Please do not (anybody, anywhere) cover for Trump! GOP is now responsible for Trump’s genocide.
If you are a Kurd in Syria, this is your wife, husband and children who is being eviscerated to pay off the debts of a fake president beholden to foreign nations. GOP is responsible for genocide if they don’t remove him.
Are we OK with sacrificing others/our lives to pay off Trump’s foreign debts and criminal deals?

    • October 14, 2019 at 1:14 pm

Trump has sided with the other side in a war against the Kurds.
He likes to say he doesn’t want war, but he is facilitating it on behalf of foreign leaders.
“Treason is criminal disloyalty to the state. It is a crime that covers some of the more extreme acts against one’s nation or sovereign. This usually includes things such as participating in a war against one’s native country.” Putin’s war on the U.S. today is in the cyber sphere.
Trump is siding with Putin and oil. Trump is facilitating a war against our allies the Kurds, whom our military have befriended, trusted, and fought alongside against ISIS. After all the death, sweat, blood and tears to contain ISIS, thanks to traitor Trump ISIS is back.

“In July of 2018, when Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin met in Helsinki, most people were simply gobsmacked by Trump’s obsequious attitude, how he looked to the Russian autocrat before answering any question, and his overall impression of astounding weakness. But Putin not only swaggered to the podium with assurance, he brought with him a list. A list of things that he and Trump had discussed as targets for future action. The nature of the list wasn’t perfectly clear for American audiences, but Daily Beast Russian Media Analyst Julia Davis helpfully translated the items clutched between Putin’s fingers as he stood confidently next to Trump.
That may seem to be a decade ago, but amazingly it’s been just a little more than a year since one man left that conference looking defeated and the other smiled all the way home. And check, check, double-check with an underline, those items certainly were addressed.

    • October 14, 2019 at 1:16 pm

“Finally, the Syria item comes with a nice little explainer about “joint humanitarian efforts.” So all is good there. Unless, of course, those humanitarian efforts are directed at how Europe will deal with the 11,000 ISIS fighters that Trump wants to push their way”. (alternet)

“Russia has long been accused of carrying out systematic attacks against hospitals and clinics in rebel-held areas as part of a strategy to help Assad victory in the eight-year-old war.
Physicians for Human Rights, an advocacy group that tracks attacks on medical workers in Syria, has documented at least 583 such attacks since 2011, 266 of them since Russia intervened in September 2015. At least 916 medical workers have been killed since 2011.
Syrian health care workers said they believed the UN list actually became a target menu for Russian and Syrian air forces.
From 29 April to mid-September, as Russian and Syrian government forces assaulted the last rebel pocket in the northwest, 54 hospitals and clinics in opposition territory were attacked, the UN human rights office said. At least seven had tried to protect themselves by adding their location to the deconfliction list, according to the World Health Organisation.
On 5-6 May, Russia attacked four. All were on the list.”
–This is the sleazy murderous kleptocrat Trump is working for and dragging us down with him.

You probably know, but Hunter Biden will be on ABC’s Nightline tonight, if anybody’s interested. (That’s a show I never watch!)

To me, he’s like the forgotten brother and I’ve always felt sorry for him. First he loses his mother and younger sister, then his brother, he’s fought alcohol and drug problems throughout his life and talks about the continuing struggles, he had a (probably co-dependent, not that I’m an expert) three-year relationship with Beau’s wife after his brother passed and the year after Hunter and his former wife separated, he married again this year …

stories that could be told about all kinds of families, no matter who your father is …

and now today’s Ukraine/China fiasco. I wish him all the best in the future.

Vox: “When Trump announced that the US would be leaving Syria last week, he wasn’t telling the truth.
What he did was remove 50 service members out of the country’s north to make way for Turkey’s incursion. But now that Turkey is all in and chaos is widespread, he’s taken a further step: removing all 1,000 US troops from the area.”……”But the news will also please Assad and Russian President Vladimir Putin, who want more control of the country and America out. And of course, if the Kurds felt abandoned by Trump already, they certainly will now.”

    • October 14, 2019 at 9:00 pm

      Following Trump announcement:
“Russia-backed Syrian army sweeps in after U.S. announces abrupt exit”.
“(Reuters) – Russia-backed Syrian forces took rapid advantage of an abrupt U.S. retreat from Syria on Monday, deploying deep inside Kurdish-held territory south of the Turkish frontier less than 24 hours after Washington announced a full withdrawal. Washington’s Kurdish former allies said they invited in the government troops as an emergency step to help fend off an assault by Turkey, launched last week after President Donald Trump moved his troops aside in what the Kurds call a betrayal.” (politicus.usa)

    • October 14, 2019 at 9:01 pm

Remembering: Trump said last week that he knew what he was doing on Syria ever since he talked to Putin about it in Helsinki.

  62. October 15, 2019 at 12:09 pm

Remarkable Richard Engel in Northern Syria to Maddow:
    (have transcribed)
“What we’re seeing right now, it may sound very, very complicated…all these different factions,
we’re talking about the Kurds, and the Syrians and the Russians and the Turks,
but what is actually happening if you break it down is fairly simple. What happened a few days ago – it seems like a long time ago: President Trump in this phone call gave Turkey a green light to invade Northern Syria. They say they didn’t do it, President Trump is going on and on, says he didn’t do it..the White House issued a statement after their phone call saying that the U.S. troops would be pulling back and that the Turks would be moving in.
So – there’s the green light.”

    • October 15, 2019 at 12:11 pm

Engel: “But as you said earlier this is a major NATO country. Turkey has an enormous army but it is not using its army entirely. It is also using these Arab militias, and the Arab militias are critical to this story because part of these Arab militias, these shock troops that have been coming in, attacking the Kurds here in Northern Syria, they include ISIS and al Qaeda members according to multiple U.S. officials.
And it has been the shock troops as they’ve been moving through this area killing civilians – that is what caused the Kurds to panic, that is what caused the Kurds to change sides.
So, in this panic, as these atrocities were taking place, they reached over and they made a deal with the Assad government – which is backed up by Russia – and said “Come in and help us”. And as they were making this deal, the U.S. is leaving.”

    • October 15, 2019 at 12:12 pm

Engel: “So, the Kurds saw the shock troops come in, backed up by extremists, they see the Americans are leaving, they made a deal – they reached out to Assad. And said “Come and help us”.
And right now, tonight, you are seeing this land grab, the Assad forces trying to take as much territory and the Turks trying to take as much territory so that they can come up with some sort of deal, that each have something in their hands to negotiate with.”

    • October 15, 2019 at 12:13 pm

Engel: “So that’s where we are. With the Americans stuck between these two colliding forces,
trying to figure out how they carry out what they call their “deliberate exit”. They don’t want to get into a fight, they want to get out of the country in a slow and dignified way, but they want to do it and not leave their allies behind, stranded. So now their allies have made a deal with Assad.
Everyone here is saying President Trump started this.”

    • October 15, 2019 at 12:15 pm

Engel: “The Turks moved in with this brutal force that I think really shocked a lot of people. And now I think there is potentially some effort from the Trump Administration to fix this – just in the last few hours we hear that Vice President Pence is going to come here on a diplomatic mission and he is going to ‘save the day’ and work out some sort of agreement between now the Kurds and the Syrian government and Turkey.
So that’s what happened. And that’s how it is unfolding and we’re seeing the map, the lines in the sand, the map of the Middle East redrawn as we speak.”

Wendy Sherman (read her CV sometime!) to O’Donnell:
“The president has basically handed the country back over to Assad, to Putin and to Iran and to ISIS…”
“I guess we’ll continue to be asking this question for a long time, but why does he want to do these things for Vladimir Putin?” O’Donnell asked.
“This is the more than $64 million question. Maybe this is the $10 billion question — if that’s what Donald Trump is really worth — though I doubt it,” Sherman replied.
“Clearly he has business interests. Clearly Putin has something on Donald Trump,” she said.
“But the other thing — and I hate to say this — is Donald Trump really believes in strongmen. He believes that the president should have unbridled powers. His attorney general, William Barr, believes the president should have unbridled powers, she noted.
“So the president of the United States likes strongmen.
He wants to be Vladimir Putin — and clearly Vladimir Putin has something on Donald Trump,”
    Sherman concluded.

    “The Demolition of U.S. Diplomacy.”
Fmr Ambassador William Burns, with RM last night:
“Not since Joe McCarthy has the State Department suffered such a devastating blow.”
“In my three and a half decades as a U.S. Foreign Service officer, proudly serving five presidents and ten secretaries of state from both parties, I’ve never seen an attack on diplomacy as damaging, to both the State Department as an institution and our international influence, as the one now underway.
The contemptible mistreatment of Marie Yovanovitch—the ambassador to Ukraine who was dismissed for getting in the way of the president’s scheme to solicit foreign interference in U.S. elections—is just the latest example of President Donald Trump’s dangerous brand of diplomatic malpractice. His is a diplomacy of narcissism, bent on advancing private interests at the expense of our national interests….
…To clean up the institutional wreckage in the State Department will take many years.
The damage to our influence and reputation may prove to be even longer lasting—and harder to repair.”

    • October 15, 2019 at 1:53 pm

About Trump: “He’s Impulsive, he’s dismissive of expertise and he doesn’t pay attention to consequences whether intended or untintended. The Middle East is the land of unintended consequences. And so not to handle this carefully and think through what is a very complicated choice to make, I think is a huge embarrassment and it’s going to cost us in many ways. It already is.”
Maddow: “Do you agree that the ultimate beneficiary of this are Russia, Syria and Iran?
Burns: “And ISIS. Right. It’s quite a force.”
