    Good Morning TODVille! Happy friday.

Eye-opening, heartbreaking, thought-provoking, American Factory is a heavy glimpse into the reality of factory work and the clash of cultures. Brutal truth. At times I found it difficult to process the whole of it. Excellent documentary. Looking forward to MORE MORE MORE from Higher Ground.

okay will subscribe to Netflix…only love for the First Couple can do this thing!

      • August 23, 2019 at 11:17 am

There’s quite a lot of good stuff to watch. If you do subscribe, also check out the first episode of David Letterman’s new show last year, a really GREAT long interview with PBO.

I watched it last night and really enjoyed it, Meta. I also watch a lot of Amazon Prime shows. Just finished binging on “Poldark”. 🙂

I really enjoyed it too. It was all those things you said Meta. It was like a window into the reality of foreign-owned factories without much resolution…

Rep. Seth Moulton of Massachusetts drops out of the presidential race after failing to break through in a crowded Democratic field

A congressman since 2015, Moulton served four tours of duty in Iraq as a Marine and focused his campaign on foreign policy and national security. But he was unable to move up among the party’s moderates, who have coalesced for now around former vice president Joe Biden.
Moulton’s policy positions were generally unappealing to Democratic liberals, and he was unable to corral enough donors or rank high enough in polls to gain a place on the debate stage in June and July.

Unimaginable cruelty and irresponsibility by Bolsonaro:
Three weeks of millions of miles of the Amazon burning, snuffing out 20% of the world’s oxygen, a massive unleashing of carbon dioxide which will exponentially speed up global warming. The cruelty of destroying the ancestral home of one million indigenous people = 400 tribes each with its own language. Burning up huge numbers of of the world’s extraordinary plant and animal species.

    • August 23, 2019 at 10:43 am

Cattle ranching is the biggest driver of deforestation in the Amazon. Burger King, ConAgra, Kroga and Pizza Hut are in favor of ‘deforestation-free’ beef. Walmart and shoe manufacturers like Nike have a hand in it We can stop this tragedy if the entitled in America, China, India and Russia quit eating beef (inevitable btw).

    • August 23, 2019 at 10:46 am

“Farmers and ranchers understand the president’s message as a license to commit arson with wanton impunity, in order to aggressively expand their operations into the rainforest.” (Poirier, Amazon Watch)
It happens here in the U.S. with the same corporate mentality: 260 million acres of U.S. forests have been cleared to create cropland for beef consumption.

    • August 23, 2019 at 10:49 am

Similarly, corporate interests are burning off forests in Malaysia and Borneo in order to grow palm oil trees. Life means nothing, killing off orangutans and clouded leopards means nothing. Please avoid buying palm oil.

Totally stoked by Bernie Sanders climate action statements on Chris Hayes last night.
Prez candidates are psyched on this issue. Thinking maybe Inslee will have time now to organize events with them and go forward in a BIG, GIANT, way.

    • August 23, 2019 at 11:37 am

Sanders spelled it out that we have only a “handful of years left” to get climate crisis under control.
Also that the planet is “BECOMING UNINHABITABLE”.
Do we have the stomach for the truth?

    Speaking of Netflix…documentary ‘The Family”:
“which is based on a decade-plus of investigative work by journalist Jeff Sharlet, it’s explained that a secretive group of conservative Christian power brokers —
including Vice President Mike Pence and former Attorney General Jeff Sessions —
preach this idea of the “wolf-king,” a leader anointed by God to enact the Christian right agenda.
The ruthlessness or immoral conduct of such a leader
isn’t seen to be at odds with the forgiving spirit of Jesus Christ.
    On the contrary…”
https://www.rightwingwatch.org/post/the-family-explores-secretive-group-focused-on-building-networks-of-power/—Terrified mafia boy is seen by Evangelicals as a miracle from heaven (and if you resist, you are resisting God).

  15. August 23, 2019 at 12:46 pm

“One of the hallmarks of neoliberal fascism is that the media is concentrated in relatively few hands, and that means that the media in the United States is largely owned by conservatives and the financial elite such as the Murdoch family and Sinclair broadcasting. What the conservative media has done is it has legitimated, enabled, sustained, articulated, and clarified for the American public Trump’s views…..
The mainstream media, on the other hand, is so cowardly that it takes seriously whatever Trump has to say every day, and rather than dissect it in ways that would suggest that we’re really in the midst of a fascist politics, it becomes a news feed in the 24/7 hour cycle.”

      August 23, 2019 at 6:28 pm

Corporate media cherry picks the news stories we hear – there is much we don’t. That’s why so many fluff stories about Kardashians, etc. are featured. One thing is true: If you control the media, you control the country. The genius of Fox News is they found an area in America that had NO radio stations or TV other than local, and filled the void. And change a lot of minds. Seems to be a pattern with Democrats/Liberals – forgetting about the common man, the average American. I hope our eventual nominee will change this.

And we live here, right here by inconceivable chance. Without exception we’re One species, already connected, But apparently Sauron And The Ring want to kick the rest of us off the island.
(Sicken, punish, enslave, starve, drown, burn, etcetera, also acceptable.)
…Thinking back to my son when he was little, enraptured by his hero David Attenborough, and the slew of nature movies like “Blue Planet” (even the ones about creepy crawlies), watching them over and over, whooping about all the details, drawing ocean scenes, the rainforest canopies, so excited to one day see the world. And if he has children, I want them to have that same feeling…

Exactly this. I hope we can figure out a way to remove/void/nullify particularly the lifetime judicial appointments from this illegitimate administration. They are “fruits of the poisonous tree” as far as I’m concerned. Part of the Repugs’ long game was about taking over our judicial system for decades into the future. But some folks thought people were being hysterical and hyperbolic about this. Not!

    Good morning, TOD!

As always, Nerdy, thank you for keeping these home fires burning! I also thank all of our TOD family members for your contributions of articles, tweets, videos and thoughts.

Just finished a “girls” roadtrip with my Goddaughter, accompanying her from Houston to Tulsa. As she has only had her license for six months and her car for only three weeks, no way was I going to let her do a 10 hour drive alone! Of course, it took us four days to do 10 hours! We stopped in Huntsville TX to see her sister, a new freshman at Sam Houston University; San Marcos so that she could visit friends; Austin so that I could visit one of my USMC sisters; and Oklahoma City to visit TOD sister, Carolyn! It was so wonderful visiting with her; I’m happy to report that she is recovering well from her shoulder surgery! Arrived in Tulsa the night before my return home. Was able to visit the Greenwood Community Center and pay homage to the Ancestors killed in the Black Wall Street Massacre; and do a drive by tour of Tulsa University.

My connecting flight was three hours late leaving St Louis; I arrived home at 3:30 am yesterday morning. Guess who was the big dummy who arranged for a Friday morning delivery of some of my household goods?!? What was I thinking…

Am dashing out the door to my family reunion. Have a Blessed day!
