This wrongheaded decision on gerrymandering belies a basic principle of our democracy that the voters choose their elected officials & not the other way around. https://t.co/tdXvg4RuMq

What a gift to come across this interview with Julia “Hurricane” Hawkins. I’m as grateful for her life advice as I am impressed by her 100-meter dash time. https://t.co/8lc9Cimqyt
Understand your concern about this. But I'm not with the crowd that thinks that unless President Obama or Speaker Pelosi are pulling us through every issue, they aren't being Daddy and Mommy. We The People have our own voices, which we should use to go after TRUMP not Nancy.
JHC, I find this incredibly disturbing. Durbin and Feinstein did the same thing yesterday. While I’m quite sure she’s very busy, she could have thought through a better response than “I’m not paying attention, it’s somebody else’s problem.”
However tonight’s debate goes and despite the likely loss of followers this candid tweet will trigger, I really hope the egotistical Bernie Sanders will go down in flames tonight. I have come to see him as a deeply pernicious force in American politics.
This was a sight to behold. But you know what I believe @BreeNewsome will really be most remembered for? Her courageous teaching [some of it right here on Twitter] on issues of injustice that have been prevalent in the U.S. for hundreds of years. I’m sure books are forthcoming. pic.twitter.com/PTAvpGRIwk
I hate to sound like a whinning baby but OMG I miss you so much! Your class, your brilliance, your emphathy, your decorum, your respectfulness and last but not least your family. In other words every darn thing about you.
The candidates just started bickering and @KamalaHarris just had what will be the line of the night: “Hey guys, America does not want to witness a food fight. They want to know how we’re going to put food on their table.” #DemDebate2
— Ryan Knight, LightsForLiberty.org🗽 (@ProudResister) June 28, 2019
President @KamalaHarris is just what the Doctor ordered!
So true. All I've been able to think about every time she speaks is her standing on a stage next to him and how she would tear him apart. https://t.co/zmQurPtliP
But would she kick his lying ass out of the White House. These debates really don’t mean a dare thing. I remember how the word on the street was Obama lost the first debate to Romney. She’s a good debater ……..and.
Kamala going after Biden is strong but I think it exposes where she may get fact checked and give him a long term win. But he can’t stay genteel & above the fray now. She’s set the pace.
I think it’s a crappy format. You just don’t get to the meat and potatoes of what these candidates really think….not sure what I think about the clashing between them all….
Totally agree. We should be going after trump, not VP Biden who has actually contributed to making our country work for so many who've been left out of the picture. Joe is not a racist and any remarks that take the easy shot at him b/c he's been around for a while are dishonest.
I was disappointed with Kamala about her attack on Joe concerning bussing. I had envisioned a Biden/Harris ticket. She is shattering my dream team. I still like her though.
I’ve had 3 top contenders in mind since the beginning: Biden, Harris, Castro. Alternate donating to all 3. I’ve “broken up” with Kamala tonight but may be able to get back with her at some point – not sure – because Biden/Harris was my dream team, too. And I know one thing about politics: just suppose Biden wins the nomination; he might very well choose Harris as his VP running mate.
OTOH, I marvel at Kamala’s thinking that bringing up many-decades-old votes of Biden’s is a smart thing … she has forgotten that we still remember he won the trust of President Obama and served as his Vice President for 8 years They were self-identified “brothers,” closer than friends, and their families were and are close. From Kamala’s perspective, does that make President Obama a poor judge of character? I think not. I think she made a big mistake tonight.
My understanding is it was his comments on how he was able to work with segregationalists and mentioned 2 who were pushing segregation that hurt her and made her confront him about that and own that what he said was hurtful. She clearly has a childhood memory of being bussed and I did not feel she was being disrespectful but speaking from a place of pain. It may end up helping Biden watch his words because I was not happy about what he said at that time. That’s how I saw it.
You all know how much I adore Obama, but I think Joe Biden is making a mistake to talk in these terms of “bipartisanship” “I can work with anyone”, when you have Mitch McConnell in Senate. I did think Biden’s push back against Chuck Todd’s assumption that Obama did nothing on Climate change.
How the hell is him talking about working with two segregation Senators hurt her. Hey the two Senators he was talking about were Democrats, meaning there was a time when most of the party she is in now were racist bigots. It was an opportunity for her to attack the guy who is ahead, he’s ahead with black people and this is her change to try and change that.
Everyone else on that stage can go home. Kamala Harris did not come to play and she has shown she would ETHER Trump. Straight up EVISCERATE him.#DemDebatepic.twitter.com/66ILBccB1b
I did “enjoy” this debate. Bernie couldn’t go lower in my estimate but he did. Really, really can’t stand that self centered egotistical man. Kamala really stood out. Gillibrand went further down to me. Still like Julian too. Joe is still in the running. Still have lots of time to go after Trump. Those who are on the low I end need to quit.
I am NOT a Gillibrand fan, but wondering what about her performance made her go down for you. Seems like she was inserting herself and getting her talking points in when others were not. Chuck let her talk out of turn. I did not like Kamala going after Biden. I am a Kamala fan too.
I gues it wasn’t just one thing about Gillibrand, it was it all together, she didn’t impress me. Truthfully I’m still upset with her over Franken. She hasn’t won me over at all.
Keep it together folks. Don’t go tribal, let it play out. The LAST thing I want is another OLD WHITE MAN. BUT? I’ll VOTE as hard as I can for Bernie or Joe if that’s our nominee. (Maybe with my sad, coulda been feellin’)
JOB #1 AN ONLY JOB: WE MUST GET RID OF THE CRIMINAL SCUMBAG
I thought this was perfect. Long past time to say this out loud.
Pete Buttigieg calling out Republicans for using a fake version of Christianity to justify their anti-Christian odiousness has been such a long time coming. BRAVO! #DemDebate2
Watching Kamala verbally enforce her will and put Chuck Todd in timeout is a borderline religious experience. Shutting up that cuckolded woodchuck triggers something akin to a merger with the infiniteness of the universe. A transcending of space and time.

Former NBC exec and debate producer @DeanLuk summed up Thursday's debate in 14 words: "Eric Swalwell asked Joe Biden to pass the torch. Kamala Harris just took it." https://t.co/grYOGdycfM
This is going to be a very interesting race on the part of the Democrats. I think as time goes by Joe Biden will show why President Obama chose him as his VP, also I think the Kamala Harris will prove that she can become President and I also think that Elizabeth Warren has a good shot. I want my candidate to inspire me, I don’t want to feel like I’m just voting for the last person standing. Interesting times ahead.
We must stop saying Southern states are red states. They are voter suppression, racially gerrymandered states where the demographics now provide a path to change if we build a movement & mobilize. If this wasn’t true extremists wouldn’t be fighting & cheating so hard.

Snuggle bunnies at the G20:
“”When asked whether he’d tell Russia not to meddle in the 2020 election,
Trump smugly responded, “Of course I will.”
He then turned to Putin and said jokingly, “Don’t meddle in the election, please. Don’t meddle in the election.”
He wagged his finger in a scolding manner. Putin responded by grinning.
“10 to 20 journalists are murdered in Russia each year.”
“Putin and Trump also bonded over their mutual hatred of the media on Friday.
“Get rid of them,” Trump said, referring to the press. “Fake news is a great term, isn’t it? You don’t have this problem in Russia, but we do.”
“We also have,” Putin replied. “It’s the same.”

You either adapt or you get run over, I like Joe I really do. But he is fighting a battle that he shouldn’t have to fight in terms of trying to explain himself when it comes to issues of race, maybe he might have to go to Philadelphia and give a speech on race like Barack did. Kamala Harris is going to keep coming, maybe not specifically at Joe, but she’s going to keep attacking the issues that Democrats care about. I can vote for Joe just as easily as I can vote for Kamala or Warren or whomever. One thing I’ve noticed about both Harris and Warren is that they will fight anytime and anyplace.
Kamala showed how she can and will prosecute Trump! Though am not a fan of the plan she executed.
VP Biden’s remarkable career in the Senate started early in life and we all (hopefully) update how we respond and change along the way, so yes he could’ve conceded to that last night. Kamala’s attack may have surprised and disappointed him. Joe has earned a leisurely back seat, so when he rises to lead the fight against proto-fascist Trump, he has my utter esteem. My guess is VP Biden is all praise, and reassured to know that Kamala is such a fearless kickarse woman.
Vladimir Putin didn't just attack American elections. It was an attack on the entire United States meant to undermine our democracy and national security. Seeing President Trump joke with Putin about this shows where the loyalties of the President of the United States really lie.
the gerrymandering and voter suppression by the GOP and now with a huge hand on the scale from SCOTUS…
of course McConnell is not interested in shoreing up and protecting our elections…for him it is POWER…and MONEY…he does not care about Democracy…
#WeTHEPEOPLE…have to understand ithis…
There was a time that States Rights was used by the RW to deny the rights of the sons and daughters of enslaved people…and others…now it will be on US to use State’s Rights to ensure our democracy…
I’ve listen to all the hoopla over Harris last night, few weeks ago it was all about Mayor Pete, next week who will it be? As I said I’m still with old Joe .
I understood what Booker was trying to say, I also don’t believe that Joe is a racist. Joe has been around the block to many times to let himself get caught up in a issue about race, but sometimes with Joe he speaks with his heart instead of his head. And being a good politician, which he is, you have to always measure what comes out of your mouth.
The hoopla is more on MSM. Voters are more “wait & listen”. At least in my neck of woods. Two hours per debate over 2 days & 20 contenders showed the complexity of America. I’m glad to see this, especially since there’s still over half year to primaries. Not a sprint, but a marathon all the way to Nov 2020. May the very best Dem win then. ❤
I know how the media is, Harris is their darling of the hour right now. Like she was when she first announced. Don’t anyone get me wrong if she is the Democratic nominee you bet I will support her. We can not take four more years of that lying racist moron in the White House now, I just do not like to see our own tearing each other down. We need someone who can put together 270 electoral college votes across this country. So now the Dems thing is not black verses white, it’s old verses young.
None of them should take anything for granted. I just don’t want them to damage each other in the process so that we end up w/ 45moron again. So far so good.
I too felt disappointed in Eric Swalwell, and Kamala Harris last night in attacking Joe Biden. I want each to say what they stand for and not damage each other for the General Election run. My dream team WAS Biden/Harris which may now not work. My main goal is beat Trump.
1. Donald Trump won the GOP primary and the presidency because campaigning on whiteness-first messaging still has potency in the 21st century. Plenty of people don’t want to directly engage with this fact, but this thread will be getting into it in full.
I would add that the media has not done enough (much of anything) to amplify these facts to the people in a way that makes it crystal clear what is happening to our democracy under this fraud. They have, for the most part, failed to inform the public in a serious way.
All the biggest Trump scandals are concentrated into this week. His administration is torturing children. He's credibly accused of rape. He's joking with Putin about murdering journalists. And our political system has lost the capacity to respond.
— Michelle Goldberg (@michelleinbklyn) June 28, 2019
not the capacity but the WILL…to respond….but this did not start with the TRUMP administration…..i seem to remember Pres Obama warning all of us that "Democracy" was on the ballot,,,and now there is SCOTUS,,,throwing in with Trump and the enablers in Congress.. https://t.co/6xvvFRLHXM

I don't know if other Black women feel this way today but seeing @KamalaHarris THAT self-assured on a stage at a presidential debate is having a deep impact on me.

So…. Democracy Corps data shows Biden’s favorability with African American voters went up a net 18% after last nights debate, while Mayor Pete’s went down 10%. Stan Greenberg chalked a lot of it up to defensiveness over the perception that the Obama-Biden legacy was under attack
Exactly
I just saw the Paul Manafort photo and he looks like what the kids would say a “hot mess.” And what is going on with his hair?

Good Morning, TODbots. I don’t believe that I have splet one iota since the debate aired.

Yes it is; a very complex reading on the issue of race. I found it very interesting and informative and thought-provoking.
