Dignified and classy. All the way. There will never be another in my lifetime, like him. Grateful to live in the Age of Obama.

I’m back from a short stay in Washington, DC. Just loved being able to tour places by myself. I discovered so many things that I knew (as I should having taught American History to 8th graders for 18 years, lol), but appreciated it so much more. The portraits of the Obamas was my highlight. They are magnificant, especially President Obama’s. I went back three times to just soak it in. I also walked the mall from the Capitol Building all the way to the Lincoln Memorial, then to the Martin Luther King Jr. memorial, Fdr’s and finishing up at the Washington Monument again. There were several conversations I overheard people were having as to which Democrat they’re going to vote for which was interesting as most of those people had not made up their minds. All in all, I had a fabulous time.

Betsy, What a lovely description of your trip. Wonderful that you were able to take your time and truly soak up everything. We haven’t been back to tour since we moved in 2007. Been to northern VA to visit or help friends, but no time to tour. I so want to see the portraits and also the AA museum. My ability to walk long distances i(without a bathroom close by) is a negative, but I will find a way to make it work.

They have buses, $1.00, that can take you around to all the monuments; also there are bathrooms in most of the monuments. I did go to the AA Museum. It was outstanding. I was in there for 4 hours and only saw 3 floors!! It was also the busiest one, in spite of it being Friday am.

Oh Betsy! Your trip sounds wonderful! I’ve wanted to go roam DC by myself for years. I often think about the awesome TOD meetup we had a few yrs back. ❤️ I didn’t make to everywhere I wanted to go that time. The NMAAHC (really every museum I can set foot in) and the Library of Congress are high on my list. I want to visit the White House once the nazis are gone and the place has been properly fumigated. Can’t wait to follow in your footsteps one day! 🥂

You will love it. I couldn’t bring myself to see the White House because of who’s there, but did love everything else. The portraits of the Obama’s are stunning.

      • October 8, 2019 at 5:16 am

Sounds like you had a fabulous time. I have never done a solo trip. I think that I should try it. There are so many museums I would like to visit

    Echoes of Watergate….
Michael Schmidt: “Those of us who here…in Washington in those previous times know there are certain days when you can feel the grinding of the gears of history, and those gears have now caught the coat-tails of
    Donald Trump.
O’Donnell: “…2nd whistleblower puts the exclamation mark on this day.”
Schmidt: “3rd Aricle of impeachment against Richard Nixon was ignoring the subpoenas of the Congress. So the subpoenas…sent to the White House today…will come to be seen as our important historical documents.”

“I can confirm that my firm and my team represent multiple whistleblowers in connection
to the underlying August 12, 2019, disclosure to the Intelligence Community Inspector General,”
Andrew Bakaj, a second lawyer, said on Twitter.”

Andy Card – former Chief of Staff at the WH (during Bush’s time) … saying on MSNBC that the President has a tough job to do, both-siderism etc etc etc … how anyone at this stage can still support ?

    • 19 Don
      October 7, 2019 at 11:10 am

Why would card even open his mouth? The more someone from Bush’s team opens their mouth the more we are reminded of his Presidency, which last I checked wasn’t a good thing.

Michael Moore: “It’s called ‘Joker’ — and all we Americans have heard about this movie
is that we should fear it and stay away from it…We’ve been told that police will be at every screening this weekend in case of ‘trouble. Our country is in deep despair, our constitution is in shreds, a rogue maniac from Queens has access to the nuclear codes — but for some reason, it’s a movie we should be afraid of.
I would suggest the opposite: The greater danger to society may be if you DON’T go see this movie….
Yes, there’s a disturbed clown in that mirror, but he’s not alone — we’re standing right there beside him.”
    https://www.indiewire.com/2019/10/joker-michael-moore-1202179054/
—I don’t watch horror movies, not even ones with the Heath Ledger, but imo Moore is not wrong.

Apparently Parnas and Fruman thought that this was a simple shakedown. Oh boy, are they in for a rude awakening. 5K1 boys, 5K1.

With the latest being multiple Whistleblowers, and added to that, comes word that Trump must now turn over his tax returns to the District Attorney’s office in New York. There are simply too many fronts for Trump to defend. History is littered with Despots, and even Presidents, that thought that they could somehow or someway out run justice.

Also a 30-minute conversation was clocked, but only 10 minutes of exchange is on the transcript.

  14. October 7, 2019 at 12:09 pm

    Ah for example:
“Three big Republican donors with ties to Trump and Rudy Giuliani—Lev Parnas, Igor Fruman, and Harry Sargeant III—were working to replace the CEO of Naftogaz, the Ukrainian state gas company, with another executive at the company, Andrew Favorov, who they apparently perceived as being more friendly to their
    profit motives.
The men met with Favorov in Texas to propose a plan to import large quantities of liquefied gas from the U.S. to Ukraine, telling him that TRUMP SUPPORTED THE PLAN.
Dale Perry, a former business partner of Favorov’s, “told AP in an interview that Favorov described the meeting to him soon after it happened and that Favorov perceived it to be a shakedown.”
Perry and a second source say that “Favorov said Parnas told him TRUMP PLANNED TO remove U.S. Ambassador Marie Yovanovitch and replace her with someone MORE OPEN TO AIDING THEIR BUSINESS INTERESTS.”
On Friday, Giuliani took credit for having Yovanovitch fired.
At the same time, soon-to-be-former Energy Secretary Rick Perry was also pressing for a shake-up at Naftogaz that would have moved a connected Republican into leadership there.”

    Maddow to O’Donnell:
    About her new book “BLOWOUT”.
“When I realized the scale of the oil deal Putin did with Rex Tillerson…this $half a trillion oil deal,
that was going to ….you know, enough oil to burn the planet up twice over: In terms of what they were going to try to get out of the Russian Arctic Sea, when I realized the scale of that and then that was blocked by (Obama) sanctions, to then see Tillerson who did that deal with Putin brought in to running United States foreign policy – under the next Administration that Russia helped install – to me I felt like this is something we have to face. Like they really, really need to get rid of those sanctions in order to keep their one lifeblood economy thing going. And we underestimate their need for that to our peril. We have a diversified economy – they really don’t. They really have only Oil and Gas and they suck at drilling their own gas. And they need other Western majors to come in and help them. We blocked that when we sanctioned them. Their whole operation against us has been about dropping those sanctions, and they’re getting closer every day.”

    • October 7, 2019 at 1:28 pm

(Don’t know what RM has said about the following in her book – but imo):
Tillerson being made Secretary of State (Putin’s choice I’ve heard) creased me then and ever since.
That he was party to decades of Exxon-Mobil climate crisis cover-up. That he’d received the highest ‘Order of Friendship’ from Putin. That he made the oil deal with Putin that Maddow references. How could you doubt what Tillerson was installed to do = Lift sanctions so that Putin could start drilling the Siberian Arctic with his pals. Exxon-Mobil has the know-how to drill the Siberian Arctic, Putin has the real estate,
Trump’s role is to lift sanctions for them.
–Ever grateful for RM. Will devour her investigative work and fabulosity on receipt of ‘BLOWOUT’.

Last December my Brother passed, it was a long journey to his resting place. That October he gave me one of his usual challenges: I want to take my wife on holiday, somewhere warm, somewhere we haven’t been. Dear Brother, I said, it has to be a very short flight or drive, & where the heck haven’t you been? They were avid travellers. So, I proceeded to look up places, every single place I came up w/ they’d been there. Then he passed & on my journey to his funeral, it occurred to me that my brother, my best friend, gave me that exercise of looking for a holiday place to give me a sense of purpose in a horrible situation (his illness). But guess what? When I gave my eulogy at his service, I said we’re all taking this trip to a warm place, for him, & celebrate his marvelous life. And I found that place. There are about 17 islands in the Canaries, surely they hadn’t been to all? So, we’re off to Gran Canaria, converging from all corners of diaspora. One of those days would’ve been his birthday. I feel so blessed to have found this gorgeous space for us to celebrate & find a sense of peace & celebration. 💞

      Dearest Gazelle,
      – The sweet mission your brother gave you.
      – The journey of discovery.
      – The celebration of a life well-lived.
      – The respite in paradise.
      – The memories.
      – The love that made it all possible.
Just a few of the most beautiful gifts in this world. The sharing of it lifts my soul.
      Thank you! ❤️

Dearest Dudette, exactly! I had to make it so, & we always laughed about his challenges to me. BTW, I also gave him some, being little sis did not deter. It’s poignant that he won’t be there with us, but strangely I feel he will.💞
