Run….Run…..RUN and go see The Lion King. It is a wonderful immersive experience.

My theater gasped from the first glimpse of Pride Rock, cheered at the love and bond between Simba and Mufasa, cried at Mufasa’s death, marveled at the mesmerizing cunning of Scar, laughed at the brilliant pairing of hyenas, Timon and Pumba, Rafiki, and Zazu, fell in love with BeyoncĂŠ as Nala, hailed the fierceness of the female lions, smiled as Simba and Nala discovered their own love, and danced along to songs old and new.

When the movie ended there were screams and applauses. It is perfect in every way. 😀

“Fifty years ago, in 1969, we witnessed the Apollo moon landing…
Chicago Black Panther Party Chairman Fred Hampton was assassinated by the police.
LBGTQ activists fought back at Stonewall. The Chicago Seven were put on trial.
That same year, New York’s Young Lords were founded.”

The New York Young Lords 50th Anniversary:
“During the rest of 2019, the Young Lords of NY will be holding events across the city, in conjunction with many other groups who are continuing the struggle for the basic human rights of food, clothing, shelter, health care, justice, and self-determination for Puerto Rico.”

Yes, he is the beat potus of my lifetime, and I’m old! I was born when FDR was president, not that I remember him. Obama is the best for a number of reasons, one, because he has a strong moral center, both personally and politically. I cannot think of another president in my life with such a strong moral compass. Righl now, that is the most important and salient reason for his greatness I can think of.

Now, I have info about the film American Heretics. I saw it this afternoon, and I need to see it again to digest it all. It has a strong message, and people I know and love are in it. It is being shown at non-profit locations, and I have a list of locations and dates.
    July 28 Houston July 31 Columbus, Ohio Gateway Film Center; August 28 Camas, WA Liberty Theatre;
    August 3-25 Hudson, NY; Aug 9-22 Grand Rapids, Mi Urban Institute for Contemporary Arts; Aug 14 Norfolk, VA ;
September 3, Sebastopol CA, Rialto Cinema Sebastopol; September 4 Berkeley, CA Rialto Cinema Elmwood. Following this filming there will be a Q & A with Catherine Butler the filmmaker who lies in Berkeley.
For further information the website is http://www.americanhereticsthe film.com. There is some enlightening and maybe new history also in the film. One of the producers was on the panel after the film and he said that after filming, he realized that Oklahoma is a microcosm of the country.
The viewing today was sold out, mostly by members of Mayflower Congregational UCC, and members of First Unitarian OKC, sister church of the other congregation in the film.
    We WILL overcome.

      Important indeed….

i remember the blow back that Sec Clinton got when she talked about the deplorables….

This thread is indeed important.. he says …the 2020 DEMs have a riole to play that is different from the HOUSE Dems..

We should also keep in mind that Sec Clinton…had all kinds of plans and ideas …Trump’s plan was to ban muslims…. deport brown people….. and put blk folks in their place….his plan was to save America for white folks …he promoted a white nationalist agenda..as he does today….

so white folks have to stand w/blk and brown folks…and declare that this white nationalist agenda…is not our Agenda…that this is NOT who we choose to be…as Pres Carter says….we get to choose who we want to be…

Highest sexual assault in the USA. Over 70 Alaska communities have zero police protection.
One in 3 Alaska villages have no local police (also no fire protection, first responder = years of budget cuts.)
“No state troopers to stop an active shooter, no village police officers to break up family fights, not even untrained city or tribal cops to patrol the streets. Almost all of the communities are primarily Alaska Native.”

    • July 22, 2019 at 9:38 am

GOP Governor Dunleavy: “was part of a Republican majority in the state senate that consistently rejected new revenue measures such as an income tax.”
Dunleavy is for starving the Treasury in order to do away with critical government services across Alaska. And doubling down by raising the PFD ($3,000) giveaway to residents. Residents are protesting: “Alaska doesn’t need billionaire Koch Corporate Carpetbaggers.”

    • July 22, 2019 at 9:39 am

“They are looking at options that would consolidate, privatize or shrink services in the university, health-care and ferry systems, rather than eliminate them after this round of budget cuts.”
–The only sector under Dunleavy’s protection is O & G.
–KOCH OIL’s America for Prosperity is literally all over Alaska communities right now.
–imo what we have here is a test run for a straight up Libertarian regime.

Pls do not adjust your sets:
Trump “has appointed former Wisconsin governor Scott Walker to the Board of Trustees of the ĂŠlite Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars in the Smithsonian Institution”. (urbanmilwaukee.com)
The center (https://www.wilsoncenter.org/about-the-wilson-center) is a think tank: “a gathering place for some of the best and brightest scholars and experts from around the world.”

    • July 22, 2019 at 10:50 am

Scott Walker is no bright bulb but he has been immensely malleable for the KOCH brothers. When they first recruited him he’d just dropped out of Marquette University. They funded and finagled him into governor of Wisconsin on a mission to destroy. Trump famously said: “Wisconsin’s doing terribly… it’s in turmoil, the roads are a disaster….the schools are a disaster, and they’re fighting like crazy because there’s no money for the schools…”
–As governor, Walker did his best to bring down one of the finest research Universities in the world.

    • July 22, 2019 at 10:50 am

As part of the Woodrow Center, Scott Walker once again would be a wolf in the henhouse:
anti-research, anti-university, anti-knowledge, anti-science. Another example of Trump choosing insiders tasked with the job of bringing honored institutions (and our U.S. government) down: The very patriotic Bannon/GOP/Putin dream.

“George Takei opens up about his childhood in Japanese American internment camps and Donald Trump.”
In a remarkable interview: “The Japanese Americans did get a formal apology, President Ronald Reagan did officially and on behalf of the U.S. government apologize for it. He did sign the Civil Liberties Act, which paid a token redress of $20,000. And it is relevant to the larger story of the African American heritage as well as what’s going on at our southern border… In our case, we were children intact with our families, our parents.
But, in this case, it is really tinged with evil because not only are they separated, but torn away from their parents. But rather than being kept where they were torn away so that they can be reunited, they are randomly scattered in outlying areas like Minnesota or Wisconsin or New Jersey. And when they’re ordered by the courts to be brought together, they can’t do that…”

Should we have expected this racist backlash because America elected a Black President…should we expect that those same forces will fight tooth and nail…that they will fight with all the tools in their arsenal to keep America from moving forward>>>>>>…to being what America has the promise of being ….
to make those words in the constitution…especially all of its Amendments…REAL…it is the amendments which strive to make a more perfect union..

We will have to fight just as hard to Bend that arc towards Justice…to make America a more perfect union….

    From MaddowBlog:

The RNC outraised the DNC in June, $20.7 million to $8.5 million, and as Politico noted, that’s not the only bad news for Democrats: in the latest FEC report “The DNC also spent almost as much money as it raised — $7.5 million — during that time and finished the month with $9.3 million cash on hand. Meanwhile, the RNC is building a large war chest during the lead-up to 2020 and had $43.5 million cash on hand at the end of the month.”

I’m donating to three different Dem candidates at present. I think alot of people are doing what I’m doing. I will donate to the DNC when I feel they are doing their job. If Congress starts to hold impeachment hearings after Muller’s testimony and the DNC asks for money….then they will get a green light from me. Waiting for moral leadership to blast out. Been waiting for a long time.

      • July 23, 2019 at 6:34 am

I understand carla. But i started giving to the dnc. They have been working and organizing on the ground helping other groups. I want to lend a hand to that . 3 groups have my attention now
ACLU and the NAACP Legal defense fund and the DNC. The struggle continues.

I had to go get a CT scan today for the crohn’s surgery l had two months ago, all is well. I had to drink three bottles of contrast dye so the doctors could get a good look at what’s going on. I couldn’t eat anything 24 hours before the procedure. If I didn’t have insurance I’d be up a certain creek, the price of some of these procedures is outrageous. And these f’ers want to get rid of Obamacare. To hell with each and every last one of them.

    • July 22, 2019 at 8:59 pm

Glad you are well and have good insurance to be able to get the care you need and deserve. I don’t know how this country can continue to deny the fact that Americans are struggling to keep up with these very high costs. It’s unconscionable.

We have lost the old “obamadiary”. It is sad to say. All the history of our journey with President Obama and his historic presidency Is no more. I know that there is a digital archive, but this place was ours, it was special. I did not realize how much it meant to me. The folks who came here to share. It became like family our way of touching PresOBama but it also galvanized us to be involved in any way that we could. I am glad to have been part of the TODers that met in DC. I wish we could have submitted the diary to the Obama foundation. How glorious would that have been.
