crisis, a Cascading crisis like we’ve been able to try to buy time, but in exchange for buying time to completely capitulate in a 13-point statement which was basically written by the Turks: What is shows to me is the extreme duress under which the America side is negotiating, we’re evacuating our facilties, we’re bombing them as we leave, and president Trump gave away all of our leverage. He did that last December when he anounced he wanted to leave Syriaand that we were leaving Syria, so Putin knows we’re leaving, Erdogan knows we’re leaving, Assad knows we’re leaving, the Iranians know we’re leaving. And he compounded that by what he did on the night of October 6th after the call with Erdogan and now we are evacuating our positions. So we’ve no leverage, we have very little influence, we’re bystanders, and the final deal will be cut in five days when Erdogan visits Putin in Moscow untortunately.”
(Breet McGurk: Special Presidential Envoy for the Global Coalition to Counter the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, under PBO and Trump.)

Trump at his rally last night:
“Sometimes you have to let them fight like two kids in a lot. You have to let them fight, and then you pull them apart.”
    Brett McGurk responds:
You know Lawrence this is difficult for me, because this is just obscene,
and I served for 2 years in the trump administration. I know the diplomats are trying to work through this crisis that was precipitated by an impulsive decision by president trump. That is a totally obscene thing to say.
Over the last 10 days after the president’s phone call with Erdogan, we’ve had about 200,000 civilians displaced from their homes, we’ve had hundreds of people killed, we’ve had innocent women pulled out of their car and murdered in cold blood by Turkish backed opposition forces. So for the president of the United States to say that – you know everybody’s listening…I’ve been to Syria so many times and particularly in these war zone environments, everybody listens to the words of the president of the United States and for him to say that is truly obscene. And we’re not just letting them fight. We are evacuating Syria and blowing up our bases as we leave and handing over facilities to the Russians. So for the president to suggest that this is kind of no big deal, and this is all going according to plan is a joke, and I think Senator Romney has it right and I fear that this is going to get worse. I think it’s good that we bought some time, but Erdogan is on his way to Moscow, and we are now bystanders as we work to get out of Syria. So I think it’s a pretty serious situation and it’s not likely to get better.”

Angel on my other shoulder: Well, at least through his vested self-interest, he is getting the word out to others to show a little damn courage, so I guess that’ something.

Joint Statement: “We, the Chairs of the Foreign Affairs Committees
    of Germany,
    the United Kingdom,
    the European Parliament,
    and the
House of Representatives of the United States of America,
jointly condemn in strongest terms the Turkish military offensive in north eastern Syria. …
We consider the abandonment of Syrian Kurds to be wrong. The Syrian Democratic Forces, our partner in the Global Coalition, contributed to the successful yet unfinished fight against Da’esh in Syria and incurred heavy losses by doing so. We deeply regret the decision of the President of the United States to withdraw American troops from north eastern Syria, which marks another landmark in the change of American foreign policy in the Near and Middle East.”
“The statement also suggests that, far from fighting terrorism, the joint action by Trump and Erdoğan is likely to increase it.

  16. October 18, 2019 at 5:52 pm

    promised by Erdogan,
in return for lifting sanctions on Turkey,
in order to facilitate the “cleaning out” (to quote Trump) of our allies the Kurdish people,
and giving Erdogan everything he wants:
(= a 5-day ceasefire which is reportedly being ignored)
and Pence immediately lied to the media by saying it was “permanent”:
—Trump said “This will save millions of lives!!”—
These were flesh and blood lives that had put their faith in the U.S. and our troops, that he himself uniltaterally, personally put in jeopardy by his ignorant, despotic, depraved, deluded, corrupt actions.
—Did you see the devastating photo of a Kurdish fighter crying on the shoulder of his friend?

Today British Parliament will assemble for the 1st time on a Saturday since the war-by-sea Falklands war was manufactured by Thatcher. Trump #2 No Nothing tool of the far right is in there still trying to pull the wool. Outside on the street crowds are demanding a 2nd Referendum. imo any kind of Brexit deal to separate the U.K. from the E.U. spells dooom and a giant strategic win for Putin.

While Mafia Don is thinking of endless ways to line his pockets, because of him and his cohorts,
Kurdish fighters and their allies in the U.S. military have been stabbed in the heart. Brett McGurk reported hundreds of thousands of families dislocated and now homeless, women dragged out their cars and shot.
And after 5 years of bloody combat and a winning strategy by US-Kurdish forces, ISIS is back.
Jailing little babies and children = abducting them illegally from their loved ones is his other claim to fame.
Why would we give a fake C.I.C. another chance to do something like this?

“On Thursday Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan threatened in a speech to “open the gates and send 3.6 million refugees” to Europe if the continent’s leaders interfered…Kurdish leaders travelled to Brussels on Thursday to appeal for help from the European Union against Turkey’s military offensive into northern Syria….
Kurdish-led forces from the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) were instrumental allies in the fighting against Isis, with the US supplying them with arms and weapons. The SDF lost some 11,000 fighters in the years-long battle against the militants.”

Exit from the E.U. of any kind: Scotland will ask for independence, North Ireland will remain w/ E.U.
Who doesn’t want United Kingdom UNITY?
And (the majority imo) want UNITY with the Euriopean Union.
Community not isolation. This is about Democracy. The same thing is going on there as here – the right wing in Parliament goes on ignoring the will of the people. Besides fulfilling his plan to weaken the European Union…Putin would also revel in the U.K. splitting up.

Still digesting our lovely trip for my Brother’s memorial. (Still can’t figure out how to post photos @ TOD, tried 😔) We had an amazing time, the most beautiful sunsets, warmth of Fam, & laughter, yet poingnant. It was the most stunningly gorgeous place to celebrate his life. Every morning I rolled over, opened my eyes & the view simply made me hop out of bed, grab a cuppa coffee, sit on terrace, & cheer “good morning”, then hit the gorgeous pool. One of our fun excursions was a 3-hr catamaran whale watch ride, on our return the fun crew played Bob (Everything’s Gonna be Alright), & we sang right along w/ Bob, crew & rest of guests on Catamaran! On last day we dragged ourselves out out of the villa, while plotting ways to just stay … forever! 😂😇💞

DF, his presence was felt by all of us! Pretty sure he photo bombed some photos! Like, nah, am here to make sure you’re all cheering! 😂 My son, who lives in CA, met me in Madrid airport & we then flew together to Canaries, where all Fam converged from all points of diaspora. Most amazing thing was that none of our connecting flights were delayed, no lost luggage! On return, my son & I had a long layover in Madrid, stayed at a funky delightful movie themed hotel overnight. We cracked up laughing at our room — Incredible Hulk! Wot?! 😂 Got a chance to wander around Madrid that night. We were not going to have dinner @ any MickeyD-like establishment, no Ma’am! We finally fell upon a fab cute restaurant & were treated to the best dinner & service ever! We have never experienced duck made that way nor anything else! Travel tip: because of our limited layover (18 hrs), I booked a car service to take us from the airport & back the next morning. Done thru booking.com. That service was superb & surprisingly cheaper than taxi. Yup, Jill Scott’s song “Golden” just kept weaving thru my mind the entire trip.💃😂
