    It has been an exhausting week and it’s only Wednesday! My students are testing so we are on a block schedule for the next week and a half. This means 2 hour classes. I have had very challenging students with up to 37 kids in 4 out of my 6 classes, and only have lunch as I teach all 6 periods and don’t have a prep (my choice to teach 6). I’m currently teaching the Civil War. I love my job but yesterday was particularly challenging as the students just were fed up. They’re in 8th grade so they’re done and want to move onto high school. I came home so exhausted that I sat down and fell asleep, woke up to watch HRC being interviewed and fell asleep again during her interview. Now, I woke up at 5am and couldn’t get back to sleep b/c of all the news of what’s going on and I just can’t help but feel despair about how ruthless the Republicans are at supporting Trump, now Trump’s attempts at getting rid of the ACA altogether, the rampant lying on the part of Barr; the seemingly slow pace of the Democrats in the House, dragging their feet on dealing with these non-compliant responses to subpoenas. I desparately want to trust them, but am so very worried that we’ll lose our chance of even winning the 2020 election due to this cautious approach. I am betwixt and between and all in a kerfuffle. Thanks for reading this. Sorry 😦

      Betsy, I just wrote you a longer response that got chewed up by WordPress. So let me just say, we hear you and fully understand. These are some very dark days. But we’ll get through it together as long as we support one another and work hard to sweep these traitors out of DC. I hope you get a break soon so you can get some good rest. Please take good care.

        Betsy, I so get it and even though I’m not teaching/dealing with the stress of that, on everything else you said I am right there with you. Besides all the crap going on in DC, the state of TN and it’s governor and legislature have gone batshit crazy. Awful bills being passed, banana republic tactics. Awful, just awful.

        We have got to try to be strong and keep fighting and have HOPE.

      Hang in there, Betsy! I echo what meta said…we’ll get through this together. It’s hard now, but it’s my dream that people are beginning to see who the real threat to American values and institutions are now. Hard to miss who the traitors are.

    • May 2, 2019 at 10:51 am

      Betsy thanks for this. Hey you got some shut-eye though! Yes Barr is irritating with his dumb insolence and eff you put-upon attitude.
      At the same time his tells are so obvious they’d insult your cat! Not getting away with it. Please don’t miss Neal Katyal on O’Donnell last night…Barr will lose, Mueller will testify, the truth will out. Barr/Trump openly obstructing, and abusing the job of America’s AG to save the crime family. So Nadler will dish out a contempt citation if Barr doesn’t respond to a subpoena. Barr avoiding questions more than 5 minutes long so avoiding the House hearing. Barr is willing to take the fall for his crime boss… and imo take it he will.
      -After seeing a clip of Mazie Hirono dishing it out, I want to see more!
      -Hillary last night…wow.

      Barr’s suicide bombing and gross disrespect….imo:
      1) The goal is to make America dysfunctional and hand it over to Putin.
      2) The key is to weaken/destroy long respected forms of government.
      Barr approached his hearing yesterday as if a meaningless spectacle. We were forced to spectate while he huffed and puffed for the cameras and lied utterly transparently. Barr has shown us everything he has to offer (lock him up). We’re done playing the victim.

    Across the world, young people continue to lead the movements for change on various issues;

    Within some parts of Africa, young people are leading the movements to end the power of dictators who have destroyed countries and have held power for a very long time;

    The power change in Sudan did not get as much US media coverage as it should have.

    But in much of Africa, people are taking note. Uganda shares its northern border with Southern Sudan. Uganda’s leader and the former dictator of Sudan are friends. So Ugandans are very interested in the events in Sudan and see a potential path for pushing their own change.

    In Uganda, a 37 year old Member of Parliament and social justice musician (Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine) is leading the most popular movement to end the 33 year old grip on power by dictator (Museveni).

    the government has been shaken by the grassroots response that Bobi Wine has generated – especially among youth and the people at the margins of society.

    as any panicked government tends to do, they are taking actions against him that are making him even more popular even within the ruling power structure. panicked, the government is making rookie political mistakes;

    Bobi wine was arrested again on Friday and put in the Uganda’s notorious and strongest maximum prison.

    today they presented him in court and below is the speech he gave.

    if the time comes and news breaks about a change in power in Uganda, Bobi Wine will most probably be at the center and agitator who led to the change.

    remember these names Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine

    Senator Mazie Hirono yesterday:
    “Mr. Barr, now the American people know that you are no different from Rudy Giuliani or Kellyanne Conway or any of the other people who sacrifice their once decent reputation for the liar and grifter who sits in the Oval Office….
    You’ve chosen to be the president’s lawyer and side with him over the interest of the American people…
    To start with, you should never have been involved in supervising the Robert Mueller investigation. You wrote a 19-page unsolicited memo, which you admit was not based on any facts, attacking the premise of half of the investigation. And you also should have insisted that Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein recuse himself. He wasn’t just a witness to some of the president’s obstructive behavior; we now know he was in frequent personal contact with the president, a subject of the investigation. You should have left it to career officials.
    Then once the report was delivered by the special counsel, you delayed its release for more than two weeks and let the president’s personal lawyers look at it before you even deigned to let Congress or the public see it. During the time, you substituted your own political judgment for the special counsel legal conclusions and in a four-page letter to Congress — and now we know, thanks to a free press, that Mr. Mueller wrote you a letter objecting to your so-called summary.”

    • May 2, 2019 at 1:37 pm

      Sen. Hirono: “When you called Mueller to discuss his letter, the reports are that he thought your summary was giving the press, Congress, and the public a misleading impression of his work. He asked you to release the report summaries to correct the misimpression you created, but you refused. When you finally did decide to release the report, over a congressional recess and on the eve of two major religious holidays, you called a press conference to once again try to clear Donald Trump before anyone had a chance to read the special counsel report and come to their own conclusions.”

    • May 2, 2019 at 1:38 pm

      Senator Hirono: “But when we read the report, we knew Robert Mueller’s concerns were valid and that your version of events was false. You used every advantage of your office to create the impression that the president was cleared of misconduct. You selectively quoted fragments from the special counsel report, taking some of the most important statements out of context and ignoring the rest. You put the power and authority of the office of the attorney general and the Department of Justice behind a public relations effort to help Donald Trump protect himself.”

    • May 2, 2019 at 1:39 pm

      Sen. Hirono: “Finally, you lied to Congress. You told Rep. Charlie Crist that you didn’t know what objections Mueller’s team might have to the March 24 so-called summary. You told Sen. Chris Van Hollen you didn’t know if Robert Mueller supported your conclusions — but you knew you lied, and now we know. A lot of officials were surprised by your efforts to protect [the president], but I was unsurprised. You did exactly what I thought you would do. It is why I voted against your confirmation….
      From the beginning, you were addressing an audience of one, that person being Donald Trump….
      But now we know more about your deep involvement and trying to cover up for Donald Trump. Being attorney general of the United States is a sacred trust. You have betrayed that trust. America deserves better. You should resign.”
      –this is most of what Mazie Hirono said before questioning consigliere Barr.

      I have wondered if that could have happened given what Trump had been saying, Rosenstein’s change of attitude and Barr’s beliefs. I thought maybe Mueller was ordered to end his probe. I also cringe when I hear good job numbers and Repubs sounding sane referring to Barr’s testimony on NPR. I do NOT want Trump to be re-elected no matter what.

      For those interested in commemorating the National Day of Prayer, this iconic photograph is one of the ways we should mark it each year, not the way the devil’s helper in the White House did today, making a mockery of other people’s faiths by claiming he’s a decent human who’s a believer. He isn’t.

      Washing my brain from that statement, here’s more of Dr. King’s quote – this was added on another King Center post, which used the same image. Of course, everything he ever said gives us hope, despite the circumstances we as individuals find ourselves in, as part of the human family.

      “God grant that the resources that you have will be used to do that, the great resources of education, the resources of wealth, and that we will be able to move into this new world, a world in which men [people] will live together as brothers [a human family]; a world in which men [people] will no longer take necessities from the masses to give luxuries to the classes. A world in which men [people] will throw down the sword and live by the higher principle of love. The time when we shall be able to emerge from the bleak and desolate midnight of man’s inhumanity to man into the bright and glittering daylight of freedom and justice.”

      ~Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

      I read it online and every time I stopped, the next time I started again I had to scroll to the right place. That could have been my own fault due to lack of technical knowledge, or because I read it on my iPad or just because that is the way you have to do it. Paper book marks and the ability to turn back and forth to the appendix to verify acronyms and name descriptions is easier with paper.

    I keep thinking about the story of how FBI Director Comey and Special Counsel Mueller rushed to the hospital & had a face-off with the Secret Service as bush’s aides tried to get a barely conscious ashcroft to sign illegal documents. Here’s wishing that the person who took such actions can stand up for the Constitution again and put an abrupt stop to the arrogant and abusive law-breaking we are experiencing day-to-day. Who in the DOJ has the courage to protect that department & all the rule of law??
