The jury could have convicted Amber Guyger of murder, manslaughter or acquitted her. She now faces between 5 and 99 years in prison and will be sentenced later today. Botham Jean’s attorneys said the jury sent questions about the Castle Doctrine measure while deliberating.
I have a friend who is an attorney and thats the explanation she gave. For prosecutors, they want the defendants to exhaust every possible defense of their actions, because then there's nothing left for them to bring up after the fact.
That makes perfect sense, they let the defense in essence shot its best shot. And then if the defendant is found guilty there are no grounds for reversal because of possible error by the judge.
