Another retirement! Is Stacy Adams interested? Sen. Johnny Isakson (R-Ga.) says he will resign at the end of the year, citing health problems. The 74-year-old Republican, who is serving his third term, said Wednesday that he has informed Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp of his decision, effective Dec. 31.

“I am leaving a job I love because my health challenges are taking their toll on me, my family and my staff. My Parkinson’s has been progressing, and I am continuing physical therapy to recover from a fall in July. In addition, this week I had surgery to remove a growth on my kidney,” the senator said.

About the wall: “…Trump isn’t about to let things like stealing private property or violating any other law get in his way. Instead, he told his officials, “Don’t worry, I’ll pardon you.”
Which would make an excellent slogan for any lawless regime. And a very nice article of impeachment.”

Without Parliament there may not be a mechanism to have a Second Referendum, a 2nd vote.
The British want to Remain imo, and so Boris and the far right have finagled this latest obstacle.

  19. August 28, 2019 at 3:11 pm

    Lawrence O’Donnell last night:
“We begin tonight with the breaking news from Deutsche Bank today that Deutsche Bank has
Donald Trump’s tax returns….source close to Deutsche Bank says the Trump tax returns reveal that the President paid little to no income tax in some years, and the source says that Deutsche Bank is in possession of loan documents that show Donald Trump has obtained loans with co-signers. And that he would not have been able to obtain those loans without co-signers.
The source close to Deutsche Bank says that the co-signers of Donald Trump’s Deutsche Bank loans are Russian billionaires close to Vladimir Putin.
If true that would explain every kind word Donald Trump has ever said about Russia and Vladimir Putin. If true, that would be a signifiernt factor in Vladimir Putin’s publicly stated preference for presidential candidate Donald Trump over presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.”

    • August 28, 2019 at 3:13 pm

      (Have transcribed.)
Johnson (former pullitzer prize tax reporter for NYT):
“The bank gets your tax returns or a transcript of your information…if you apply for a mortgage you sign a document allowing your bank to check with the IRS to see if the income you have reported to them is the income that you are reporting to the bank. Now of course Donald has a long history that I have documented, showing 2 different sets of documents to different people that don’t match up…..how he has inflated his wealth.
O’Donnell: “You have studied DT’s wealth, DT’s earning over time, you are one of the first to puncture the myth of Donald Trump as billionaire….we heard in court the lawyers for the House who are seeking this information and they say they are seeking it in a Russian money-laundering investigation…but they’ve also said that they need the loan documents and everything else that the bank might have.”

    • August 28, 2019 at 3:14 pm

” If those loan documents show co-signers…your understanding of DT’s finances at a time he is trying to get loans from DB at a time when every other bank has turned him down —-would it make sense that he needs co-signers at that point?
“Oh absolutely and I’ve…argued for several years now that Deutsche Bank in making these loans had to have someone in the background who is guaranteeing the loans. It would be surprising if there were actually co-signers – that would be absolutely astonishing
and I would think mandate his removal from office.”

    • August 28, 2019 at 3:17 pm

Johnson: “But Donald has done this throughout his life. He persuaded Chase Bank to not file the mortgage on Mar-a-Lago which is a violation of NY state law. Chase bank made huge loans to Donald that were unsecured because they knew his father would pay the loans off…and they wanted to curry favor with him. And Deutsche Bank has been a major Russian money laundering bank. They’ve paid over 600 million dollars in fines for laundering Russian money in New York, in German and in Cyprus. And relevant to this also, Donald Trump’s Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross was the vice chairman of the bank of Cyprus, a huge money laundering operation whose CEO is the former Head of Deutsche Bank,
and whose other vice Chairman is an appointee of Vladimir Putin.

    • August 28, 2019 at 3:18 pm

O’Donnell: “If (Trump) had to look around for backers for co-signers of his loans, is Russia where he would end up looking?
Johnson; It would be the best place for him to go and it fits with he family’s own public statements they’ve tried to walk back since, about getting lots of assets from Russia…
Donald may well have other backers the next places to look would be the Saudis, the Emiratis, and perhaps some people in Turkey given Michael Flynn his national security adviser having been on the payroll illegally of Turkish interests when he was in the WH. And what’s really surprising…
if the (Russian) names are on the loan papers this wasn’t done with a wink and a nod.”

Fox says Buttigieg admits that Obama economy wasn’t working for most of us was partly to blame for Trump rise. Well dear Pete Buttigieg Barack Obama took over this economy when it was in a dam mess and he got the economy back on the right track without any help from the Republicans. Just imagine how things would be if Trump took over an economy in the shape Obama took over.

    • August 28, 2019 at 3:31 pm

The global economy was close to collapse when PBO took over and that was decades in the making. President Obama built a solid foundation despite 100% GOP obstruction, which has carried us through even under the dumbest most corrupt GOP president in our history. It is dumb for Buttigieg to say otherwise and (am annoyed) btw have read that gay women want a woman, cis or otherwise, to be president.

This morning, they were discussing polls and how we need VP Biden’s experience. I don’t dispute this at all. Mika said that PBO did not have the Biden type of experience. She basically said that he did not come up through the ranks, among other things. It really rubbed me the wrong way when she included in her statement that all PBO did was write a bunch of executive orders. Those executive orders were written due to obstruction from the GOP.

        • August 28, 2019 at 4:11 pm

Love VP Biden but he cannot play middle of the road to or even DREAM he can triangulate with GOP.
The Putin Koch Party would use their own mothers and they will use Joe.
He has to take strong progressive positions.

One of my daughters has been living and working in Germany the last five years. She married a German and has two children born in Germany. She has kept her American citizenship and they are all going to come to the US for three years and she will be working here for her company during that time. Her children were automatically US citizens. If they quit letting the military children automatically being citizens they most likely won’t allow expat children born out of the Country citizenship. Are any of these old rules grandfathered in? I hope the Courts throw out all these changes especially with the undetermined detainment.
I am also concerned for Lawrence O’Donnell after his revealing info with only one source.

This is my conundrum too. My two Brothers were Trump voters, one of my nieces and her husband is anti everything very religious and Trump supporters. I either have to demand no politics talk or leave when they start in as I tried to argue facts with them to no avail. We all just get angry with each other. I face this in my once a week Art Guild meetings too as I live in a rural area in a Blue state. We were split about half and half Dem/GOP when Obama was elected. Unfortunately, most of the Dems either died or moved away leaving a couple of us against a sea of Rush Limbaugh/Fox listeners. Earlier generations had a no politics, religion or sex topics in polite conversation rule. We tried that too, but many do not realize the breath and scope of politics. That rule seems to be out the window these days. I feel isolated at times.

Maddow: “The Trump administration has no idea what it is doing.
Or how to handle the inevitable reaction to this from the American people. They have no idea what they are doing here except for the fact that they have decided to tell parents that they must withhold life-saving ongoing medical treatment from their seriously ill kids on orders from the U.S. Government so they can get out of this country because president trump wants them out. Imagine being a U.S. Official who has been doing that kind of work. Now imagine being the parent of a sick kid who is holding on to a letter sent to you by those U.S. Officials and realizing this is what you are up against and this is the exact way your child’s life is being put at in the very short term over the next 30 days by this president. By this president. By this administration and the people who work for him and their priorities. Imagine.”

    Good Morning TODbots.

“David Koch, who was worth some $42 billion, and his brother Charles Koch poured massive amounts of money into right-wing and libertarian causes over the past four decades, including funding climate change denial through conservative think tanks and politicians. The Koch brothers founded the political advocacy group Americans for Prosperity in 2004, which is credited with turning the “tea party” into a full-fledged political movement.
But “David Koch Was the Ultimate Climate Change Denier.”

    • August 29, 2019 at 11:32 am

LEONARD: “The brothers…they hold a very vehement anti-government view. They truly believe that society needs to be organized as a marketplace, with only privately run roads, hospitals, insurance. They don’t believe in Social Security. They don’t believe in Medicare. So they’ve been steadily pushing back government regulations and programs like that.”

    • August 29, 2019 at 11:34 am

“And decades ago, this company realized that if the government regulates greenhouse gas emissions or even puts a price on emitting carbon into the sky, it could really hurt Koch’s profits for decades to come. So the company has been, I think, unique and vitally important in derailing any action on climate change, going back to the early 1990s.
…carbon: This is what motivated the company.”

    • August 29, 2019 at 11:35 am

LEONARD: “Fossil fuels put gigatons of greenhouse gas emissions into the sky every year for free, essentially. And the cost of that pollution will be borne by society for decades. It’s what we call in the business community an “externality.” You get to externalize the cost of that pollution. So, if a price is put on that pollution, it changes the entire economics of fossil fuels production. And the big threat to companies like Koch Industries, ExxonMobil, Chevron is that this could hurt demand for fossil fuels in future decades. ”
…for years Koch was systematically taking oil without paying for it.

    • August 29, 2019 at 11:38 am

“Koch went after any moderate Republicans who acknowledged that climate change was real,
who supported any effort to put a price on carbon. And Koch helped to drive those people out of office. So it played a vitally important role in making it clear to Republicans that they could not support any effort on climate change.”
Kochtopus: A “360-degree machine that affects the public debate.”
